One perk is probably the only perk. That's a free meal with your shift, but the food is awful. It's the same thing every week, no variety. Icky icky place. Head for the hills!

I have worked in various facilities, specifically with dementia/Alzheimer's residents and despite the beauty of this building inside and out, the care is horrendous. It is the same exact care that you can get at any facility. Of all of the times I visited, there were always new staff members that had NO idea how to properly care for my grandfather. I spent hours going in to the facility only to care for my own grandfather rather than spending the time to visit with him and cherish those moments. I spent my time reminding the staff of the issues with his care and what they WEREN'T doing. He spent $10,000 a month to live there and in all honestly I could have taken better care of him myself without him spending $10,000 a month. His valuables were lost within the first year of him living there. He died with nothing on the walls of his room, staring into the ceiling with no one by his side. I am very disappointed in his care at this facility and do not recommend spending that amount of money because I can assure you that the money is NOT going towards those residents. Those residents spend their days staring at a TV all day with no one-on-one interaction. The nursing staff does not recommend PT or OT to help assist these residents to live a healthier/active lifestyle. My grandfather was put into a chair and thats where he ended up the rest of his days being there. The nursing staff lies to you and tells you that they are doing the proper care needed and I caught them in the act of lying. I had to remind them to donn his boots because he ended up with a nasty heel wound that the facility NEVER healed (still there when he passed away). He was chair/bed ridden and they couldn't even remember to donn his boots which is VERY important to avoid skin breakdown. I had to clean his mouth out and wash his face. I had to massage his legs because they would turn black/blue from being immobile and the staff wouldn't do it otherwise, even when asked. I had to ask them to reposition him in bed to avoid pressure sores and skin breakdown. I even asked them to give him a bath because he had a bad odor to him. To me, this is not good care. This facility needs to re-evaluate where all of that money is going and start doing their job. It is heartbreaking to go visit a loved one that suffers from a terrible disease only to find out the people that take care of him don't actually care about him, they care about their paycheck and when their time comes to go home. The staff was never attentive when we would visit. The CEO of the company only cares about opening more facilities across the state so he can make more money. We had several complaints throughout our time there and never once was apologized to or even considered for our feelings. I understand taking care of dementia residents is not easy, I can personally say it's one of the hardest things I've done but I have never turned a cheek on my residents and always did everything I could to care for them as a human being. The staff needs to put themselves in the residents shoes and care for them as they would like to be cared for. Karma will come around for those that look the other way. I recommend you think about the significant amount of money you will put into this company/facility and the type of care that truly happens behind closed doors. Think about how your loved one feels. This place is no different than the rest.

