My parents had a terrible experience at Elim Park. I found the administrative staff including the ceo to be ageist and ableist. Staff discouraged my mother from using a power wheelchair after her stroke inappropriately. read more

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE PLACE. DO NOT LET YOUR LOVED ONE REHAB THERE!!!!! I discharged him home after only one day there. They take better care of their pet ducks and chickens than the patients in inpatient Rehabilitation. I will be filing a complaint with the Health Department. My father is a paraplegic confined to a wheelchair. We told the intake nurse that he could use a bathroom and/or bedpan and that he needed support stockings due to poor circulation. He also had a fungal infection in his groin. We visited him the next day at 1 p.m.. He was sitting in a diaper (which would make his fungal infection WORSE as it needs to air out), his legs were BLUE because of no compression stockings on and he wasn't shaved. My dad was able to tell us that he had buzzed for the nurse and when no one came, he defecated all over himself. The way they fixed it? Throw a diaper on him because it's easier to put a diaper on a partially paralyzed man than to take him to the bathroom. My children had to put on his support stockings and transfer him to the recliner in his room to elevate his legs. They also had to shave him. There were no CNA's to be found. I addressed my concerns with the head charge nurse that evening and she said that they would remove the diaper and that she would get to the bottom of what happened. The next day when we went to take him home, he was again sitting in a diaper. I spoke with the head of the Elim Rehabilitation and he apologized and admitted that they dropped the ball. read more

The nursing home is neglected where as the independent living is show cased. I am disgusted at the care my mother receives and when I talk to the administrator, I get a excuses and false promises. Slim really should take better care of the frailest elderly in their nursing home! read more

The best place ! Can not say how nice and clean this place is. Moving from Whitney manor to Elim park was the best thing that happened to my grandmother this whole trip. Once I talked to Nicole in admission I knew this was the place. The whole team has been great , still here so will let you know more on any tips. read more

Elim Park - Nice rooms ! - Retirement Homes Near Me - Cheshire, Connecticut

Do not go there. Elim Park discharges unstable patients just to get rid of them and sends them home to live alone. The patients then fall within 24 hours of discharge ending up in another facility or the hospital. In addition, patients are not well cared for while there so end up with bed sores that become infected so badly that they require surgery. It is a shame as some staff know what is happening but aren't listened to and other staff are just trying to ship out patients to make their numbers look good. It could be a great facility but they don't care about the patients anymore just the numbers. read more

Avoid at all costs!! We have been looking for a nursing home to recommend for relatives living in the area, and the way by which staff and residents are treated is inexcusable. What I witnessed when visiting recently was poor care to the residents. Your words cannot be to "Honor God in everything we do," while you treat your employees and residents like trash. is out for your money. they get false promises, run them out of money and then stick you in a tiny place after they used all your savings.

As mentioned by another reviewer there is a shocking difference between the residential area and the rehabilitation / convalescence facilities of Elim Park. While it appears the residential is their pride and joy, the convalescence faculties are horrid. My mother had a two week stay at Elim following a joint replacement surgery, and the neglect and unprofessionalism I witnessed was abhorrent. She was not properly fed and lost 30 pounds during her stay, while everyday she was promised a vegetarian meal, the kitchen never followed the plan, at meal times she was informed they never prepared for her what was on the plan, instead she was handed a bouillon cube or a pile of grey green beans. Our family realized they weren't feeding her properly and brought in a stack of frozen dinners for her meals. The neglect continued as these meals were plopped down in front of her still frozen and inedible. Across the hall, a man choked and died while eating his meal. The staff failed to save his life and wheeled him, dead on the bed, through the hall in full sight- uncovered with his mouth hanging open. There was no oxygen on his face to even give the illusion they tried to save his life. If that isn't revolting enough the staff laughed and made jokes "don't choke now okay? haha" in the days following the mans death. I heard the staff openly complain and speak unprofessionally, loudly discuss and complain about patients right outside their doors. I overheard another patient ask to be put on the commode because he was too weak to make it to the bathroom to which the nurse told him "she was tired too" and "on shift since (time) in the morning" and "I'd like to lie around all day like you do" ! One day a folder containing all the patients medical files was carelessly dropped and just laying there scattered in the hall for anyone to see. They ignore the call button and leave the patients without assistance for long periods of time, left to fend for herself days after surgery, weak from no food, my mother injured herself enough to require an X-ray. Another patient complained about a nurses treatment to a superior and we heard that nurse comment "oh yeah she's going to complain about me? let's just see if I come next time she calls", that she was going to 'give' her something to complain about. For three days my mother complained about pain deep in the back of her calf and the nurses did not care enough to ensure it was not a life threatening blood clot, they said they "assumed it was pain from the surgery", which given the location of the pain makes no sense. We had to force them to order an ultrasound, than waited another full day for the ultrasound tech to show. Confined to bed rest while waiting for the ultrasound she asked for a female aide to clean her after using the bed pan, she was told no. She was horrified and wept uncontrollably, as a male aide exposed and wiped her against her wishes. I could go on.. I hope our truth prevents another soul from being neglected in this same manner. Elim park and the State of CT needs to do a serious assessment of their facilities. read more
