I did not see the chiropractor here. (Though I did see the chiropractor as he came out to greet other patients while I was waiting for my massage. He seemed very friendly.) I went for the Thai Massage with Rawiwan. The massage room is inside the chiropractor's office, which is inside a building with other offices. It is quite sizable. the office has very good vibes, with lots of inspirational quotes, friendly pictures, and clean atmosphere. They also sell some raw honey that Dr. Paul apparently makes (is that the term? harvest?) himself. Love me some local honey! I got a jar and am glad I did. I'll be getting another jar soon. Anyway, on to the massage. The 1-hour massage lasted the full one hour (and then some). She uses hot stones, hot towels, and I'm not sure how she does it, but she doesn't reach out to get oil but somehow has it coming out as she's working on you with both hands! Like Spiderman or something. It was really cool. A really, very good massage. Talk to her and let her know if you need her to adjust strength and she gets on it right away. My husband and I both see Dr. PK Modi, and he is truly an exceptional chiropractor and a wonderful human. Before working with him, I didn't realize just how many issues chiropractors could treat beyond the back and spine. I struggled with chronic pain in my right arm for three years; it was truly miserable and made typing impossible. I went in for an appointment at Elite Performance Chiropractic while visiting Chicago for work. I usually see my chiropractor locally but with a long flight and low pillow in the hotel room, my neck was inflamed. I needed a solution fast before the flight back so I called on the day of and was able to go in right after they opened. I felt the warm welcome from the receptionist and was greeted by Dr. Kyle. After filling out the forms, I was directed to the room where Dr. Kyle and I chatted about my symptoms and past treatments. Off we went to the table to get hooked up to electro muscular stimulator with warm towel. After 20mins, Dr. Kyle adjusted my neck and shoulder using active release technique (ART) which treats your body's soft tissue by combining manipulation and movement. Dr. Kyle went through how I can build a stronger muscle around the pain areas. We went through resistance exercises with the strap and dumbbells. I have gotten treatment from Dr. Patrick for back pain and sciatic pain. My back strain was so bad I could not stand up or sit down without pain. Felt immediately better after my first visit. I was desperado for some ART (active release technique) work and a diagnosis on my dysfunctional right hip flexor (major pain lifting my leg post heavy back squat day). after calling around the entire city of chicago for ART-ers, elite performance was the first (and only) one to not only answer, but let me speak with the doc personally and fit me into their schedule the next morning. I guess it didn't help I was calling after 5pm on a Thursday, but I guess that's fate for ya. anyways, dr. p(atrick malartsik) ran some initial tests, hooked me up with an MRI later that day, and filled me in on my results the day after (a saturday, mind you). til this day, dr. p works with my schedule, coming in at 7am monday mornings to work out the tweaks in my hips and listen to my rants about lifting, crossfit, and life in general. my sessions were more than just rehab and ART, dr. p got to know the person I am and my long term fitness goals. he personalized my time with him and focused on my weaknesses (squatting form and weak glute meds) to prevent future injuries. basically, he was just as adamant as I was to get back at it (it, being lifting). the ART work itself was phenomenal. by phenomenal, I mean incredibly painful (which is what it's supposed to be) and effective. he worked through the problem areas and everything near and around them. within a few weeks, the chronic daily pain was gone. two and a half months later (these things take time), I'm completely back on my grind. lifting heavy sh!t and pr'ing left and right. he's just as excited as I am whenever I update him on my most recent accomplishments and loves hearing about it (atleast he makes it seem like it). long story short, elite performance invests in you (corny and lame, but so true). pro tips. - they've got a fully stocked keurig - there's free parking on the east side of Orleans and in the hood, north of their building - if you still can't find parking, there's a car wash down the street which you can drop your car off during your appt (swap paying for parking for a car wash, score!) read more

Years of dancing has led to my unfortunate knee pain. For years, I decided to be a trooper and push through the pain however recently, my left knee began to severely ache and I felt discouraged. In an effort to persevere, I looked on Yelp for physical therapists and came across Elite Performance. I made the phone call and was soon booked with Dr. Kyle! During my first appointment, he was very professional, caring and patient. We discussed my symptoms and came up with a treatment plan. Over the course of time, we have used Normatec, the ART technique and a series of exercises to strengthen the muscles/areas around my knees. What I appreciate the most about Dr. Kyle is his honesty and transparency. He comes up with a plan, sticks to it and assesses the progress along the way. His knowledge and expertise has assisted me tremendously on my journey back to healthy knees. Amazing. Seriously, amazing. A shoulder injury put me out-of-commission for 2.5 years. Now, after seeing Patrick, I'm back in the game. If you want to know why I decided to visit Patrick in the first place -- and what the exactly the results were -- I've detailed the entire story below (fair warning: it's pretty long. I tried to give as much context as possible in case it helps anyone who can relate to what I was going through). In March 2016 I was 22 years old and had been lifting weights seriously for three years. Never had any problems except the inevitable soreness that comes from heavy free weights. I was off-and-on with stretching. Sometimes I'd take it seriously. Sometimes I'd go weeks or months barely stretching at all. Never did yoga. So in general, my body was very tense, my muscles tight and inflexible. One day I was in the gym doing weighted chin ups and barbell rows. I finished the workout and everything felt fine. But the next day... boom: I couldn't even turn my neck to look in either direction. It was completely frozen. I'd have to turn my whole torso to look around. This lasted about a day, then subsided. In its place, I was left with a deep ache in my upper trap -- right between my spine and my shoulder. I began self-treating with a lacrosse ball and my fingers, trying to work out what felt like a giant knot. After returning to the gym cautiously, and nonetheless having my neck flare up again, I renounced the gym. I figured I'd let my injury -- whatever it was -- heal on its own by leaving it alone for awhile. The ache never went away. A few months later, I visited a chiropractor. He took x-rays. But there was nothing. No obvious damage. He outlined a plan for me, but I declined. He seemed hungry for money -- he was too smooth, almost scripted in the way he "pitched" me on his 8-week plan to fix my shoulder. I left his office unnerved and never went back. Fast forward a year and a half and I'm in the worst physical shape of my life. I'm almost completely sedentary. I haven't even done one pushup in nearly two years. The only exercise I've done is an occasional run on the beach. Running on pavement triggered an insufferable ache in my shoulder, so I quickly stopped trying. At this point I've moved twice and landed in Chicago. I'm sick of how I feel physically. Honestly, I began to wonder if I'd ever really get to use my body again. Would I ever play sports? Would I ever wrestle around with my brother or friends? Would I be limited to careful, boring sex iSo n the fear that anything too vigorous would trigger my old injury and incapacitate me? First-world problems, maybe, but that was my state of mind. So I decide to get an MRI. Again, nothing in the results that indicate injury. They refer me to a physical therapist who I see for several months with only moderate improvement. Fast forward a few months again. I'm still in pain. I still don't workout. I'm literally FANTASIZING about doing pushups and pull-ups. Some acquaintances mention having solved old injuries after getting treated with a technique called ART. I'd heard of it before in passing, but now I'm intrigued. So I hop online and look for someone in Chicago who offers it. That's when I landed on Patrick and Elite Performance. His business was one of the first in my search results. It was conveniently located for me, so I booked a visit right away. We immediately hit it off. I grew up in Hawaii. My first visit, he'd literally just returned -- the day before -- from a two week trip to the islands. Suffice to say, we had plenty to talk about. But I don't think that experience was unique for me. Patrick radiates warmth and positivity. Anytime I arrived early while he was finishing up with another client, they'd always be chatting. He's just friendly. Plain and simple. He asked me about what I was dealing with, did a few range-of-motion tests, and explained what he thought he could do to help. I was sold. There was no pitch, but I didn't think twice about coming back. So I did! Twice a week for just over a month. The results? Well, I'm sitting here having just returned from two weeks in Wyoming. While there I: - tore down and built about 50 yards of barbed-wire fence (which required lifting, throwing, and pounding 7 ft. long, 6 inch diameter logs into the ground) - ran up a 12,000 ft. mountain - spent multiple hours kayaking on a lake (often racing my friend) And that whole time, I barely once thought of my shoulder. No pain at all. I seriously felt ALIVE again. Since working with Patrick, I've started working out three times a week. No weights yet. All calisthenics: feet-elevated pushups, dips, handstand pushups (working up to them), pull ups, chin ups, and and back-bridges. But I can do it all without pain. I'm stronger and more active than I've been in nearly three years. And seriously, as corny as it sounds to say, I feel like I have a new lease on life. I had absolutely agonising shoulder pain after work one day this week, I was in Dr Patrick's office the next morning in a pretty bad way and he told me I had a trapped nerve. He did some magic, showed me a good sleep position and although I was sore that day, woke up feeling a million times better. The second visit fixed it. I'm now the proud owner of a little sponge thing he sold me to make me sit straight at my desk, and a little red band which I must use to do my shoulder blade exercises. I have had a nagging injury/overuse issue going on in my right leg for about 1.5 years now. I have gone to Dr prescribed PT and stopped training for marathons over all. After going to EPC I have confidence in starting to train again as well as clear, unambiguous directions to take in my own training. & strength development to avoid any further injuries of this kind. This review is in regards to my visit with Dr. Todd. To preface: I have had chronic knee problems throughout my life as a result of my basketball career, leading me to get surgery on my patella tendon and