Entrée Vous Denison Library: and you're in my dream. Since I was a little Janine I have dreamed of such a fairytale library built of stone, beautiful woods, high arched ceilings, and stained glass. Ella Strong Denison helped make my dream come true, when she presented Denison library with the 21 vibrant stained glass windows on the balcony and lower floor in 1939, eight years after the library's inception. Walking into the main reading room, one is greeted by a real, true fireplace. Absolute deliciousity and warmth, yes, yes. Like anything worth its weight, Denison is not only aesthetically beautiful, but also beautiful for her content. She houses very rare Aubrey Beardsley, TS Eliot, and Gertrude Stein collections. Listed in her card catalog there are over 1,000 recordings on vinyl and cassette of amazing stuff--some stuff that is not available anywhere else: spoken word, poetry, theater, prose, etc. These include things from TS Eliot and old Gertrude herself. These materials can be checked out!! Some standouts I remember are Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats (read aloud by the master himself) and Gertrude Stein doing a poetry reading, both on vinyl. Can one get a card if one is not at one of the 5Cs? Yes one can, it's just really expensive if one does not live in Claremont or is not a student. The library is open to all researchers. This library has many small nookish areas for you to be alone in, including an entire sunken study room with wall-to-wall bookcases done in deep woods dedicated to women's studies. Denison, you are but a dream (come true) to me!

This is where I go to work when I want to feel smart. And be in a beautiful space. And get stuff done.

Beautiful little library with excellent public study space, a vast collection of rare books, and even a cosy couch.

Worked from this library and it was really nice! It's a little bit older but they have so much…read morestuff and it's well organized. I wanted to visit a friend in town and decided to work from here for a few hours as to avoid traffic. It's a great space to work from, there's plenty of seating and outlets for your electronics. I sat by the window and there were outlets at the base and they looked a little older, but they work. I decided to get a library card and Sophia helped me out and she was so spunky and nice and she called me friend, it was a really pleasant experience! She also explained to me the different benefits of the card like checking stuff out from the library of things and logging onto the cloud app to access E-books and/or audio books. They also have crochet & knitting meet-up here. Parking was easy and located behind the library.

I was about to start writing a fresh Yelp review for the Ovitt Family Community Library when I…read morediscovered, to my great surprise, that I'd written one before, just over a decade ago. I guess I've been to this library twice now, and am also getting old. I visited this time around because my book was the One Book, One Ontario pick for 2025. It was a huge honor to have my book selected, and I was very happy to participate in the author event last month and meet so many lovely, thoughtful readers. Librarian Starla Villalba did a wonderful job both organizing and moderating the event. She also decked out the main entryway of the library with displays themed around my book, all designed to engage community members. I love libraries and love to see them thriving due to the hard work of passionate librarians. The Ovitt Family Commmunity Library is a valuable resource for the people of Ontario. I live a little far away, but life is long, I'm sure I'll be back again someday.
