    Library card
    Mabel G.

First time at this library which is in the city hall plaza. It is across the street from Bonita High School. I signed up for a free library card. They have three library card faces to choose from. They have a large children's book area with a hanging dragon overhead. The books are all neatly displayed or shelves away. The library has an information desk to obtain book inquiries and the library is able to do inter library loans to obtain books from other LA county libraries. they told me it would take me a week. You have to wear facial covering indoors as they follow covid precautions and they have sanitizers located around the facility.

We enjoy coming to this library often! They have sanitary wipes for everyone to use, and they also have a section specifically for new books. There are also 4 computers for children to use with a 20-minute time limit for each session. I like this because kids don't end up staring at the screen for long periods of time and it lets other children have a chance to use it as well. The restrooms are older, but clean. Just like any other LA County library, there are up to 10 pages of free printing per day. My kids like printing coloring pages here and sit at the tables to read and color. The staff are also pretty friendly. I signed up my kids to have their own library card, and sometimes the librarian would give them a small sticker. During the pandemic, they gave little activity kits in paper bags for kids to go home and create. From time to time, they would have promotions where children read a certain number of books and get a gift card to In N Out for a burger. I love how they promote literacy for people of all ages.

I love that we don't have to worry as much about disturbing other older patrons who are here to enjoy the quiet as this section seems to appeal to younger guests. My favorite feature are the lovely green bench style seats for the kiddie computers. There are also a lot more workstations/computers than compared to the La. Verne and San Dimas libraries. The surrounding area can get quite busy on the weekends, but there is a parking lot for library visitors.

I realized the things I could do on the laptop was more than I can achieve on the cellphone. So I saved to buy me a used laptop, to find out I forgot how to use the laptop. I just needed the basic. No one had time for a senior with computer and cellphone issues at home. I decided to go to the library. They helped me. Even when they had employee change, the new one would take up where the one before left off. It just had one stiff neck. A female. The last one but she didn't spoil the day. There were to many before her that paved the way in beautiful light. Yes, LA County Library in Claremont is the best. At least to me.

I wanted to visit a friend in town and decided to work from here for a few hours as to avoid traffic. It's a great space to work from, there's plenty of seating and outlets for your electronics. I sat by the window and there were outlets at the base and they looked a little older, but they work. I decided to get a library card and Sophia helped me out and she was so spunky and nice and she called me friend, it was a really pleasant experience! She also explained to me the different benefits of the card like checking stuff out from the library of things and logging onto the cloud app to access E-books and/or audio books. They also have crochet & knitting meet-up here. Parking was easy and located behind the library.

I guess I've been to this library twice now, and am also getting old. I visited this time around because my book was the One Book, One Ontario pick for 2025. It was a huge honor to have my book selected, and I was very happy to participate in the author event last month and meet so many lovely, thoughtful readers. Librarian Starla Villalba did a wonderful job both organizing and moderating the event. She also decked out the main entryway of the library with displays themed around my book, all designed to engage community members. I love libraries and love to see them thriving due to the hard work of passionate librarians. The Ovitt Family Commmunity Library is a valuable resource for the people of Ontario. I live a little far away, but life is long, I'm sure I'll be back again someday.
