We had a great stay here last week. No problems with check in as we were pre paid. Just held a card for incidentals. There's a restaurant on site which seemed busy with a bar stayed open til 10pm. The location was fantastic. Walkable to most of town. Staff were friendly. Our room was clean and big for the 3 of us. We got the loft room which had two queen beds in a loft area with a closet and plenty of space for the two of us to spread out out stuff. Downstairs there was a couch/sofa bed tables and chairs and a dresser and hanging area for clothes. Nice bathroom with a big shower. Plenty of towels. We had already taken up the space with all our stuff before i remembered to take room pics so I didn't get those unfortunately. We did encounter noise at night in the hallways around 12am but it's a hotel and to be expected. They had a nice coffee maker and kettle for tea. Refrigerator and even some robes. They don't have a shuttle like their website and info states they do to take you places within town. When I inquired at the desk about it she gave me coupons for a free round trip bus ride which we took to the fairmont as it's a bit further out. So that was nice. Bus stop is in the next block so easy to get. Great hotel and affordable compared to some in this town! Loved the loft room. read more

This review is a short and simple one for the meal we ate here from a tour we were on. This hotel is very centrally located in the center of town and became our lunch spot from our city tour. We walked in and passed the check-in as we walked to our private room for our buffet lunch. There were three long tables set up for us with open seating which is nice as you get to meet new people while your traveling. They had a lovely buffet set up for us with exactly what you would expect, salad, pasta, potato and a few vegetables. There was a nice carving station of brisket. All the good was prepared very well and very tasty. From my view of the room it appeared that everyone was satisfied. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful where necessary. Extremely disappointing experience and would not recommend booking directly with this hotel. Overall the property felt dirty and poorly managed throughout our stay. We stayed 2 nights (July 9-11, 2026) and the room was never serviced by housekeeping--we only found out on our second evening, after calling down ourselves, that there's now an opt-in policy requiring guests to request cleaning. This was never mentioned at check-in or in our booking confirmation. We checked out at 10am on July 11, a full hour before the 11am checkout time, and no one raised any concerns about the room. We even stayed on for brunch at the on-site restaurant afterward. Then at 10:17pm that same night--almost 12 hours after we'd left--we got an email saying the room needed "excessive cleaning" and a $50+ fee had already been charged to our card, along with a video that didn't reflect the condition we left the room in. Nothing was damaged or missing, and our minibar wasn't even touched. A separate unexplained $21 charge also appeared on our card after departure, with no notice or itemization at all. We've called the hotel repeatedly, including a call lasting over an hour, trying to reach the General Manager, Housekeeping Manager, and Front Desk Supervisor. No one has called us back, and each department just redirects us to another. This level of disorganization and lack of accountability says a lot about how the property is being run. Having your card on file shouldn't mean charges can be added after you've left with no warning and no way to dispute them in person. Phenomenal hotel. I have stayed here twice now and I highly recommend it. It's in the perfect location, right in the heart of downtown Banff. Right across the street from the high school, where all the bus routes stop, making it so easy to get anywhere. Excellent staff! Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Matthew at the front desk provided exceptional service, and even helped me with a late check out to make it easier on my shuttle and flight schedule. I love all the modern decor and amenities. My king bed was very comfortable and I enjoyed the products in the bathroom. Espresso machine, tea kettle, and refrigerator in the room too. A desk for working as well. Extra seating by the lovely window. They even provided earplugs. I really appreciate all the details. The lobby is lovely and very specious with seating options and fire place. Fresh water offered too. They have a restaurant on site, and are also connected to a really good coffee shop. They have a nice gift shop too, and inside are people who can help you book excursions. They helped book a beer cruise on a nearby lake and it was so much fun. This place has everything you need. read more

Let's start with the good. Great location in the heart of Banff. The restaurant is amazing, we had a wonderful breakfast and dinner. Unfortunately, the hotel staff here doesn't care about their guests or their guests belongings. One afternoon we came back to the room and found one of our pillows (a pillow that we brought with us that is needed for back and neck pain) thrown on the floor. We let reception know about this and got an apology. When we checked out they didn't ask how our stay was or followed up on our issue, just a quick "you're all set". Generally, cleaning staff seems annoyed to be working there and is blasting music early in the morning (7am) when people are trying to sleep. The rooms were haphazardly updated. The furniture seemed very cheap. The shower was leaking by the door and there was no ventilation. The heated garage was nice since we were there when it got colder at night. read more

