Loved it!! I love the food in Spain!! Don't think I can ever get tired of tapas! Busy place, but we got seated pretty quickly. They have outside and inside seating- was packed- yet had efficient and friendly service! I had gone in thinking I will keep it light- but kept seeing people's plates and wanted to try everything! We ended up with: - misc fried fish; had sardine, calamari mostly; was crispy and flavorful. With what looks like is traditional Paxton peppers - sirloin steak: perfectly seasoned and grilled! Yummy! Came with a potatoe and bell pepper - salmon with hard boiled egg- this was a flauta - which is apparently baguette with whatever toppings - mushrooms with shrimp - was delicious - salad; regular garden salad! At the end I just had to have the torrija (bread pudding)- best one I've ever had. So warm, perfectly sweet and so comforting! Very reasonably priced too read more

I thought this was one of the coolest concepts for a restaurant I've seen in a while. It is a very touristy looking place and at first glance we would normally dismiss it as such however, a friend from Barcelona highly recommended it. A little confused as to what to do when we first walked in we were quickly greeted and walked through how the restaurant works. In short, there is a massive seafood counter where you pick what kind of fish, shrimp, mussles, etc. you want then you tell them how you want it cooked (fried, broiled, boiled, etc.). You then walk down the line to order drinks then pay, find a seat and wait for the food. The food all came out quickly but it does come out as the food is ready so you might get part of your order while everyone else at the table waits or vice versus. Really good tapas especially the eggplant chips with honey and the flautas. Service was confusing. The host said one hour for drinks, two hours for the table for food and drinks. Okay. The first waiter didn't even try to talk to us-perhaps a language issue- said nothing and two new waiters helped us. We understand that tipping is not required. It is up to the customer to tip for extraordinary service. It was okay service so no tip. We believe the waiter was looking for a tip but we may have read his facial expression incorrectly. Pretty good tapas place. Prices were a tad expensive but nothing crazy. Excellent shrimp and squid skewer. This was my favorite dish. My second favorite dish was cod with honey, tomato, and what I think was cheese. My wife thought it was a bit too sweet because of the abundant honey. My third favorite dish was the assorted fried fish. They were mini fishes that were fried & edible whole. Could have used a bit more salt. My wife's favorite dish was their cheese "pizza"- basically two mini baguette sandwiches with herbs and tomato and 4 cheeses. The fried artichoke wasn't that special. Loved that this place had a huge variety of food. The waiter was super nice and spoke english pretty well (even though he was convinced he could only speak a little english). We asked him for recommendations on what to order so he told us to get the fries with sunny side up egg (DELICIOUS) and a trio of appetizers, as well as a bottle of wine. We were both very stuffed and happy with the food. Though it says the place closes at 12AM, we actually left around 2:30AM, almost close to 3AM, so it was nice that they didn't kick us out. This was on one of Serious Eats top restaurants in Barcelona, but I thought we had better meals elsewhere. The specialize in mini sandwiches called flautas, hence the name, but they really were nothing special. The best things we ate here was foie gras and jam on a slice of baguette and a perfectly cooked hunk of steak on a baguette. Those were really excellent. 5/5 The fried fish were good, but could have been more crispy. 3/5 The grilled fish were just ok. We stumbled in after a long session of day drinking to satisfy our hunger. This is La Flauta II, recommended by our host party. The server was good and efficient. He was too fast, if that's possible in Barcelona. We ordered 10-12 tapas and it seemed they were put in all at once as opposed to the staggered method usually used in Spanish dining. The food was fresh, there were some unique choices and we were satisfied. The only reason for -1 star was due to the brevity of the meal. It all came out so quickly we finished eating and drinking in about 1 hour. Recommended, but stagger your order for a more relaxing meal. read more

