You can leave this campground anytime (insert boomer Hotel California Dad joke here), but you can't get back in. How do they accomplish this? The road into the campground is gated. The gate is locked on one side (driver's right) and the other side is open, BUT it has those one-way spikes like the rental car agencies have. This is brutal. We were here trying to do rock climbs in the Organs and we had to SPEED back into the campground to not miss the 6pm cutoff. It made it impossible to enjoy the lovely eateries and breweries in Las Cruces so...we chose not to sleep here for multiple nights and just leave our tent setup. Having said all that, this campground is immaculate. It's one of the nicest public campgrounds I've stayed at. Every site has a fire ring, a grill, a picnic table WITH a minipavillion, and a flat area to pitch a tent. To top it all off, it's only $7 a night and has amazing views of the Organ mountains! My guess is that this area has problems with rampant vandalism (many of the Organ mountain trailheads are also locked from 8am to 6pm) and is maybe understaffed, so this is their solution to the issues. If you go to bed early and are really good at cooking in a campground, this is the spot for you. If you're the type of person that likes big days in the mountains followed by hiking out by headlamp followed by crispy brews in town...look elsewhere.

This is the closest campground I found near White Sands; it was about a 40 minute drive. The stars were beautiful. Make sure to bring exactly $7 cash as you deposit it into the box to get a permit. There were picnic tables and grills for each campsite. We had a nearby garbage bin. The vault toilets were surprisingly very, very clean. The Pine Loop Trail was a lovely four-mile hike that starts right by the campground. It takes you up into the mountains, and it took us about two hours to complete. There were many false trails that weren't marked. It's rated as moderate, although I think it was more challenging.

There are a couple of things you will want to know if you find this the same way I did. First, note that the map/directions that this yelp site gives you will NOT take you to the campground (it takes you to what must be a BLM office in Las Cruces). UPDATE: I submitted the correct address (Aguirre Springs Road) to Yelp. If that is the address that shows up, it is correct. The Marquess Street address is the incorrect one. These are the directions copied and pasted from the Aguirre Spring website: Location / Access The Aguirre Spring Campground is located on the east side of Organ Mountains, east of Las Cruces in Dona Ana County. Take U.S. 70 for 14 miles east of the I-25/U.S. 70 interchange in Las Cruces, then turn south on the Aguirre Spring Road (1.1 miles after San Augustine Pass) for six miles. At mile 4 the road becomes a one-way loop and climbs steeply. Next thing to note is that the only facilities are toilets. They were clean and well kept. These restrooms do not have sinks or mirrors. There are no showers and there is no water at the campsites. You can fill up your water containers at the campground host's site which is right on Aguirre Spring Road as you start driving in. The sites have picnic tables and grills and some have fire pits. There is a loop of campsites that are off to the right of the camping pay station. Those sites are pretty close together, and there were several families camped up there, but they are right at the base of those gorgeous rock mountains. I bypassed this loop and drove down the road a little further and camped in a spot on the left a little ways passed the hiking trail (which is on the right). I loved my spot. I pitched the tent under shady tree. A restroom was close-by. I went for a trail run/hike the following morning. A very well spent $3!

We nicknamed her "Ms. Sparkle" because she literally sparkled--cheerful, genuinely happy to help with anything, and radiating the kind of warmth and energy that makes you feel welcome. She responded promptly and effectively to every request. Madi absolutely deserves five stars. Hotel Encanto is a solid choice, but if you stay here, ask for Madi at the front desk. Her exceptional service transforms a decent hotel stay into a memorable one. We'll definitely return.

Hotel Encanto, I think it's time for a MAJOR deep clean!!!!! The carpets are FILTHY!!!!!!! , but the worst part was the pillows. They smelled so strongly of dirty scalp that it was honestly disgusting and made it hard to even want to lay your head down. Every single electrical outlet in our room was so loose that you could barely keep anything plugged in. On top of that, there are hardly any outlets available. You basically have to choose: use the lamp, charge your phone, or curl your hair. Pick one! It's disappointing because we have stayed here many times and genuinely liked this hotel. But when basic things like clean pillows, clean carpets, and working electrical outlets are an issue, it really changes the entire experience. Hotel Encanto has so much potential and a beautiful Southwestern charm, but it desperately needs some attention. After being repeat guests for so long, it's sad to say that this stay may very well be our last.

It's off the beaten path but super easy to find. And the place is gorgeous! You feel like you're far away from any city and the views are breathtaking. The owners set a door code for you that opens the front door and your room. A welcome book details everything you need to know about the house and the area. Everything is very user friendly. The kitchen is stocked with snacks, coffee, sodas and water with room to refrigerate or prepare anything else you would like. The bedrooms are spacious and comfy. They have everything you might need for your stay. The owners invite you to share their second story patio and you can't beat the company or the views. This place makes you feel at home away from home. We will be back on every single visit!!

BLUF: My confirmed IHG reservation was canceled without any notification, leaving my military…read morefamily without lodging at check-in during a PCS move and causing significant hardship. I booked directly through the IHG website and received a confirmation email and reservation number. However, when I arrived to check in yesterday, the hotel manager informed me that my reservation had been canceled. I never received any cancellation email, phone call, or other notification. My reservation still appeared active on my end, and I had the confirmation details, yet the hotel said it could not accommodate me because it was fully booked. As a military family in the middle of a PCS move with two young children, this created a significant hardship. We were relying on staying on post to avoid extra travel costs and logistical challenges during an already stressful move. Learning on the day of check-in that we had no room was extremely frustrating. When I asked about a resolution and raised concerns that this could affect other guests, the manager said others had experienced the same issue and were directed to find lodging in Las Cruces. He advised me to contact IHG corporate because nothing could be done at the property level. My main concern is the lack of communication. If my reservation was canceled, why was I never notified? A confirmation email and reservation number should give guests confidence that their booking is secure. My advice to future travelers: even if you book directly through IHG and receive a confirmation email, call the hotel before arrival to verify your reservation. Unfortunately, a confirmation email alone may not be enough.