There will never be enough words to write for the gratitude my family has for this staff of incredible people. My grand mother was here for the better part of 4 years, and in that time each individual person from the front desk, kitchen , service staff, house keeping, hair dresser and nurses became her extended family. The Personal care was so unique to each person living there. The sound vista family learns everything about the resident and works every minuet to making their life as happy and for filled as possible. They have activities weekly, workouts, games, movie nights, you name it they do it. Wonderful day trips and so much more! This is Not the stigma of assisted living. This is a safe, clean, beautiful, comfortable, warm and caring home. **Most importantly is the staff. The people who work there are so kind, friendly and accommodating. **The nursing staff literally are ANGELS. My mother was at Franke Tobey Jones, first in an apartment, then assisted living and finally the…read morenursing home part of the facility. She enjoyed going for her daily walks participating in classes. She developed a deep friendship with one of the other residents. Staff were kind to her. The beginning of the tragic turmoil began during her transfer to the HCC. She was shocked. She was excluded from having any part in decision making for the HCC. When I took her to see her new room she sat down and cried, "Please don't let them put me here". I told the nurse, but they went forth with placing her in the HCC against her will. FTJ has a history of not disclosing that the nursing home (HCC) is far more restrictive and that the resident may not need this level of medical care. In the age bracket of my mother, residents are transferred to nursing homes, in order to access nursing home insurance. Through rapid transfer, isolation, immobility and restricting communication, my mother lost her level of functioning rapidly into the parameters of the insurance. The transfer to HCC, was over $10,000 per month. My mother was sent to live in a constricted small room along a dark hallway. When she looked out her windows she saw parked cars right in front of her room. After placement in the HCC, FTJ could then rent out the beautiful assisted living unit she had lived in with views of Mt. Rainier over the fountain. One of the administrators informed me that residents are often transferred before they need that level of care. A direct care provider told me how residents are placed with no contact with friends or family for two weeks. When I came to visit and support my mother two days after her move, I was told to leave immediately or they would call the 'authorities'. I asked to speak to the CEO, who was a compassionate man. I was told he was not available and I must leave. There was no consideration for our mother's needs for support from the family. She later told me she thought she would never get to see me again in her lifetime. Another staff member told me how residents are transferred and cry for a few days. She went on to say that staff give them lots of attention and gradually they adapt. After transferring from assisted living to the HCC I observed that residents were no longer looking up and engaging with others, like they did before. From my perspective the move against my mother's will, isolation, restraint to wheelchair is 'kidnapping'. I never would have believed before that FTJ would do this to her. My mother grieved, with her loss of freedom, choice and respect. She had been a social activist for equal rights of minorities in Tacoma and president of the YWCA. She trusted the medical system, as a professional in the field herself. How ironic that a citizen who fought for equal rights would have these taken from her when she became an elder. My mother had been promised with the move that she would get to eat with her friends. Never again. She was no longer allowed to get up and walk on her own with her walker. She was placed in a transport wheelchair, with footrests. My mother was restrained through taking away her means of mobility, unplugging her telephone, not allowing her to eat or visit with her friends in assisted living. My mother told me, "I am imprisoned. I have no more rights. I cannot speak at a deep level. I must be superficial in my conversation or they will confine me even more." "When I die I want you to be free. To go where you are loved and never have to come back". The new Nursing Supervisor, Jenny Dooley, RN, had been my mother's Nursing Care Coordinator from Sound Options. She put further restrictions in place. My mother could no longer eat with anyone from outside FTJ staff, including healthcare professionals specializing in this field. My mother wanted to go out with her sister to eat and go with myself to her beach cabin. This right was withdrawn, even with accommodations including adaptive equipment and care providers. As a retired ARNP, who was a rehabilitation disability specialist, it was so hard to simply stand back and watch it all happen. FTJ lacked the knowledge and provided unsafe behaviors in eating and drinking, toileting, transfers, and working collaboratively with family. When the struggle impaired my health I had to give up on trying to support my mother's duration of life. I needed to adapt her quality of life needs to simply visitation in her room, and never again to go visit family or even go to her own home. I even needed to get an attorney to quote the Washington state laws in order to be with my mother as much as SHE wanted 24/7 for her last month of life. FTJ had requested no more than 2 hours a day, which was devastating for my mother. FTJ forgets how one's life expectancy is significantly reduced when opportunity to be with loved ones is restricted. My mother felt trapped and at FTJ's mercy until she passed. Then she was free.

My mom moved here in August and was originally very happy. There have been major changes in…read moremanagement and we are very disappointed. First, the dining has gone seriously downhill. Menus routinely include terrible food options as the main course, such as hot dogs. The new chef is a very lovely person but she does not have experience as a chef. There has been a big decline in food quality, selection and service. There is almost never a fresh fruit or vegetable available at meal time. If there is a vegetable even included, it is a canned, nasty option. The meats have gone from nice options to mystery meats. My mom is frequently ordering extra hard boiled eggs to supplement protein. They run out of food and serve hot dogs to the final diners. This baffles me. They know exactly how many people they need to feed. Why is there a problem with ordering and planning? When she first moved in the dining room was a great place to be. All the servers knew all the residents. In fact, the lack of turnover is a reason we selected Solstice for mom. Residents often had guests over for meals. Now servers are constantly being replaced. They are frequently understaffed, and the executive director is in the kitchen helping. And no resident would invite a guest over for this food. The change in executive leadership led to the firing or pushing out of a lot of long time staff. Basic procedures have changed. Many residents are moving out. Solstice has a beautiful setting and my mom loves her cottage. But the decreased activities and dramatic decline in food are a serious problem. Look at the pictures attached to this review. One shot is what they have on their website. The others are recent meals for my mom. The sandwich was the only item served for that meal. There was no vegetable, fruit, dessert, etc. They are not meeting their claims or basic dietary guidelines at all.
