Yes, the food is good/decent (though I'm not a fan of the curry chicken), but the ambiance is not. We went on a federal holiday when the restaurant wasn't busy at all, and the service was crappy. Note: There's no table service! You order your food at the counter, which honestly looks really grubby. The employees also aren't friendly and seemed not to care about providing good service to customers at all. We waited way too long to place our order and pay for it, considering how empty the place was. I'd recommend NuVegan Cafe over this place any day. read more

I'm not a vegan and I don't eat vegan food regularly. I have had some really delicious vegan soul food from a spot in Baltimore and a spot in College Park. I've also had catered vegan food at a few different functions. With that being said, I have a fair understanding of vegan that is tasty and recognize that there can be some textural differences with a vegan version of a staple dish. When I came here, there was a long line so I was expecting some really delicious food. I tasted the jerk "chicken," mac n cheese (soy), cabbage, BBQ "ribs," and greens and was not blown away by any of it. The flavors of the "jerk" and "BBQ" reminded me of something from a Chinese food carryout and didn't taste like jerk or BBQ at all. The mac n cheese was also very watery. The saving grace was the dessert - I tried some carrot cake and chocolate cake. They were both good, although a little too sweet. I am happy that this place is here to give the community a healthier alternative for soul food, but I wont be returning. read more

This is by far the WORST vegan restaurant I've been to in the DMV area. The customer service was ok but the rules are HORRIBLE. I've been here multiple times because I support Moms/Pops types of businesses. I've always had issues here and I will not be supporting them anymore. On one occasion I ordered a three (3) side order platter. I wanted brussels sprouts and two (2) sides of vegan "mac-n-cheese", I was told that I could not have two (2) side orders of mac-n-cheese and they will have to charge me for an entrée with one side (At this point, I'm confused). Mind you the only two (2) available sides at that moment was only brussels sprouts and mac-n-cheese. The older gentlemen (the owner) acted as if he didn't care that he did not have any other sides available. In addition, you can not order cold and hot sides on the same platter, the side's platter have to be all hot sides or all cold sides (this alone is a turn off). Another occasion, I order a vegan chicken sandwich (Which had very dry chicken with stale bread that cut the inside of my throat, literally) and a side of vegan mac-n-cheese. Again, they told me I could not order a side of vegan mac-n-cheese with a sandwich. At this point I was floored and over this restaurant! I thought you guys wanted to make money not lose it. P.S. I will drive the extra 10 minutes from home to go to NuVegan Café (Very similar food, more options and no rules on how you can order/eat your food), HipCityVeg (Best vegan chicken sandwich in DC), and Evolve Vegan Restaurant. Considering the limited vegan dine-in/take-out options in this county this one is an excellent choice. The desserts are just fair but for meal choice there is a nice variety of flavorful choices. The soy mac and cheese is closest to the tradition Soul style but the cashew mac and cheese has a nice flavor. There are a variety of entree options from day to day. I love the spinach quiche! There is a vegan burrito bowl and a nice selection of cold bar items too. It's nice to have them around. read more

My husband and I were in DC for VegFest. We live in PA, but we love DC and visit regularly. As vegans we love all the options DC offers us that Central PA doesn't. We've heard the Everlasting Life name quite a bit and have been looking forward to trying it. Perhaps some of the reviews we've heard might have been about the Everlasting Life Cafe which is different (I understand they used to have the same owner but no longer do and the Cafe is changing their name to Woodland's Vegan Bistro to avoid confusion). We decided to try them out today for brunch. It was definitely out of our way. Unfortunately we were pretty disappointed in the experience. We arrived around 10:45. Since they are supposed to open at 10 you'd certainly think things would have been up and running by then but no, not so. We were actually directed to come back in 10 or 15 minutes. It was pretty confusing, you're directed to go in the door that leads to an unwelcoming dining room but there are no staff there, no one to offer you a table or take your order so it's really not a "restaurant" in my opinion. Instead you end up going into the other area where there is a hot bar and a cash register. Had I gone in through the other door, that's where I would have been in the first place, so why they direct people in the other way I just don't know??? The menu was confusing. I wasn't quite sure what went with what, and quite frankly neither was the girl at the register. We decided on the Brunch Platter, and I got a side of banana pancakes. Back to the "dining room" to wait. And wait. And wait. About 30 minutes later our food finally arrived. Now a tofu scramble with vegan sausage is something I could whip up at home myself in 20 minutes. Why it would take longer in a restaurant that might be expecting customers is beyond me. The pancakes? Meh. They were just ok. The brunch platter was great. The tofu and the sausage were fantastic. Overall, I did enjoy the food. Will I bother to go back again? Very, very unlikely. The service and the atmosphere were so bad that even the food really couldn't make up for it. They really need to step it up or this place isn't going to stay around. On a Sunday morning at 11 am there were 5 poeple in the dining room (that includes myself and my husband) so I suspect other people might have already given up on them. I'm really pretty bummed that this went so badly because I really wanted to like this place. read more

