Fried Whiting with 2 Sides
Jerran N.

I really wanted to love this place but I expected more. We placed our order and waited about 45 minutes for food. I've heard of long wait times but I didn't expect 45 minutes. I ordered the Fried Whiting with Mac & Cheese and Greens. I also ordered a side of sweet potatoes. I originally asked for the sauce on the side as it was recommended in a previous review from someone else and they put it on anyway. I am not a fan of the sauce. The fish was also cold and wet from the container. I live less than 10 minutes away. The Mac & Cheese has a different taste I wasn't use to. The greens were good. The sweet potatoes came with Pineapple in them which was a shock. Others may love it here but it wasn't for me.

This is my fifth time ordering from Lula Mae's Gardin. The first two times it was spot on and absolutely amazing- I love that they added this cute little flower to the design of the food. To me presentation as well as taste a major factor - if you have one without the other you haven't mastered the package. Even though it's delivery that added touch with the flower elevates the presentation! I've never actually went to the restaurant and I usually order it on Uber eats. Once the food never got delivered - the uber driver said it was taking way to long to pick it up which was a little disappointing because I was ordering for my boyfriend and I wanted to surprise him. However when I have received the orders it is usually seasoned nice and they give great portion sizes. The first time I ordered from here my mind was blown but as of late it's a little hit or miss!

The jerk salmon and Mac and cheese is delicious! I also tried the peach tea and honey bunt cake....so so good! The service was fast and the staff was so nice and appreciative. I felt really welcomed.

Salmon spinach Alfredo

What can I say!! This is my first time ordering and it will not be my last. Unfortunately, I used Uber eats so I can not speak on the interior or staff but I'll definitely be making my way inside very soon. This is what I will be reviewing today: Salmon spinach Alfredo: delicious! I love the rigatoni noodles. The salmon is seasoned perfectly, good portion and just enough sauce. For me, I like a kick so I'll be adding a dash of cayenne but overall, the flavor profile is on target Curry chicken rolls: the curry definitely comes through, as well as a hint of sweetness. Good flavor, nice portion. Would I order again, possibly. I wasn't overly moved, but don't get me wrong, they have a nice flavor. I'm thinking the exterior became soggy in transport and also the rice is throwing me off too. My overall review, I will definitely make this a staple spot and try more menu items. I'm excited to have a variety of food options in my immediate area. Driving outside of the county is fine, but local is much better.

I love everything about this place Ive tried a lot also since I've gotten catering before. It's a small business here luckily but it's worth an expansion. I love the crab cakes seafood Mac meatballs Thai chillin wings lemon pepper wings and the crab rolls greens n seafood salad I haven't tried anything that I didn't like. From now on I will shine the light on this restaurant when someone asks for me a suggestion

Peach Lemoande Crack Tea!! WINNERRRRRRRR!!!
Kae M.

Ahhh ha!! I snapped a pic of those (rubs hands) crab egg rolls. Yessssaaaarr!! They are a winner! The GREENS?!? No, y'all didn't hear me...the greens!! Grandma with the wing arm cooked them. Love them!! The fried chicken was awesome, too! That peach tea?!?! Goodt goodness!! What should I try next?!? The best soul food in the DMV.

Jerk Salmon

I went in hard on supporting this business my Uber eats total was a bit expensive. I ordered 2 of the Jerk Salmon and a few other things. The quality of food was just okay. I wasn't blown away just a little satisfied since I was running on a hungry stomach. My friend and I thought the Jerk salmon was a bit disappointing. I would consider the portion sizes good for a lunch time meal. There is room for improvement as this company grows. I'm willing to try other dishes occasionally.

Thai Lamb chops, smoked mac, crispy brussels sprouts! I'll be dreaming about Those chops and sprouts - yum
Akande S.

I know, I know. It hasn't even been a week and I'm back! Had to have those lamb chops and brussels sprouts again. They were calling my name! BUT as I was perusing the menu, I noticed they had fish tacos fir under $10. I've never had fish tacos mainly because they always come with a mango salsa (that's a no for me) and the fish isn't usually one of my favs BUT this was whiting (safe mild fish) and came with a cucumber slaw. So glad I added them to the order as they were delicious. Whiting well seasoned and the batter (they were fried) held up to the slaw / wet ingredients. The slaw was a balance of crisp sweetness and refreshing tang. I'd def order again. As always, the portions are nice so I didn't get to my lamb chops and brussels tonight (yummy lunch for tomorrow). Going to finish adding bourbon to my tea -y'all check them out.

The BEST. I went three times over two days, it was so good. Forget going to any other takeout place. They have it all in the blue truck! I've tried mostly everything on the menu. Curry egg rolls, jerk mac and cheese, fried fish, crab cake, Alfredo, and all the sides. Everything is AMAZE! And you even get a pretty blue flower with every entree. Use their online ordering to order ahead or just pull up. Don't forget the crack ice tea!

From the out side it look dark and dreary but inside its bright and airy. Very approps to the DC vibe. You'll be greated and seated with that DC flair. The Market went viral so they were short on Lobster meat. Delivery is daily and we got there too early. So we settled on some Salmon Jerk Thai fried rice and Crab Eggrolls. The flavor explosion was massive. The Salmon was thoughly cooked and moist with great flavor. The rice exquisitely seasoned. It was really really good but not Thai flavored. Its not spicey nor was there that lime that Thai food has. Yet, it was delicious non the less. The Eggrolls were bomb. Fully creamy with a great chrisp. I know creamy is weird right? It's totally worked. Theres an electric lemonade and watermelon drink special that's vibrant and delicious. It sets the mood of the evening. Its definitely worth a try. I mean DC sea food scene needed a little invigorating, right!

