I bought a really nice futon from Ellen's Futon Store a little over a year ago and I find it to be very attractive and functional. About three months ago I noticed that the bottom right side of the futon has moved apart from where it should be. I have just left my fourth message without any return calls. I have said in all of my messages that there's a problem with the futon, and briefly described it. The warranty requests that customers deal directly with the retailer. Wouldn't that be nice? In that fourth message, I said if I don't hear back I'm going to have to come to the store. Buyer beware! One last thing. No one told me that in order to make the futon fold out to become a complete bed, it has to be moved away from the wall. That's a big problem for me being a real lightweight and I have a bad back as well. It would have been reasonable (?), if they had mentioned that. read more

Remember college? Remember that old Ikea futon in the group house in junior year? The one in the back room where "guests" could crash? The one with the stained and stinky mattress that has seen more bodily fluids then a public restroom? Yeah, you shudder now, but you didn't even think twice back in the day. Heh. Well, futons have evidently grown up. We were looking for a futon for the office in our new home - and we definitely didn't want one like what we had in college. We wandered into Ellens Futons and was pleasantly surprised! The store is small, but in that small space a *ton* of futons are available...and all looked like lovely and solid sofas - not a single rickity peice of wood or cheap aluminum frame could be found! The mattresses with thick and plush, and there was a lovely variety of fabrics to chose from. All this is great, but what truely impressed me was the sales guy. He was the only one in the store, and somehow, he was able to help all 5 customers at the same time! We never felt rushed, we never felt like he was ignoring us or dividing his attention - yet, everytime we turned around he was answering a question or doing a demo. Very impressive! Awesome place. Needed a futon and went in to look. The salespeople are not pushy. They actually are informative and try to find out what it is you want. No pressure to buy. I purchased a futon. They were cool about allowing me a few days to pick it up (since I didn't have a car that could transport it). When I brought it home, I had one tiny issue with it. The sofa bed in the guest+granddaughter's room was so old, and even though it was structurally sound, it needed to be replaced. Husband and granddaughter (H and GD)were out and about near Ellen's Futons so I suggested they do a little advance work and get an estimate of the cost of a new futon and mattress. I was surprised at how reasonable the prices were, no more than Ikea's most expensive sofa beds, so what the heck, let them pick out the futon. With some text photos from them and phone advice from me they made their selection and arranged for delivery at a time convenient for us. A few days later husband I went back to pick up a few extra items like a waterproof mattress pad and a slip resistant under pad. When I went into the store to pick up the extras I was amazed at the quality of the furniture. Beautiful, solid pieces of wood furniture plus the wall of various covers in deep, rich colors--wow. And I really liked what H and GD had picked out, a frame with a little storage for remotes or whatever in the arms, and magazine racks on each side. Our salesperson, Sherri, was helpful and based on the use of the futon, weekly GD visits and guests once or twice a year, steered us to a mattress that was in the mid range of firmness and price. We scheduled delivery with a timeframe of 9:00-1:00. A little after 11:00 the phone rang and our friendly delivery man from Groundnear said he had tire problems, but help was on the way and he'd be there as soon as possible. He called back at 12:20 to say he was on his way and he arrived well within the 9-1:00 timeframe. So nice that he called! He insisted on bringing the futon boxes in by himself, despite husband's offer to help, and within 20 minutes he had the futon assembled and ready to go. read more

I have had my old futon mattress for over ten years and what was once a very comphy bed for me has turned into a bumpy and thin mattress for guests. I was a little hesitant to get another futon instead of a sofa bed, but it fits the space better. I walked in and a very nice man helped me identify the type of futon I needed. He suggested I look at the three cheapest items (all under what I was expecting to pay walking in) and I liked the basic futon without springs in it. He loaded it into my car and here it is at home. We were just "looking" to see what was available as far as futons were concerned. We had a few features that we wanted and were not looking to buy. Well that all changed when we met Sean. He didn't try to hard sell us, he answered our questions and gave us information that we really did think to ask. Very helpful and gave us time to think. We just purchased a second product from the Rockville store. Our first futon was a very solid product and still going after 7 years! At the time we shopped at other places to compare and it was a waste of time. Every other place we went gave a big sales pitch but at Ellen's we got straight answers and solid advice. Now that we need an additional futon/sofa we went straight to Ellen's and got the same good advice and found just what we needed. I think you get the best product and service for your time and money. When I moved back from Boston I had to downsize the guest bed from a queen bed to a full. I opted for a futon to make the guest room multi-use. Sean (the sales person/owner) took his time explaining the differences in the various futons, never rushed my husband and I, provided us with different pricing options. If there's a zero star, I would put it in. I hated this store. They have an arrogant salesperson who blamed me for buying a wrong size futon. They also have a horrible return and exchange policy. after ordering a bad and ridiculous futon, they won't let me return it. It happened within an hour after it was delivered and assembled by their guy. After arguing with the salesperson, he said he can replace the futon to a sofa bed and I will have to pay extra $$$ dollars (the sofa bed is cheaper than the futon). Due to desperation of getting rid of the futon, i said yes. I was angry to see that the sofa bed doesn't look brand new, it looks like it was a return! What a great experience. I was going in not expecting much as the store was extremely small. But wow was I wrong. The store has a huge selection of quality futons that are reasonably priced. The salesman "Sean" was extremely knowledgeable and offered great customer service. He went above and beyond to gain my business.
