I needed a battery for my car key immediately and I found the closest place on yelp. I asked the guy if he replaces car key batteries and he said yes and that he charges $20. I was kind of surprised because if I remembered correctly, I had only paid five dollars the last time I had to replace the battery. But I needed it done right away so I told him to go ahead. It took him a minute to replace and it worked. But when I got home, out of curiosity I did a search on Google for the price of the batteries. It said they sold between three dollars and six dollars ,so, If you want to get ripped off, go there. But in reality, he told me the price and I knowingly accepted it anyway so I only have myself to blame. read more

I want to give a shout-out to Elie's Lock and Key. I have a 1973 SAAB Sonett III that I bought with out any keys. I tried picking the door locks myself and had 2 other locksmiths that gave-up try to pick the door lock. Elie's Lock and Key, with much frustration (I assume), was able to contact other locksmiths to determine how to break the ASSA locks. The ASSA locks are not meant to be picked, but he did it. If you need keys, in the Chatsworth area, please give them a try. Next month, I hope to give him the ignition switch, to try and decipher the keying. My indoor door from the garage to the house jammed over the weekend and I could not get into my house through the garage. This has been intermittently happening over the past few months and I tried to fix it with WD-40 but this time it just jammed for good. I called this company because they were local to me. I called them at 9 AM in the morning and Arthur came out by noon. He was able quickly see the issue which involved installing a new internal lock piece (not sure what it's called). Support local businesses! When it comes to home security, relying on lock advice from a former online bookstore is not good idea. They carry inferior or paid-for-promotional products, especially their "Choice" brands that can be picked in seconds. I came here looking for a very specific deadbolt, B560, that those in the industry know is a better choice under $100. Even the big box hardware shops do not carry this except through delivery. A great one stop shop. Called the shop before I stopped by, they picked up right away and had appropriate answers to all my questions. I needed a mailbox key and a garage key made and almost all the big name hardware stores said they don't do those kinds of keys.. Elie's basically said over the phone that they need to see the key first and then they will know if they have that blank in stock or not. I went in with my two keys. They took a look and made replicas of each. The garage key is old fashioned, from a Chicago company, Elie's charged 7.95 for that little guy before tax. The mailbox key was 3.95. I thought the prices were on the higher side, however it was all worth it. They had what I needed, made the keys on the spot and I was out of there in under ten minutes. Parking is plentiful, but it's a little annoying that the San Carlo patrons like to literally just stop and park on the side even though there are plenty of open parking spaces just steps away from the shop. Elie's also does home lock stuff, they have a mobile operation and can drive to you wherever you need to be serviced, they also take care of cars too. THESE GUYS ARE CROOKS.They give you false information in order to up charge you. I needed to make an extra set of car keys. I brought in my car key along with a genuine certified blank I bought from a dealer. The employee asked me where I got it and told him the internet. He told me he will cut it but not guarantee that it will work but won't offer me a refund. He also wanted to charge me $35.00 to cut. In order guarantee it would work I would have to buy the blank from him for another $25.00 GUESS WHAT. I went to another locksmith down the street and he cut the key for $10.00 and it works. Very bad customer service way over priced the gentlemen did this to me twice and yes I was the sucker because I was in a hurry. First time he told me this was a special key it would be $7.00 for my deadbolt standard key. Next time I went in it was for my door key he told me it would be a special cut and would cost me $6.00 lol so I took the key back went to true valley hardware in Granada hills and got the key cut for a $1.50 and the other was .99 cents.