Positives: great location near most of the shops and restaurants of downtown Banff. Restaurant and coffee bar located inside the hotel. Rooms are updated and fairly clean. We needed to open a wine bottle and they brought us an opener to the room. Negatives: wifi is terrible. Usually I wouldn't use a hotel's wifi due to security concerns but in Canada Verizon only gives us 2GB before throttling data speeds to useless levels. Videos pause every few seconds to buffer during peak times. Don't even think about using it for zoom meetings etc. We had a first floor room. At around midnight daily workers would push carts right behind our room creating very loud noises. They would also talk loudly. I was initially puzzled about the earplugs on the nightstand but understood after the first night. I find it unacceptable that they would think people should wear them overnight though. The bathrooms have no ventilation and get extremely steamy after showering. The ceiling had many stains, which I'm assuming have something to do with the high humidity. It was off-putting though. We were staying at the hotel with a tour group. The breakfast they served us was terrible. The scrambled eggs were cold, slimy, and mushy. Coffee cups were not available. Selection of items was pretty limited. Almost nothing for kids--the only cereal was Rice Krispies and corn flakes. They should probably remove the paper coasters identifying their restaurant Farm & Fire from this buffet area as they wouldn't want people thinking the food comes from there. read more

Our home away from home. I chose this hotel because of its central location. Plus it was pretty darn cheap,, and decent. Also did it because there was a jacuzzi and sauna room which we never really got to utilize. Free parking was super useful, specially the fact that we rented a car so we can get around to place freely. Plus the whole underground parking area was heated. So no need to run out and start the car so it'd warm up before heading out. Plus it's kind of nice to pack up the car when you're all nice and toasty. The rooms were pretty massive. We got a corner room which was a bit noisy during the day, but then we're in Banff. We're pretty much doing stuff outside anyways. Heat controls are also done via front desk. Just let them know how warm you like it and they'll adjust it for you accordingly. I had a great time staying here during our little winter getaway. I'd definitely recommend this place for anybody who is panning on visiting Banff. Also, before I sign off,,, That deep soaker tub in the bathroom is FIRE! Thank you so much for reading my review. We loved our stay here. Found the hotel to be conveniently located in the heart of downtown and had such a cozy/quaint feel to it. Check in was easy and we appreciate the privacy/security of the garage parking. Only downside was how outdated the tv was but was not a big deal at all. Walls are kind of thin, you could hear people walking by and talking which I can see how that can be disruptive to light sleepers or people with little ones. Would stay here again! read more

Pleasantly surprised at the quality and service of the place. Location was good - close enough to walk to everything but far away enough to not hear the partying. I added the surprise part because when I went to check in, there were two HUGE tour buses dropping off over a dozen people from each bus. I thought crap, I went and reserved myself into a 2-night stay at a crappy place. Turns out, I was wrong. The staff was outstanding, the room was good quality, and the beds were more than comfortable. More importantly, the gaggle of tour groups I first mentioned? Nice downtown location, convenient to everything including an IGA grocery store across the street. Restaurant and Coffee Shop are conveniently located within the building as well. Decor is hipster-ish but the rooms are spacious, clean, and appointed with the expected amenities - and - bonus points for supplying a Nespresso machine. Très gentil! I guess it can get noisy as there were supplied foam ear plugs at the bedside, but we didn't hear much noise at night. read more

The hotel is in a convenient location where the main shops are located. They are under way with renovations to upgrade their rooms with air conditioning since March which is a good sign that many visitors would appreciate. Although my tour guide said that most hotels try not to have air conditioning to save the environment around Banff, it is hard not to upgrade if some customers are complaining. The hotel is nice and clean but I did get lost when I tried to take the stairs. It seems that they have another wing that is not connected to the main part of the hotel. I did not try the restaurant or bar but we walked to the downtown core which was about 5 min away. They do have a shuttle to Fairmont nearby during the day but we arrived after dinner and left in the morning to the Rockies. read more

How can a hotel operate without Airconditioning? Came here on an Amtrak Canadian rookies trip, worst trip organizer ever! Amtrak has sold the group tour given impression that we will get 4 star hotels and some Tour assistance. From crown Plaza (IHG) standard, we dropped to Quality Inn bcos they 'forgotten to booked! Now in Banff, from Lake Louise to this Elk ave hotel that does not have Airconditioning and they put a dummy AC on the wall but it is not connected. A fan on ceiling and a portable fan in the closet, a pair of ear plugs at the bedside- these tell us it's going to be noisy and hot! Still have 2 days here and it's contemporary look does not do anything for my sweaty PJ even with window open as the receptionist suggested! Do Make Sure the AC is really installed with option to cancel if they did not put it in. Too HOT with so Much carpet and hairy velvet pillows! read more

What a value! This was such a nice find. I stayed for one night. The location is perfect-right in town on the main drag. I could walk to countless restaurants and shops. The hotel itself was sleek and modern. There are lots of areas to be seated on the first level as well as a bar and restaurant. I had a room with two queen sized beds. The room was spacious with lots of closet room. Bonus for being eco- friendly. The bathroom had a large deep tub for soaking (which unfortunately I didn't get to use. They had earplugs available in the room- a first for me. The only thing I found loud were people walking down the hall early in the morning with ski boots. Would benefit from a full length mirror. The on-site restaurant served breakfast with a variety of options. Recommend staying here. read more

