I contracted Elite Exteriors to build a 11 ft x 26 ft sunroom and a patio cover for my home in Newark. The contract was signed in August but the project didn't start until December due to awaiting permit approval from the city. Sam was the project manager on the job and he was very responsive throughout the project. In December, the project started and they first installed the roof panels and windows/doors. Initially, the roof panel installed didn't go all the way across to the side of the house. I contacted Sam about this and he did not hesitate and ordered another panel right away. Then, his guys came to custom fit the panel to exactly fit to the side of the house. I thought they did a pretty clean and professional job. It rained for a couple of weeks after and there were no signs of any leaks. Then, they worked on the electrical outlets and recess lighting. I had recess lighting installed inside the sunroom and outside the patio. I wanted the cool light color inside and outside the sunroom but it was on back order so they see ended up installing the warm light inside and the cool light outside. I requested it to be the same color inside and out so as soon as the cool light was in stock, Sam sent his guys to install the right color for me. They also installed the flooring and painted the inside wall of the sunroom. The flooring came out beautiful. The painting took a few tries but Sam was always happy to send his guys out to make it right. Overall, I am pretty happy with the overall project and the quality of the workmenship. read more

We decided that we wanted to put an aluminum pergola in the backyard. We received quotes from 3 companies. the first 2 companies suggested that what I wanted was not economical and had me thinking about building it different than I wanted it. When I met Sergio from elite exteriors, he was friendly, knowledgeable and sincerely listened to what we wanted and gave us a quote based off that. the quote was far less than the other 2 companies. We also felt it was a superior product. Sergio let us know it was going to be about 60 days before they could start. we agreed that was fine. He came over to double check measurements and gave us some advice that proved to be really good . we adjust the height and color of the louvered roof based on his recommendations and we are really glad we did. They cut each aluminum piece of the frame to perfection so that everything was level. They added electrical that is beautifully hidden and works flawlessly. they added LED lighting as well. What a great product! This company installed a lattice shade in our backyard and took the time to get the details right. We are quite pleased with the result. I finally received my deposit check back after posting review on the yelp and without going back-n-forth of what was said and done, I am glad to have received the check back that was postmarked on Jul 7. I just hoped they provided update that we are trying to locate your check and will mail ASAP instead of offering various explanations. I also got a call from Sam, the owner, who offered explanation as to why they are in business for over 14 years. Sam has been associated with West Coast Exterior for which there are several Yelp reviews (I'm attaching a picture from CSLB website) and I guess I understand the reasoning behind it. I also mentioned to Sam that I had wished they were more forthcoming with Customer references and providing contact phone numbers would have been a first step and if there were safe approach to visiting site, it would have been great. I know how painful it is to have a contractor renege on a promise since most contractor have only 15k in the bond and if the deposit is more than 15k, then it is very painful to recover if any. I just hope all contracting companies are trying to put themselves in the customer's shoes. I've also reached out to my local congresswomen to request a change in laws that protect customers from such issues. All in all, I really appreciate the call and check back. read more

