It's off the beaten path but super easy to find. And the place is gorgeous! You feel like you're far away from any city and the views are breathtaking. The owners set a door code for you that opens the front door and your room. A welcome book details everything you need to know about the house and the area. Everything is very user friendly. The kitchen is stocked with snacks, coffee, sodas and water with room to refrigerate or prepare anything else you would like. The bedrooms are spacious and comfy. They have everything you might need for your stay. The owners invite you to share their second story patio and you can't beat the company or the views. We called both Expedia and the hotel to cancel - we were told there was no cancellation option and would be charged the full amount. I explained I had COVID and a doctor's letter and medication proof. Both blamed the other and neither would listen to us. I offered that we would still be going to Tucson for a rescheduled appointment with the surgeons if we could have a credit or discount. Both were denied - and both blamed the other. We were also told by both that I would be called back after explaining my situation. Neither called back!!! No one cared that I was sick with COVID and had proof - nor that we were going - and would go back again and again for my disabled veteran husband's medical care. NO ONE WITH EITHER GROUP CARES! they both stated they received their payment - and that was the end. I will not be using Expedia or A Lodge on the Desert ever - unwilling to use businesses that are so crass and uncaring - not alone going beyond the usual limits where cancellations are usually allowed within that length of time!!! so so so disappointed. Seriously, this lodge, located several miles west of Las Cruces, is the creation of a very creative woman who has obviously added and added to whatever was the original building. If it was located in some parts of Europe it would probably be dubbed a "folly," as it is very hard to figure out the rhyme or reason for some of the add ons. There are several guest rooms, all reasonably priced, and all with equipped kitchens. Each room and the common areas are stuffed with "stuff" - from where I sit on my bed I see two antique oil lamps, many baskets, several carvings of swordfish (?), a native basket and some pottery, several prints of western art, a TV fastened to the wall and sticking into the area you walk past to get to the kitchen two desks, a large dresser, a basket of dusty artificial flowers, a table and two chairs, a creaky ceiling fan, a couple of table lamps, a large sofa bed, and some other stuff. None of it is coordinated or matches. Once you get used to it, it's kind of messy/comfortable. The bed is very reactive - if one person sneezes, the other bounces off the mattress. (As a previous reviewer mentioned, the owner had forgotten we were coming but fortunately our room was not locked so we made ourselves at home.) There are lots of patios, covered and uncovered, all with well aged tables and chairs. On the outdoor patio nearest our room is an old wooden cabinet stocked with dust encrusted wine glasses, reminding one of Miss Haversham's abode. There is a huge library of the owner's books ranging from fiction to serious chemistry texts. Beside the house is a large event patio, with a kitchen, a faded shuffleboard court, what looks like it might be a dance floor, and several tables sitting around the edges looking lonesome. Which is probably why the sign at the door says"lodging and parties." Really, it has to be experienced to be believed. One couple we met comes here every spring from Michigan and stays for a month - and when you sit out on the deck at night watching the lights come on in the city, or in the morning watching the sun shine on the Organ Mountains, you can actually understand. Accommodation is very inexpensive for the area. And, to be fair, the German Shepherds are loud and aggressive but always located behind fences or doors. It's just that the notes from the owner warning you that they will bite are more than a little disconcerting. PS no credit cards, but personal checks are accepted with no questions or ID required.

I honestly had no idea what to expect from…read morethe Pelham House; I had obliged to be the DD for several of my parents' friends for their Christmas dinner; a quaint little adobe home from the outside, this "bed and breakfast" location is absolutely stunning and gorgeous (especially by NM standards). There is the magazine, "Ventanas," which typically highlights several beautiful homes around the southwest (reminds me of the national equivalent, "Frontgate," on a much lesser scale). Decorated for the Christmas season, the Pelham House would have every right to be featured in Ventanas with its cozy and impressive interior decorating (I'll upload some pictures later). Every little ornate detail in the house was executed to near perfection. I wanted to take home all of the glassware/stemware! The decorating in the house is among the best I've ever seen anywhere. In addition to this, the rooms throughout the house are definitely worth the visit. There is a large atrium in the very center of the home, capable of seating many patrons. I saw two different bedrooms, each with their own southwestern flair. There is also a game room and, of course, a cozy den! Since we came for just dinner, our stay lasted approximately 3 hours. TIP: Bring your own booze. They do not have a liquor license, but they are apparently allowed to serve a "Welcome drink." While I had some particularly delicious iced tea all night, our friends were greeted with a nice holiday cocktail-- I was told that last time they were served some tasty bellinis. Carol and Robert were exceedingly hospitable-- Carol acted as our waitress for the night and we were always attended to and had everything we needed. In addition, CC is a very talented chef. We were also welcomed with an hors' d'oeuvre consisting of a delectable baked wheel of Brie, accompanied by sliced mushrooms, whole jalapenos, slices of bread, and a clove of garlic. I could not get enough of this! I may or may not have spoiled some of my dinner with eating such copious amounts of this delicious starter... We started our 4-course dinner with a must-have soup: southwestern corn chowder. A perfect level of spicy kick balanced with the sweet corn made for a true winner. We followed this wish a refreshing salad served on a frozen plate (I love little details like this). The salad was dressed in a champagne raspberry vinaigrette with a dash of honey. Also a winner! The main course consisted of sliced pieces of tender pork, red-skin mashed potatoes, and cubed roasted butternut squash. Overall, a good dish. Dessert was a Mexican chocolate cake complete with a heavy amount of homemade candy-cane ice cream. For everything, the total came to ~$53 per person. I found this to be very reasonable as the food was far above average and the ambiance of the home is perfect. Why 4 stars and not 5? Well, the friend of ours that coordinated the whole dinner had specifically requested two of the dishes had to have chicken as the entree (they cannot eat pork/red meat). All of the dishes came out, and there was no chicken to be found. Our friend had told us that she specifically mentioned this on the phone more than once. TIP: Get it in writing via email. Bottom line? Downright gorgeous venue, fantastic homemade food, and a delightful ambiance that will encourage you to want to come back for more.

I booked directly through the IHG website and received a confirmation email and reservation number. However, when I arrived to check in yesterday, the hotel manager informed me that my reservation had been canceled. I never received any cancellation email, phone call, or other notification. My reservation still appeared active on my end, and I had the confirmation details, yet the hotel said it could not accommodate me because it was fully booked. As a military family in the middle of a PCS move with two young children, this created a significant hardship. We were relying on staying on post to avoid extra travel costs and logistical challenges during an already stressful move. Learning on the day of check-in that we had no room was extremely frustrating. When I asked about a resolution and raised concerns that this could affect other guests, the manager said others had experienced the same issue and were directed to find lodging in Las Cruces. He advised me to contact IHG corporate because nothing could be done at the property level. My main concern is the lack of communication. If my reservation was canceled, why was I never notified? A confirmation email and reservation number should give guests confidence that their booking is secure. My advice to future travelers: even if you book directly through IHG and receive a confirmation email, call the hotel before arrival to verify your reservation. Unfortunately, a confirmation email alone may not be enough.