Hmmm hesitant to write review but I am inclined to share. My experience over the years has gotten worse. I haven't not been in a few years and forgot why. When I walked in I remembered all the reasons I don't come here. Location is not the easiest to get to. The wait can be long. The selection is great, but the prices.....geez are you serving me at my seat. Standing in line I knew what I wanted, but once asked I ended up walking out with a $5 drink. An oasis in the desert! Everlasting Life was a welcome find in a neighborhood dominated only by a series of sporadic clusters of fast food joints. Whenever I'm in the area, I make it point to drop by...I haven't had a bad dish. My favorites are the mac & cheese, macaroni salad, curried tofu salad, greens and spinach salad - they have all been well spiced, well seasoned and fresh. I'm not a vegetarian let alone a vegan but the simple truth of Everlasting Life is that they make really tasty dishes. Please remember that just because they're vegan, it does not automatically mean healthy! The portions are huge, and many of the dishes are high carb as well as a bit salty. Also, they will not mix hot and cold items in a single container even if you are planning to eat them in house so if you want both hot and cold dishes get the individual containers. read more

I normally love the food and service. On 10/01/17 I arrived at 10:04am. They open at 10am. The doors were locked. There were 4 women that clearly saw me and said absolutely nothing to me. I stood there until 10:10am. Once inside no one mentioned I was outside or apologized. I asked for a waffle...the guy that makes the waffles was running late . I sat in my car until 10:30. I saw the owner pull up. I went back inside. He took my order and guess what...I didn't get my waffle until 11am. The only reason I waited is because I'm detoxing and I can't have dairy. read more

When I showed up, there were three people on staff, and apparently the "pancake guy" wasn't there yet. This restaurant opens at 10am, and serves brunch Once a week, and yet I have to wait until 10:40 for some goddamn pancakes? Is he Gordon Ramsey? Come on dude. How does the OWNER of a restaurant not know how to make a pancake? Brunch is for a limited time and yet once again, I have to wait an hour more, out of what is probably 3 hours, to give them my money for in all honesty 'okay' food. I frequent the Vegan Restaurants in College Park and on Georgia Avenue and ABSOLUTELY LOVE! The ambiance, cleanliness, food, and customer service. I googled this restaurant finding that the location was quite close to my home. When I walked in I was kind of hesitant because of the upkeep of the restaurant. Also, the presentation of the food was not that eye-catching but I figured what the heck, I couldn't go to wrong with Mac and greens. Needless to say, I should've went with my first instinct... I ordered a platter for myself and my son to discover that there was a HUMONGOUS! Beetle in my child's greens. How disgusting! Considering the price that you pay for quality you would think that place wouldn't be so nasty! I will be contacting Management in reference to this. Also, I will never ever be returning. Great food, great help, generous servings. This is apparently an all vegan restaurant. I read other reviews but was skeptical about how you can get delicious soul food without meat butter or cheese. I'm glad I tried it. I had the barbecue tofu entree with green beans, and mac&cheese sides. I couldn't eat it all in one setting, but saved the leftovers and am finishing it up now, a couple of hours later. The meal was about $11 and well worth it. They were a little crowded mid-afternoon on a Sunday, but the line moved well and smiling faces made the short wait seem even shorter. I'm just visiting the area, but I'll be back to Everlasting Life next time. The restaurant is located in a shopping center that's seen better days, but parking was easy. There are a few tables inside and out for dine-in, but I took mine to go. All the stars! Highly recommend! read more

The service has improved tremendously. The last 3 visits, people were ready to assist as soon as I walked in AND with a smile nontheless! They repainted a portion of the store and it looks brighter and 'fresh.' I can honestly say that my last 3 trips have been a joy. Keep it up (and continue with the other improvements!) A friend took me for vegan Sunday brunch here and it was wonderful. I'm not a vegan & had my doubts, but the vegan waffle with whipped cream and fruit was yummy, and my friend had the brunch with the faux eggs & sausage, etc. Nice family atmosphere, tablecloths, real nice. Who knew there was everlasting life on Central Avenue? it's easy to get to (just off the beltway, Central Avenue West, first strip mall on the left), parking is plentiful and free, the mall also has a Bally's and a Home Depot, so you can work out, buy stuff for the house and eat healthily, all at one place. My one quibble is that the wait staff wasn't as attentive as you might want, but once you got their attention, they were very nice. read more

Just be sure to read the labels to make sure you're not eating items with sugar in them if doing the Daniel fast.