I loved La Flauta. All of our servers we really friendly. They helped us pick out a wine for my friend who loves sweet white wines. The first choice we picked would not have been good for our meal- our friend ordered it with dessert, and it was like honey. They suggested another wine instead, and it was perfect for our meal. We came here thinking it was the original La Flauta (close by), but were confused- this is what they have called "La Flauta II". We came in at sat ourselves at around 3:30pm for an afternoon meal at the bar. Service was quick. We had 3 tapas and a few coffees. Noticed that many people around us came in for a quick meal- a sandwich (4-5€) and a wine. We didn't have any wine but it looked like the people around us enjoyed it. Everything is priced well, but we thought the food was okay... I'm not even sure I would recommend this place based on what we ate. We did have the egg/potato concoction. It was fine. Nothing extravagant. In fact, I wish we had just a simple sandwich or other tapa item instead. The coffees we had were delicious, though... Really good stuff and at a good price 1.2€. If we had more time here, I believe I would give it another shot. The next time, I would just go in for a simple sandwich and coffee. read more

There are lots of good things about this place and some not so good things, so while I'm putting down three stars, I'm verging more towards 2.5. Of the good things, right off the bat, I went in fairly late to have a nice dinner (around 11-12) and while there was a long line it actually moved forward fairly quickly and the wait was probably under half an hour. There was some debate as to how fresh the seafood was. My personal opinion is that everything tasted good and was seasoned well but that they tend to undercook (to my taste) slightly leaving things a bit softer as opposed to overcooking. Also, it might have just been that they were so busy they just tossed things on the grill until they were past the point of being raw. My advice is to ask for a menu written in whatever language you speak. They probably have it as this restaurant is situated near some hotels and a lot of tourists seemed to be there. Order product (fish, shrimp, vegetables, squid, etc.) as opposed to trying to wander through the menu unless you know what you want. It was very affordable. For 3 people with maybe 6-7 small plates tapas style it came out to around 60 euros. Everything was fairly average. The place is a little loud. It's not exactly fine dining. Everything's a little crowded. If you try and get up from the table to use the restroom or leave the restaurant you run the risk of being run over by a waiter. If you can deal with that, then this place is a nice, affordable choice. read more

We had a strange experience here! We walked in, were ignored by the two waiters who eyed us as we looked around. We walked into the front where locals were dining. Finally I said hello in Spanish and he waved/shooed us down to the back part of the restaurant where we were greeted in English and handed English menus. I thought this was strange. Seemed like a bit of a tourist trap sorta deal, which was weird as I had heard such great stuff about the restaurant. Anyway despite this- the food was good (if a bit greasy) and waiter who spoke English was really nice. We ordered patatas Bravas, anchovies and a tapas platter that had croquettes, seafood and green peppers. It was an inexpensive meal and we were full by the end. I think there are better tapas places out there- also more authentic ones too. But if you just want the food without having to read Spanish on the menu and guess what it is or communicate in Spanish with a waiter- then this is the place for you. read more

Our host recommended this place to us and we wanted to go back for a second night, but it was too crowded. Barcelona is one of my fav cities. I have stayed in the area several times and been to many restaurants. Almost always, you get excellent food in Barcelona. The food is OK. If I had gotten the same quality of food in NJ, I would have given it 4 stars. Compared to many other restaurants serving tapas, this one is definitely not among the top. The service is good, as in most other restaurants around here. The price is very fair too. I would definitely go back there for lunch but would look elsewhere for dinner. read more

Solid spot. Other than the 2 wait staff arguing at one another before getting seated, the food was delicious. I would suggest the anchovies, jamon and grilled calamari. We came here late so some of the staff were finishing up their shift and eating in a round table in the back. I actually appreciated that. Came here for my first meal in Barcelona. Friend recommended to get here early. They open at 1pm so we go there and sat ourself. Only one waiter spoke a lil bit of English so we had to wait for him. I guess he was busy with a larger table but he kept brushing is off. Eventually he came to our table and said in Spanish to let him finish with the other table first. I found it a bit pretentious especially with the fact we came and sat first on our table. I wasn't going to let them spoil our first meal in Barcelona...we eventually got him to help us and at that point you can tell he didn't want to. My wife asked for his recommendation which was already a no no since he was not in the mood. Food was decent. Don't get the pork, it's not good. The fried fish was good and their omelet was pretty big. I just wish our first eatery place in Barcelona wasn't so pretentious. read more

Great service and great food! We're a family from the states with minimal Spanish language skills but had a great experience at this restaurant thanks to a terrific waiter. He spoke excellent English and walked us through the available selections on the menu and made great food and wine suggestions.
