The Northside Trail doesn't look like much for significant portions of its 3-mile-long route, but…read moreit's an easy trail without much elevation change; and if you enjoy being right next to the Saint Joe River like I do, especially in summer and winter, then this is the place to be. From its southern end, the trail runs from the Mishawaka border (where Logan Street crosses the river) to Howard Park (near where South Saint Louis Boulevard turns into Northside Boulevard). I believe there's free parking at Howard Park, but there should be plenty of parking in the neighborhoods all along the trail, and there are a few scattered picnic tables in the park immediately south of Howard Park and in Veterans Memorial Park, which sits at about the midway point of the trail. The trail generally lies between Northside Boulevard and the river itself, although a portion of it near the southern end is just the sidewalk on the north side of Northside Boulevard with no view of the river to speak of. I even like this part, though, because the houses are so different from one another, and some nice newer ones even looked abandoned in a spooky though not decrepit way. My favorite parts are near IUSB, where you can use the IUSB Bike Path to cross the river (such a cool little bridge) and then cross back at South Ironwood Drive, or vice versa. I also want to check out the Northside Boulevard Riverwall, which is a Works Progress Administration-era project that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Northside_Boulevard_Riverwall). Played here a time or two, and man....they…read morehave I think one cheap-ass beer on tap, a few smatterings of different stuff in the coolers, a bar in a big empty room, and an adjoining area where bands play in what looks like a VFW hall. Not my favorite, sound is not so good. The booze selection is what a liquor store looks like in a riot, and the bathroom was pretty vile as I recall. There's good rock dives, and good dives, and this is neither. That said, if you wanna see a cheap-ass punk rock show and get loaded this is probably as good a place as any to do so.

Yes, a portion of the ceiling did collapse just in front of the sound table during a show last…read morenight. Even so, it's a good space for a fun show with no real building frills.

As for me I started following University of Notre Dame when I got married in the 1970's. My father+in-law was a Notre Dame fan and the game was always on if we were visiting. He made watching Notre Dame fun just because of his personality. About ten years into knowing my father-in-law I found an old black and white photo of him wearing the OLD style leather football helmet. He shared with my children and I that after serving in the military during World War I he attended Notre Dame and played football. He didn't brag about himself or his team but he did tell us the years. It was 1920 and 1921. After that he transferred to Gonzaga but didn't play football there. So to this day because of family ties I follow Notre Dame and cheer them on despite my father-in-law being deceased. Recently I was researching Notre Dame for team rosters and photos. I learned that in 1920 their record was 9- 0 as an Independent University. They were named National Champions for that year. Now I have further insight into my father-in-law's cheering of Notre Dame. I don't care if Notre Dame is having a good year or not, family ties have led me to follow Notre Dame University football. Go Fightin' Irish!

Notre Dame football has been a part of my life since I was born. My father wanted a boy and he got…read moreme. His favorite college football team was Notre Dame and I was in front of the TV with him every game. It's no wonder I'm into sports. Flash forward to my daughter who was the musical type. That didn't stop my father from trying to make her like me. He failed but he would have been proud. She applied to Notre Dame and was accepted. The amazing thing is that her acceptance letter was postmarked my father's birthday date. So all that being said I reaped the rewards of four years of college attending football games. I'm still a huge fan and very excited this year. As with any sport there's highs and lows. We have a great coach and the games are so exciting to watch. If you ever get to attend a game either at the home stadium or away, I highly recommend.