After a lovely first night stay in Banff at the Ptarmigan Inn we wanted to stay another night in town and gave the Elk & Avenue a try... NEVER again! Arrived to a dirty room with hair left all over the bathroom and on bedding. Walls were paper thin. When we got back to the hotel at 9:30 after dinner to relax and enjoy our room we were greeted with extremely loud neighbours. Through paper thin walls we could hear their yelling word for word even over our television. Called hotel management who showed no real authority when asking them to settle down. Must be why they supply the room with ear plugs... RED FLAG! Woken at 3am by noise and heard hotel employee joking with the occupants about it and our previous complaint. Hotel lobby bar closes at 10. Beds were not comfortable. Save yourself the trouble and money; book with one of Banff's major resort properties and not this poorly managed hotel. read more

After my original accomodation fell through I was left scrambling to find a new place to stay in Banff. Ideally it had to be reasonably priced and well-located. Elk and Avenue met those two criteria. It is in the heart of downtown Banff so you can easily walk to all the bars and restaurants. It is also next to a stop for the Big 3 shuttle out to the ski hills, and as someone who was in Banff to ski this was important for me. The front desk staff are very friendly and helpful. They checked me in quickly and had no trouble answering all my questions. The room was very spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and I always got a good night's sleep. There was a lack of counter space in the bathroom which was a little annoying but that was my one beef with the room. Noise levels were about average for a hotel. They weren't the best but they weren't the worst either. This was definitely a great place to stay in Banff and I'm glad I found it. read more

Elk + Avenue is a sleek, beautiful and modern hotel but it was lacking functionality. Sometimes design can be a little too much and that is how we felt here. PROS: - Great location - Comfy bed - Sophisticated decor for Christmas - Friendly, helpful staff upon entering CONS: - Bar was pricer than other spots we visited - Tiny rooms - Rooms felt a little *too modern* dare I say it. Some of the decor didn't make sense like putting a little lantern on a stool, I get it - it looks nice, but we need the stool. Also no room for luggage. The luggage rack was behind the sitting chair, we basically had to rearrange our room when we got there to make things fit and make sense. - Problems with the windows opening and closing - The heat was blaring and there was no way to stop it. In the dead of winter we had both windows open when we went to dinner, came back and it was still outrageously hot despite us turning the thermostat off. Overall, our stay was filled with little annoyances that piled up to make our stay uncomfortable. If you are dead set on modern, clean decor and that's all you care about - book here. If you care about overall comfort and are staying for a longer period of time I would look elsewhere. read more

After a few days of "roughing it" all around Banff, my husband and I treated ourselves to one night at Elk + Avenue. Check-in went smoothly and we were able to park our car in the private garage. This saved on street parking fees and allowed us to feel more secure. Great, huh? The room was simple, but clean and well decorated with outdoorsy design elements (rustic wood side tables, camping lantern, fur pillow). The shower was so relaxing with white subway tile lined walls, eco-friendly bathing products, and good water pressure. It eased all of our post-hiking aches and pains. Ahhh.... A really convenient part of our stay was being able to leave our car in the garage and take the Banff Gondola shuttle straight from the hotel at no additional cost. The hotel lobby is actually attached to a gift shop with most of the same souvenirs you find at the shop in the lower terminal at the gondola. We had few interactions with the staff, but all were helpful and relatively friendly. Super hotel. Super rooms and Super staff. We walked in on a busy week and they had a room available. Super friendly staff and very comfortable and clean rooms. The location is perfect. It is right at the beginning (end) Of all the shops. So it's super convenient but also not as noisy and crowded out the front door. The rooms do not have a.c. but that isn't a problem in Banff. In the middle of summer, just open a window and turn on the fan. The room got too cold and we had to turn the ceiling fan down and close the window a bit. Sleeping with an open window is something most people don't get the privilege of doing in a city . Staff was super accommodating. There is a tourist reservation down just outside the lobby that is great for helping to plan your time in Banff. There is a bar, restaraunt and bakery downstairs too. Definitely was not worth the $500 a night we paid. The room was probably the smallest hotel room I've ever stayed in. It was nice and clean though and the bed was comfortable. The lighting was nice too with a wavy over the bed light fixture on the wall on a dimmer. Everything about the room was nice, just not exceptional to justify the price. I would recommend booking accommodation early when planning on staying in Banff so you don't run into this issue. They offer underground secure parking which was good. For the price, you'd expect a complimentary breakfast, which there was not. There is a Good Earth coffeehouse attached to the hotel which is where we purchased a pricey coffee and breakfast. We didn't have time to explore the hotel much but there is a pool and hot tub open until 10. The location is good and walking distance to the city centre. read more

