I just moved to Raleigh not too long ago, and one thing I dread about moving to a new area is finding a new esthetician. Why? Because you can't just trust anyone to give you a Brazilian wax. I've had my great share of Brazilian wax horror stories (from getting burned to having an esthetician leave wax on my skin) and I can verify if someone is a Brazilian wax rookie, or novice. So, if you'd like the basic breakdown, I'm going to list in bullet points below, and if you would like the long, detailed version, keep reading after the bullet points. What I loved about Elixir: - Kelly is extremely warm and welcoming - Appointments are easy to make - Wax area is clean - Bathroom is clean - Elixir has hard and soft wax. Depending on your skin & hair type will determine what wax is used - $24 promo on Groupon matched in spa - Wipes, oils, and sanitizers available for you to use pre and post Brazilian wax So in search of a new esthetician, I thought why not find a phenomenal person on Groupon, and verify how awesome they were by cross referencing reviews on Groupon, Yelp, and Google. And that my fellow Yelper, is how I found Elixir. I stumbled upon Elixir Skin Spa on accident, but it was the best accident ever. Being a Groupon addict, I saw that they had an amazing deal for a Brazilian waxes for $24. And anyone who gets waxed regularly, should know that $24 is a steal! Being from California, and having worked in Miami, Brazilian waxes can range anywhere from $45 and up. The majority I've paid for were around $60-$65 at top notch salons. Before I was about to purchase the Groupon, I gave the salon a call. I got in touch with Kelly, the owner and esthetician, and made an appointment. She had asked if I bought the Groupon yet, and I told her no. She informed me that she will match the Groupon price in the salon without me having to buy the Groupon. This is great because it allows 100% of the deal to go straight to Elixir, and Groupon won't take a cut. It also eliminates logging into your Groupon app, finding the voucher, giving the voucher number etc. At the day of my appointment I was greeted by Kelly. I had some client paperwork to fill out in reference to my skin type and medication I was taking. You know, the norms before you go have a service done at a salon. After the paperwork, I was taken to the back room for my wax which was super clean and chic. Kelly has everything you need for pre and post Brazilian waxes from baby wipes, medicated wipes, tissues, oils and hand sanitizer etc. As I got ready for the wax, I had informed Kelly that I was a bit nervous, but this wasn't my first wax. Everyone who gets Brazilians knows that getting waxed ALWAYS hurts. BUT, the first time is always the worst. Kelly was super amazing and made me feel uber comfortable. Altogether the entire process was about 30 minutes which is standard for an experienced waxer and experienced waxee. During the wax Kelly played background music and she casually talked to me to keep me distracted. I even sang along to some of the songs. What I loved about Kelly, is that when cursed (F bombed galore), yelped, or let out a little yell, she would encourage it! She would say things like,"Is that all you got for me girl? Come on you can do better." Or would encourage me to let out my yell by saying,"Okay deep breath in....Now let it all out." Like seriously, Kelly, could you have been anymore awesome? Kelly is so fantastic! A friend and I called late in the day hoping to get in for some eyebrow waxing. She was extremely accommodating and even offered to extract some tough acne I was having on my chest for a great price! I went to Elixir for a Brazilian wax. I found the deal on groupon and figured I give the place a try even though they only had one review, the one I saw was a great one. I called to schedule my appointment and Kelly couldn't hear me well, so I opted to do a online scheduling. Not too long after scheduling, Kelly sent me a very nice email apologizing for the bad reception and confirming she saw my current appointment. I was already impressed with the customer service from then. When I got there, she was very welcoming and offered me bottled water and gave me a waiver asking basic medical questions. When I got inside the room, it was very clean and well lit. Inside the room was many different types of waxes, exfoliating products, and oils. During the wax, we had conversations about various different topics and I was even comfortable enough to text. It was one of the most painless waxes I ever experienced. Every time we got to an area that would be a little painful, Kelly gave me a warning. When there was stray hairs she couldn't get the first time, she went back and wax the area to ensure they were all gone. She even went a step further and removed all of my ingrown hairs, something I've never experienced with any other esthetician but was GREATLY appreciated. Kelly provided one of the most comfortable and thorough Brazilian waxes I've ever experienced. In the 1.5 years I have lived in Raleigh I was too nervous to get a Brazilian or my eyebrows waxed, fearing something would go wrong, or I wouldn't be able to find the right person who I felt comfortable with.
