An impromptu visit resulted in two perfectly paired carpet runners for my hallway. Kami, the owner, was kind and helpful. We got fabulous service from Jose, Klisma and the other folks at ABC. The first time I went in, hubby was under the weather so I went alone. They moved every 8x10 rug in the stack so I could look at them and take pictures for him. There were *a lot* of rugs. They also offered to make an appointment to bring over a few our our favorites so we could see how they worked in our space. We did this, and yesterday Jose came out with a few of them and we of course fell in love with two of them and had trouble deciding. He helped us understand the pros and cons of each choice and we eventually made a selection... the darker one that will be less obvious if it gets barfed on by our four bulimic cats. He went back to the shop to custom cut the felt to go under the rug, gave us tips on how to remove cat barf from the rugs (because there will be cat barf, oh yes, there will be.) and then he came back with a helper and they got everything set up under our bed and centered and it looks terrific. These rugs aren't cheap. The two we were deciding between were both about 2k with discounts. (Hubby had a weird moment where he thought, when did we become people who buy $2k rugs???) But I think it will last forever. The one we picked is very thick and plush, quite comfy to walk on barefoot. The cats love it. No barf yet, but I'm sure there will be soon... read more

I bought a rug here for $2700 in 2019 when I lived in Bethesda and was really happy with it...until now. I spilled a little bit of water on the edge last night and when I blotted it with a paper towel, a TON of INK came out. Clearly, they are adding ink to their rugs to improve the color. I had an amazing experience at ABC. I went in looking for a short runner to blend with my other carpets. I was greeted by a young gentleman who immediately started helping me. Than the owner and other staff joined us. They all searched for my rug and came up with exactly what I wanted at a very fair price. It was a very pleasant experience. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. After making the deal we continued to talk and exchange pleasantries. They carried my rug to the car and guided me as I backed out of my parking space. We walked into the store and didn't have a very good idea of where to start other than "something modern-ish." Jose was amazing and a huge help to us in picking out a rug. He and his colleague patiently helped us flip through a bunch of options, laid out our favorites so we could visualize them in different lighting, and then also brought along the rug over to our place for a test run when we were worried that we had chosen one that was too large. Huge selection of all types and styles. Jose took time to uncover mountains of rugs and was extremely patient. My wife found a couple of potentials and he offered to come to our home to actually try each in place. He actually brought a couple of other options which were even better match. Their customer service is exquisite; they have a huge selection of handmade Persian rugs and their pricing is very fair. Recently, the company cleaned my rugs. They came to my home to pick up my rugs and delivered them even sooner than promised. My rugs were beautiful after cleaning and actually sparkled after their service. They took great care in moving the furniture that was sitting atop my rugs and replaced my rugs with great care when they returned them. When my partner and I dropped off our rugs, Kami inspected them closely and provided us with a very reasonable estimate and timeframe to complete the cleaning. One of our rugs was absolutely horrendous, thanks to our dog, but Kami and his team did a great job giving it new life. I gave a polypropylene rug with seemingly indelible incense ash marks on its super colorful surface. Didn't expect stains to vanish even after wash. But khomi and his assistants did an amazing job, the rug looked new just as I had bought it from Amazon, not a hint of any damage due to burns. Amazing. They use the cold wash shampooing formula on synthetic materials which is the best care for this material. The proprietor takes personal interest in rug cleaning and repair and irrespective of quality of the rug. Reasonable cleaning costs too, paid 55$ for a 5x 7" rug. Fully recommend. Bonus is the feast for eyes, mind and soul plus hospitality of Khomi who introduces you to the world of antique magic rugs from all over the world. I LOVE THIS SHOP!! I stumbled across this store a couple of months ago when I decided that I wanted to take adulting to the next level and look for real Oriental rugs to adorn my floors. I started off at another store down the street and was really overwhelmed by the pricing and the huge selection of rugs without much guidance as a new rug shopper. I left discouraged but then saw ABC Rugs as I was driving away and it was a totally different experience. It was cozy and inviting but still had a huge selection of all different types of rugs. I think Kami and his friendly staff showed me every single rug in the shop...and with a smile. I must have been there for 3-4 hours and they offered me chocolate and water, educated me on the the many different types of rugs and how they are made and where. I left that day with two beautiful vintage rugs that were a quarter of the price of what I was quoted for one rug at the previous shop. Kami even threw in an embroidered wall hanging for my nursery. I now have a totally new appreciation for rugs (borderline obsession) and I recently went back with my young daughters who stayed there for over an hour laying on the rugs, making theirselves at home eating treats that Kami offered them and reading books. It's their new favorite place! That day I was able to take a rug home and see how it looked in the space and when it didn't work, I came back with my teenage son to pick up the larger one that I had my eye on and Kami educated my son on the style of rugs that he was drawn to. He engaged him in a way that my son left saying what a cool shop it was and that he would love to own a rug shop like that one day. Kami gave him a really beautiful trinket when we left and a gorgeous tiny rug to go in my daughters playhouse. Generosity and great pricing aside, the atmosphere in this place is a dream come true and I will most likely be frequenting it long after I have anymore room on my floors for these beautiful rugs. I brought my rugs in for a cleaning and repair estimate. I have a fully hand crafted, all vegetable dyed Persian gabbeh made of hand carded and spun wool. It needed some repair of about 4-5 inches of selvage (edge). My others were small flat weaves with 3-4 inch squares cut out of the edges. (My dog did it as a pup.) On the estimate, he labeled my gabbeh as a Tibetan. When I corrected him, he said the design was Tibetan. It's not. The tree of life design is multi-cultural with local interpretations. He showed me the estimate, $950 (too much) but wouldn't give it to me. Another red flag for me was the collection in the shop. The majority of the rugs are machine made foundations--if you look at the stacks, they all look very uniform, ie, no natural variation as with hand made rugs. Also, many rugs look like they have mixed dyes (chemical and vegetable) or all chemical dyes. (Vegetable dyes won't run and will last for years and years.) All this brings into question the type and quality of materials they would use in repairing my rugs. And as I walked out the door, he asked me what I would pay for the job. I told him half. But in truth, I wouldn't let them do it at all. I'm sorry but this place is not for me. read more
