Grant is the best! He absolutely knows how to cut hair, and he is fast too. I've been to Grant for a haircut several times in the last four years since moving to Spokane. He is genuinely a nice guy and has such creativity. The South Hill location was closer for me, but I'll drive the distance to have Grant cut my hair, for sure! I have had Grant color my hair too (which was fantastic), but I'm going natural now and just letting that grey happen. Although that could change in the future (haha). Scheduling an appointment is also super easy, and I can usually schedule in the next week or so (since I'm one of those "oh geez, I need a haircut now" type people). read more

Generally, I wouldn't say that I'm a picky person, and my hair is one area that applies. That being said, I generally like to leave a salon with hair that I am happy with when I look in the mirror. More often than not, though, if I ever do go in asking for something, it's fairly straightforward, so as to nix out room for large errors. Unfortunately, I'm always a little disappointed with the result, but I've gotten used to it. That all changed when I went to Elixir. I was lucky enough to snag an appointment with Grant, the manager of the salon (which I was able to do online at their website). Not only was he very funny and personable, he communicated with me very well on what kind of hairstyle I was envisioning throughout my appointment. I went in and asked for purple peekaboo highlights and a shaggy cut, and what did I leave with? Purple peekaboo highlights and a shaggy cut. It was exactly what I had asked for, and it looked amazing! And the price was actually affordable, to boot. One thing I will add as more of a precaution: the parking situation is a bit confusing, as the front, main entrance is not on the main road. Thankfully, though, they explain where parking is on the site itself to help avoid any further confusion. I found this salon with a "living social" coupon deal for a mani/pedi for $29 - an amazing deal and good introduction to a new salon. It is located almost downtown on Sprague - past the rather shady area of east Sprague which makes a difference. They don't have a parking lot, but plenty of street parking on the side streets or behind the building. I was greeted as soon as I walked in and hardly had time to look around before my stylist came to get me. The building is an interesting older one with quirky rooms, steps and areas - but I found it to be charming. For my pedicure, it was a comfortable cushioned chair and a basin with stones. I like this a bit, but it does make you lift your leg up past a comfortable level and seems to be uncomfortable for the gal doing the treatment as she had to hold my foot on her knee - but it worked out alright. And she was perfect for my taste - Jennifer only talked when I did and was quiet otherwise instead of rambling on as so many technicians seem to do. Great treatment with all the usuals and a wonderful massage - the best part! The manicure was at a traditional table with soaking, filing, buffing and painting. Oh and cuticle removal - thank goodness! I had also requested a bang trim - which she did for FREE! Apparently, that is always the deal. How nice and what a treat! Definently worth the drive downtown - even though it was Hoofest weekend! They also do facials, massage and permanent makeup. Oh, and their online booking system was awesome! No playing phone tag. You just select your service and treatment and it tells you what stylists are available and what time. Once you book, you get a confirmation and then a reminder closer to your date. Best experience ever!! Grant Stead is worth every penny. He squeezed me in because I am leaving for vacation soon and because he loves doing hair! I got a cut, partial highlight with tone and blow dry. Price was amazing, location was easy to get to, the building was super clean and adorable. You can tell that Grant takes pride in his work and his salon. The scalp massage was so good. I should have just emptied my wallet for the massage! I found Niki Powell at the Northtown mall about 4 years ago, and she's literally the best hair artist I have ever come across. I've followed her to the different locations she's worked at because I am committed to her work. Yes, she is that good. I love the location at Elixir. It's a gorgeous little salon, quiet and the whole staff is full of friendly folks. Of course I recommend Niki all the way, but I think you're in good hands with anyone in this salon. Niki is so personable and she's so easy to work with to schedule an appointment. I get random comments about my hair all over Spokane because Niki hooks me up right. Grant does a wonderful job! I came all the way from Moses Lake based on other reviews (I mean I was coming to Spokane anyways, but still- I chose Grant over any place in Moses!). He cut my hair exactly as I requested and did a terrific job on my color. Nice little location with parking in behind. Fantastic "counselor" or person just to talk to. He took interest in getting to know me and keeping me entertained for the three hours I was there. Great experience and I will return. read more

I am horrible about getting my hair cut, especially after my normal one retired. I moved up to the south hill several years ago and dealt with the more inexpensive get you out the door quick places. I put off getting my hair cut over and over and over. I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment with grant. Making an appointment insured I would actually go...lol. grant was awesome he was not overly pushy on the getting to know you stuff. He made the experience comfortable and inviting. I had gone to this salon a couple months ago to get my hair trimmed and layered. They did a decent job, though not my favorite haircut ever. I came back recently to get an ombre done and they did it completely wrong, leaving me with a horrible hair dye. I had to wear a hat for two days until I could get an appointment somewhere else. They didn't listen to what I told them I wanted and decided to do an ombre how they thought was correct. It looked like I had badly done, chunky highlights starting half way done my head. As if that wasn't bad enough, I had two freak streaks going almost up to my roots. The salon I went to afterwards did an excellent job but couldn't completely fix the damage that had been done at Elixir. DO NOT go here to get your hair dyed. read more

I am fairly new to the area, and I cannot tell you how happy my daughter and I are on discovering this Fabulous Salon. I brought my daughter in for a haircut, which was done by Grant, the owner. It turned out picture perfect and he was very friendly and he really took the time to ask questions along the way making sure it was exactly how she wanted it. The salon is set up very nice and each of the stylists were very friendly and just made it a place that you would want to come back to . I decided to make an appt.myself with Niki and had foil highlights done the next day (Sunday...very nice). My hair has not looked this good in a very long time. She did a great job!