We stayed at the Elk +Avenue Hotel on July 7 & 8, 2018. It was 85+ F those 2 days. This hotel had no air conditioning in the guest rooms. It was finally installed on July 10th. How long have these greedy owners been ripping off tourists by not providing a basic necessity for a hotel room? Go somewhere else and reward owners who care for their guests; not these people. read more

Elk+Avenue is on the corner of Elk St and Banff Ave, situated in the heart of downtown Banff and conveniently accessible (walking distance) to shops, restaurants, cafes, and right across the grocery store (score!) with views of snow-capped mountains. We stayed here for a short trip early December 2017 and completely loved our experience. It has well-thought out room amenities: charging station for devices, 2 sets of earplugs (the only downside I feel is the walls are a bit thin and you can hear noises especially if the room next door is loud. But I don't think it was that big of a deal to deter from our experience. The hotel was quiet by 10pm-7am), a Keurig inside the room (instead of a regular pot), and a pretty damn good Wifi connection. I had to write a paper on google doc and constantly need Wifi, and I didn't have any problems with the internet connection no matter what time of day. The hotel itself and the room has a mid-century feel to it, and since we went on December it was very festive with the lights and holiday decor as well. The hotel grounds was very clean and well-managed. Next to the lobby is a gift shop where you can also purchase tickets to activities in Banff and adjacent towns. They also have the Good Earth Coffeehouse in the same building, which was really accessible (I can't comment on the coffeehouse, hotel restaurant, or food served in the hotel as I didn't partake. There were a lot of cafes and restaurants that lined Banff Ave that we chose to eat there instead). The hotel is a short walking distance to the bus stop, and a mere 10-minute ride up to the gondola. We were on the third floor with 2 queen beds with a loft, and it was very spacious indeed. I liked how the beds were upstairs and a living area+dining area downstairs; and we made use of the space for the entire weekend. There were 2 flat-screen TVs (living area and bedroom) which we didn't really take advantage; the bathroom was spacious as well and there was hot/cold water continuously. The queen beds were comfortable; pillows abound and it was pretty warm. It didn't get that cold inside the room even if it was 30 degrees outside; and I saw floor fans and ceiling fans as well (we didn't need to use them. Perhaps for the summer?). By the way, they give you a $5 voucher at their restaurant (Ricky's) if you choose to "make a green choice" and not have housekeeping service for the day (we didn't need a change of towels or anything like that because we were only their for a short time)-- that was a nice surprise. The staff were also very warm and accommodating (we had late checkout at 1pm). I was pleasantly surprised at the experience. I will definitely stay here again! read more

The front desk staff is extremely rude. When I was checking out I noticed an error on the bill, of over $400.00! The girl would not go over the bill at all, was extremely rude and would not even consider there was an error. This was eventually corrected with a phone call. It's a small thing but she also would not throw out a disposable coffee cup for us and we had to find a trash can in the lobby. Also the hotel charged my credit card a "hold" upon checkin. This was more than the amount of the stay. Upon checkout there was a charge to my card for the stay in addition to the hold (to the tune of almost $2,000.00) not to mention the extra $400 my friend paid at checkout. At one point a two night stay at this property cost $2,000.00. I could stay at the Banff Springs for this price. The management was rude while dealing with them to correct the above errors. I eventually did get all the overages back but it took a number of phone calls. The room was clean enough but the walls are extremely thin and we could hear the ladies in the room beside us all weekend and anyone getting on or off the elevator. The paint was peeling on the shower ceiling exposing floor boards above. I would NOT stay at this property again and would advise others not to as well. So we were looking for a place to stay in Banff while we were able to spend our time in the mountains and enjoying the quaint shops and restaurants of Banff. Great location near everything!! I was super pleased with how nice the lobby and hotel grounds were. The cafe downstairs was pretty good for our first night as dinner (we were super jet lagged and tired to venture far). Drinks were also priced fairly there which I was surprised. The front desk was pretty helpful, although busy. Our room's location was odd because it was on a different level from an elevator, so we had to take two different elevators, and then stairs to that floor. That threw us off a bit. If you are physically disabled or don't do well with stairs, you might want to check you don't have that section. However, the room was super bright, clean and comfortable. Large room with a nice view of the mountains (we were above the bus stop though so a little loud at times). I loved that we could open the windows and get some of the nice breeze through the screens. The woodsy/modern decor was really nice throughout. The bathroom was very spacious, loved the shower & water pressure! Our sliding glass door didn't close all the way which made it slightly breezy showering. The bed was large and comfy and the mini fridge, kettle & coffee maker were very convenient. We were sad to learn that the hot tub was out of order during our visit though. read more