multiple scopes for repeatedly tearing my meniscus. With that, I have constant pain in my right knee which in turn has impacted other parts of my body - it has put more pressure on my right leg, tweaked my back and hips, and reduced leg strength. I went to see Dr. Todd after hearing and reading numerous good reviews. I was hoping to receive different treatment than prior experience... which has been the typical doctor pushing me to get another surgery, chiropractors having me come in for ongoing "adjustments", etc. Fortunately, Dr. Todd isn't your typical chiropractor. After my first appointment with him, he made it clear on how we are going to fix and strengthen my patella tendon in order to regain balance in my body. I saw Dr. Pat after completing my first marathon in 2016. My left knee was experiencing some bad pain post race after just a quarter mile. Dr. Pat assessed my situation and provided in office treatment and physical therapy and then provided me with at home exercises to continue with after our in office sessions were over. That being said, I've continued running and have subsequently completed 3 more marathons along with other distances with no knee discomfort. I had never been to a chiropractor before visiting Elite Performance for the first time. I was hesitant but desperate, as I was in a lot of pain and left work early, unable to finish the day. A friend recommended Dr Pat and I called, not expecting to see him that day but crossing my fingers. I made an appointment with Dr. Patrick for a shoulder impingement injury that I've been trying to treat for about 8 months with no success from other physical therapists or chiros. So I was a bit skeptical when I came in. Dr. Patrick was very understanding of my skepticism and after the evaluation designed a program with ART and exercises tailored to my specific needs. Within 8 weeks, the shoulder impingement had decreased to a point where I could lift and bench press with minimal pain, continuing to decrease with each passing week. I was astonished at how the simple exercises he prescribed helped treat a condition that I've had for months and one that trained physical therapists could not help with. Having just moved to Chicago, I originally found Dr. Patrick through the Active Release Technique website, since the most effective Chiropractors I have had have been ART certified and used it regularly in their practice. I originally went to Dr. Patrick seeking help for my seriously painful neck I was suffering from which he did a through new patient evaluation for me first, then adjusted me, did some great ART work and then gave me several exercises to do at home which would help. I really appreciated his identification of my movement and need for adjusting my habits through these exercises. He also asked me about my daily routine, to determine the root cause as well as whatever had exacerbated it and recommended changing my pillow, paying attention to my daily routine etc. I went to him on a biweekly then weekly basis and my neck pain went away in a few weeks after suffering from it for months. Most recently I have been going to Dr. Patrick for my horrible headaches which have had constantly and his work has proved to gradually improve my headaches week by week. I have seen him to do adjustments and ART work. If I miss an appointment I definitely see the progress go backward. Slowly but surely he is helping me to knock out these ongoing headaches and recommends vitamins, muscle creams and changes to my daily routine which I should evaluate and adjust. Dr. Patrick and Liz his wife who is also a Chiropractor there, they are great people, super friendly and genuinely care about their patients. I was referred to Dr. Malartsik about a month ago and I wish I would have known about his practice 2 years ago when I moved to Chicago! He is hands down a miracle worker! Very friendly staff and happy welcoming environment! Dr. Malartsik is incredibly knowledgable and informative about his profession. Not only does he know how to fix any bit of pain, but he explains step by step what he is doing and how it will help. He also does not just send you on your way after your session, he gives you stretches and exercises you can easily do in the comfort of your own home to continue the therapy between sessions with him. For me it was years of cheerleading, dance and having a very physical job (teaching various exercise classes), that have caused me to develop pains in my low back, hip flexors and hamstrings. He went throughly through all of my concerns and issue and then step by step walked me through a series of movements and positions to figure out where everything is stemming from and where is best to start. I have a degree in Exercise Science and have a good understanding of the body but he was able to go so much further in depth and clearly explain everything to me what was going on and what we would be doing to fix the issues. I'm not going to lie, some of the movements I did were painful, but he helps you breathe through it and talks to you to help distract your mind. Once we were done I felt like a completely renewed body, it was incredible to feel so limber and loose where i had such tightness and pain before! I had never been to a Chiropractor before and have always been scared of all the jolting popping I had heard from other places but in my very first visit he had me walking out a full believer in his Chiropractic skills and there was nothing scary or jolting about his work what so ever. He is truly the best and I always look forward to my visits instead of anxious. It is so great to have less and less pain between each visit with him...I can literally feel my body getting back to normal!
