You could start here and bike or hike 20 miles or less depending on your fitness level. Trail is well paved for both walking, hiking and biking with seating along the route for breaks. There doesn't seem to be a clear spot to park at this entry point but it's a city type area so street parking can very likely be found. There are spots to eat in this immediate area to reward yourself after a vigorous walk or bike.

Last Saturday I came to High Point State Park with a hiking group called hiking with friends. It…read morewas my first time visiting High Point State Park. It was $10 for admission into the state park. Luckily the $10 wasn't per person but per vehicle. We hiked the Monument trail to the High Point Monument which is a 220-foot stone obelisk honoring New Jersey's war veterans, located at the state's highest elevation within High Point State Park. The monument trail was moderately challenging in terms of the path being a rocky trail and plenty of mini hills. During the hike it wasn't very scenic until we made it to the area of the monument. If you don't want to hike to the monument, there is also an option to drive your car up to the monument. Once we made it to High Point monument we decided to climb the 200 foot obelisk. I believe it is 291 steps to the top. So it was a bit exhausting to do after a hike but a few of us decided to take the challenge. There were some nice views from the top as well. Overall, I definitely recommend high point State Park. I also love that there are public restrooms and no porta potties. One thing to note is that the park enforces a carry-in, carry-out policy, meaning visitors must take all their trash and recycling with them when they leave. I did not see any trash cans at the state park so the policy makes sense.

I visited during the first weekend of January with my girlfriend and spent two nights at the High Point Mountain Motel just outside the park boundaries. We first visited the park headquarters where we were able to get information and maps, then we did the 3.5 mile Monument Trail. The following morning we did a longer hike, a portion of the Iris Trail and then looped back on a section of the Appalachian Trail, the famed trail that goes from Georgia all the way to Maine. Both hikes provided beautiful views, were moderately challenging, and because it was 25 degrees in January, we had the woods almost entirely to ourselves for the duration of both hikes. We loved our time in this park and definitely want to come back in warmer weather to camp at one of the campgrounds and do more hiking.

At 1803 feet, it has the highest Atlantic white cedar swamp population in the world. It is also the highest point in New Jersey at 1803 feet above sea level. From the top of the monument which was built by the Kusers to honor all of New Jersey's war veterans, you can see the Pocono Plateau (Pa.), Port Jervis (NY), Catskill foothills (NY) and Sussex farmlands (NJ). IFrom Memorial day to Labor Day the cost is $10 per vehicle during the week and $20 on the weekends and holidays. After Labor Day and before Memorial Day it is free. The monument has been refurbished relatively recently. . The spiral staircase is physically challenging and if you fear heights it could be a problem. The stairs can be damp if not outright wet. Cross country skiing, snow shoeing, snowmobiling are available through a private contractor. Some people dog sled. There are 10 miles of trails. Ice fishing and other types of fishing require a NJ license as does hunting for deer and bear. Hunting is done in limited areas of the park. Boating on lakes Sawmill and Steenykill requires an electric motor or the old fashion paddle. Lake Marcia has lifeguards, great restrooms and changing facilities. There are camp areas, picnic BBQ grills at the park headquarters and an Interpretive center with displays. Get a map because the trails can be tricky, Some people horseback ride. Bring Deep Woods Off there are ticks. And do not bring alcohol, it is prohibited. There are concession stands open during the season and restaurants on Route 23, Port Jervis, etc..

Excellent and quaint waterfront area open to residents of Greenwood Lake & surrounding towns. It…read morewas very peaceful when I visited on a weekday with barely anybody in sight other than a few employees and lifeguards. The parking lot has plenty of spaces. There is a small stage set up for special events and music performances. There is a pathway to the left that leads up to a gazebo and offers incredible views of Greenwood Lake & the shoreline. There is a modestly small sized beach area manned with 2 lifeguards on duty. There's plenty of picnic tables to have some food while taking in lake views or the surrounding mountains. There's also a swing set available in the open green area adjacent to the parking lot. It's definitely a cute and peaceful spot worth visiting in Greenwood Lake and excellent for some photo opportunities.
