The weight racks at Elite Strength
K N.

Saturday at Elite, I watched a 104 pound woman deadlift 190lbs. I've also seen Trainer Scott bench press over 300 pounds. As someone who walked in not knowing what "amrap" or a "snatch" was, I can attest to their ability in training not just a novice but someone completely ignorant of almost all weightlifting practices. I can also attest to their ability to train already strong individuals. (I'm not exaggerating when I say that the people that sling weight around bars in that facility are jacked.) Really, really buff dudes have gotten girlishly excited over personal records. Despite this, I've watched people of varying body types accomplish so many different tasks. Not only is there an extensive variety of people training, there's also personalization. This isn't a gym where one routine works for everyone. They've modified my already pretty aggressive cardiovascular routine to supplement my current fitness goals. I'm not Olympic lifting because it doesn't benefit my boxing, but I am constantly challenged during every session by innovative techniques. Strength and conditioning with Elite has already made me a better boxer and stronger runner.

I've truly enjoyed what the Downtown Tampa YMCA brings to downtown -- a wellness facility that…read moreblends community spirit with reliable fitness offerings. This wellness center boasts an efficient layout--compact yet thoughtfully arranged--with plenty of cardio machines, weight stations, and free weights. Locker rooms are clean and functional. The space overall is well-maintained and welcoming. Many staff and member reviews echo the same sentiment: "friendly and helpful staff... always clean." Hours & Convenience The hours are great for working professionals: Monday through Thursday from 5am to 8pm, Friday until 7pm, Saturday until 1pm, and Sunday until noon. After 5:15pm, members get two hours of validated parking at the nearby Fort Brooke Garage--huge bonus in downtown Tampa. The Studio offers small-group training, yoga, and specialty classes throughout the day, with sessions available early in the morning, during lunch, and in the evening. Instructors like Rickey (spin) and others consistently earn praise for being both motivational and engaging. From the front desk team to personal trainers, the staff here make a real impact. They're professional, warm, and ready to help, whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth. The gym feels like a positive, welcoming environment--not overly flashy, just consistent and community-minded. Smack in the middle of Downtown Tampa, just steps from the Riverwalk and Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, this YMCA is a wellness oasis for locals and office workers alike. It's a hub for both fitness and outreach, staying connected to the Channelside and Downtown neighborhoods. A few notes: the gym can get a bit busy during peak times (especially lunch), and group fitness classes can be very high-energy--sometimes with music turned up a little too loud. But overall, these are minor quirks in an otherwise stellar facility. Final Verdict 4.5 out of 5 stars -- A solid, well-run fitness center with great staff, solid equipment, and an easy-going atmosphere. If you live or work downtown and want a consistent, welcoming space to get your workout in, this YMCA is a gem.

The pool, hot tub, and sauna were all at perfect temperatures, and there was plenty of space in each one. There's also a large cycling room and mirror room for dancing. I also appreciated the little touches too, like having shampoo, conditioner, and body wash available in all the showers, and the water in the shower was nice and hot also. It's also great that they offer a "Kids Klub" even though it appears to only be open one day a week based on the posted sign. The fresh fruit smoothies are also a great option particularly for morning workouts and the lockers are spacious and give you the option of bringing your own lock. There were a couple of things that felt a bit off. Fox News was playing in the bathroom, which came across as unprofessional, and one of the benches in the sauna felt unsafe since the wood gave way. I also couldn't locate the weight machines, although I didn't check everywhere so they may have been on another floor. Overall, it was a great gym experience and I look forward to coming back!

If you have high or even basic standards avoid the S Dale Mabry LA Fitness location. Who cares if you have to drive a little out of the way! Cleanliness needs to be drastically improved and being a Signature club, it's beyond unacceptable. It is not an elevated experience in any way. I was visiting from Winter Park so I just picked the closest location to where I was staying. After I checked in, the front desk woman chased me down and said I had a standard membership and needed to come back to the desk to upgrade the a Signature membership or pay a $10 day pass to use this location. I paid the extra fee but the whole experience was very disappointing. Numerous machines are old and rusty and I attempted to use 3 different elliptical machines before I landed one that worked. The whole place lacked the basic standards like access to multiple wipe stations for to clean off your machines, no cleaning staff to be found and the women's shower area had a pool of muddy water that had accumulated. It lacked the basic etiquette of other gyms for instance, people use the sauna to dry their dirty wet towels! I should have taken pics of the shower area too but I hightailed it out of there! The WiFi is spotty and drops in the sauna and that was the final straw. Time to go! When I was leaving I let her know that for being a "Signature" location and to pay extra for access, the place was sub-par and she asked, "is that good or bad?" I said let me put this politely, it's bad. Very bad. Tomorrow I will try the one farther north or south in the Tampa area and hope for the best!

Then I heard about this location opening up on this date, on this date etc. I reached out to check on additional costs since originally it wasn't "included" on our member level. I believe they wanted $300 more on top of the $359 monthly. I told them they can pound sand. Then mysteriously this club was included in our membership. I was pumped to find this out. So I came here for massage today which Bailey did a great job but there are some key things missing with this club. First, no steam room in the Men's locker room? The Kids Academy? All of the kids are in one room together and it's a rather cramped room as well. I asked if there was plans to expand but there is not. I can't imagine brining a baby there because it's loud in there. I went to the Cafe and they were out of 3 types of Shakes - one I asked for before I was told they were out. Also, when I got my message, there was no Hot Tea available. I counted 12 trainers on the floor but only 2 were busy. I felt bad for them. The layout on the gym floor seemed very cramped between equipment. I'm glad they opened but some changes need to be made with this layout if possible esp with all the kids in one room.