TL;DR The overall quality and installation of our Louvretec patio cover was phenomenal. Sam and his crew did a really good job. My wife and I couldn't be any happier and are now able to enjoy our backyard comfortably. There were some road bumps along the way that probably could've been avoided with better planning. OUR STORY Will was the sales rep who initially came out on July 10, 2021 to introduce us to the all the available options that would meet our needs. Out of the three companies we met, Will was the most professional in the beginning. However, after the initial appointment, our follow-up questions and concerns via text/email weren't responded to in a timely manner. Some emails were also left unanswered or not properly relayed back to Sam, which contributed to some miscommunications downstream during the installation process. During this time, we had another project in progress. I indicated to both Sam and Will that we wanted to commit to Elite Exteriors, but they wouldn't be able to start until the concrete was poured and cured. Due to some technical issues and some materials being on backorder until January 2022, all progress had to be delayed. I relayed that information to Sam and told him that I would be in touch. Sam indicated that this wouldn't be a problem and on July 23, 2021, my wife and I signed their contract via DocuSign and gave our deposit. Fast forward to early March 2022, my other project was almost complete, and concrete was ready to be poured. I had concerns about the measurements and was hoping Sam (or someone) would come back out to re-measure to make sure the install would go through smoothly. Unfortunately, no one came out and I re-measured everything myself and communicated with Sam via text/email. The contract we signed was modified because we agreed to extend the cover to ensure that the BBQ island would be fully covered. Regardless, it would've been nice if Sam came out to make sure that I had all my ducks in a row in case I missed something. The first phase of our concrete was scheduled to be poured on March 21, 2022, which I communicated to Sam to make sure that we would start the patio cover installation two weeks after that. That was when the problems with scheduling problems started. Mind you, since we had gone to contract back in July, my wife and I were under the impression that the materials were already ready and just needed to be installed. We agreed to an installation date of April 4, 2022. Due to some rain and a pre-planned vacation, the second phase of the concrete got delayed. I reached out to Sam and we agreed to delay his team's start date to April 20, 2022. Again, my wife and I at this time were under the impression that all the materials were on standby and ready for installation. On April 18, 2022, I reached out to Sam and asked if the installation would begin on April 20, 2022. Our goal was for everything to be done by May 4, 2022, just in time for us to celebrate in our new backyard on Mother's Day (May 8). Sam indicated that he wouldn't be able to start until April 25th because the frames weren't ready yet. On April 25th, Sam texted and said that he wouldn't be able to start until the 26th/27th; his team showed up on the 27th. On the 28th, Sam texted to inform me that some beams needed to be recoated, which would delay the install by a few days. The team didn't show up to resume until May 5th. Clearly, by this point, the install wasn't going to be completed by Mother's Day, which completely ruined our plans! My wife was sorely disappointed and upset! On May 9th, the solid covered portion of the patio cover was mostly completed. On May 10th, Sam messaged me that he was planning to complete the project on May 11th and that he was waiting on some parts/louvers to be recoated with the correct color. On May 12th, I was given the same excuse. On May 16th, I was informed that the louvers still weren't ready. On May 18th, Sam messaged me with good news that the louvers would be installed and the project would be completed the following day. On May 19th, the project was finally completed. Sometime in early June, we got hit with some rain and noticed that water was leaking while the louvers were closed. I carefully investigated the problem and noticed that the louvers weren't installed with a proper slope. I reached out to Sam and he sent a team a couple days later to readjust the louvers, which solved the problem immediately. Overall, we are very pleased with the finished product, but things could've gone a lot smoother and communication with the installers was difficult. It really would've been nice if everything was completed by Mother's Day, but we understand that things happen. A lot of the issues could've been avoided and shouldn't have happened since there's was plenty of time for the materials to be made ready. I would love to give Elite Exterior five stars but can only give (a generous) four since the process wasn't smooth nor perfect. read more

This review is about their professionalism not about the product they are using. The roof turned out great but there are definitely room of improvement. We signed a contract with them back in Jun and we opted for permit to ensure everything is done correctly and we understand there would be delay with getting permit approval. I believe they can be better at communicating the delay and the regulation by the city so we can avoid revisions and further delay. Area of improvement can be on the PM side to ensure material is ready and painted for installation so it doesn't feel like doing part of it and wait and then the next step. Ensure the team is clear about outstanding tasks. I would suggest permit if you can go through the lengthy process so to make sure electrical work is done up to code if you are going to install lights and fans. We were expecting Sam to show up for inspection but he didn't and it was frustrating. However, in a conversation after this review, they said this is not their norm and they will make sure it won't happen. It did take them three times to pass the last inspection and Edward/Sam is aware and will improve upon. Here is my experience. The end product is great as you can see in the picture with 10 years warranty but the experience can be a lot better and less frustrated for parents who just want to get their backyard done for their kids during pandemic. update: i have a one star to start with and the owner offered me $500 discount because of the experience and i also agreed that they have no control over the permit process.