Also I just had to check it out since I was surprised by an upper mid seafood concept spot "way out here" in Brightwood/ KDY. The salmon bites were tasty, but not memorable. I do wanna come back and try their catfish and or whiting sandwiches. Overall, A for effort. I think the vision is admirable, if not really brave trying to make a living from an upper-mid level takeout seafood spot in a slower residential neighborhood, somewhat far from the high foot traffic parts of town. I hope they're wildly successful.

I went to Atxondo hoping to taste the work of a Basque chef, and found out that the new chef is…read morefrom El Salvador, but has studied cookery in Spain. After having a full meal with cocktails, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee (about $70 per person), I concluded that Atxondo will be a definite future destination for Happy Hour and light bites, but that my full meal dining dollars will be spent elsewhere. The Patatas Bravas (Fingerling Potatoes) were outstanding, with their two tasty sauces and rich, crispy flavor and texture. The Hibiscus Margarita with its salt and tajín rim was good enough to warrant a second one... but the Sangria was lackluster due to the complete absence of cut-up fresh fruit in my glass. The "Crispy Duck Breast" is no longer served whole, but sliced on a bed of sauteed kale... and, sadly, seemed to be only a shadow of its former self. The Lamb Meatballs suffered from being mushy (a coarser grind would have made a world of difference in the texture) and lacked that meaty exuberance one treasures in any kind of meatball. My serving of Basque Cheesecake was almost comically tiny (at $9 per serving, perhaps not so funny after all). But my cup of Americano came out of the espresso machine strapping strong and piping hot, with a gorgeous head of natural crema from the oil of the coffee beans. So I will definitely return for a future Happy Hour to devour the outstanding Patatas Bravas and sip the good Margaritas, and to try the bargain Manchego Burger and other Happy Hour bites. For serious dining, Atxondo falls short of the mark... but for drinks and bar food, Atxondo turns out to be a real neighborhood gem. .

Atxondo really strikes me as an underrated gem. It's only about a mile walk from the Petworth Metro, is right on several bus lines and for us, coming from silver spring, the drive was a very easy ~15 minutes. Intrigued to hear how often people in the neighborhood come here. It's mostly a tapas style, so everything but the paella is smaller plates. Everything is wonderfully tasty. The mini chorizo, with the accompanying chips absorbing the chorizo liquid were awesome and our group also loved the cremini mushrooms. I love a good paella and Atxondo's is a standout. really wonderfull flavored and plenty for our group of 5. They say it's enough for 2-4, but unless its your only meal of the day, I fully think a group of 2 would have leftovers. It's definitely on our list to return

Dinner at San Matteo, yes please and thank you!…read more Good food and service was memorable adding San Matteo to the list of favorites. The front patio is cute and a nice spot to sit on a nice day. We entered the restaurant, pasted the bar and made our way to the back. We were pleasantly surprised with a nice outdoor feeling to dine at. We were immediately greeted by our waiter, given water and warm bread with olive oil. To kick off our meal everyone had different ideas of what they were craving so we went with three starters. PROSCIUTTO E MOZZARELLA for one. It that had the usual meat and cheese board with nuts, mini bread crackers and jam. I liked how pistachio pieces were found in the meats and cheese. [5/5] BEEF CARPACCIO which is a family favorite of ours was a must try. The tender slices of beef with arugula, with sliced capers and celery. It reminded us of our trips to Italy. [5/5] FRITTO MISTO came next. This mixed lite battered bowl of seafood goodness with a little spice delight. It had calamari, fish, shrimp, garlic, zucchini and chilies. I really liked how the batter was lite which says a lot because I love really crispy anything. [ 5/5] On to the main courses, we proceeded with different pasta noodle dishes. BUCATINI BOLOGNESE one of my favorite pasta noodles was my selection. The noodles were al dente and the sauce and meat were excellent. [5/5] PAPPARDELLE CINGHIALE was my husband's pick. The pappardelle noodles were al dente and nicely accompanied the meat with the tasty sauce. Topped with ricotta; the dish was full of flavor. [5/5] CHICKEN ALFREDO was the last pick. Not an authentic Italian dish; however, hats off to the chef for making this for our picky eater in the family. The sauce was creamy and delicious. Noodles were cooked perfectly. [5/5] Surprisingly we had just enough room for a sweet ending - an Affogato. Whoaza! The espresso was yummy; put some hair on our picky eater's chest. It had a hint of licorice flavor that was unique. Let's not forget the San Matteo Spritz. Smoky and highly enjoyable. I loved it and will order again when I return. Overall, San Matteo hit all the check boxes for our lovely family dinner. The staff were attentive and never left us wanting more water, food or waiting long. The food was tasty. It seems upscale with a casual feel. Some people were dressed for date night while others were having a casual meal with family or friends. The seating options of areas were all unique in its own way. Front patio for a nice day, from the front indoor dining area for maybe a more intimate feel, bar and table top area for a drink and appetizer going solo or with a friend; and lastly the back dining area for a a bigger group to enjoy your meal. Mixing up the dining options that suits you. I'll be back to try other dishes.
