Went to Elli Mochi on recommendation from a coworker. Wasn't there for quite 3 minutes when I noticed flies (plural) in the donut display case. When I pointed it out to one of the employees, I got a very dirty look so I left. Horrible first impression, which tells me all I need to know about this place. Popped into the shop couple of hours before they close to grab some after dinner sweets and we were not disappointed. Our favorites were the honey butter and maple drizzle, not a big fan of the blueberry or other fruity flavors, just a personal preference, doesn't mean they are not good. Since all of their mochi donuts are delicious and tasted very buttery. $3.5 for a single donut is not cheap, it gets cheaper the more you buy. The young adults working in the shop were efficient, did not see any smiles on their faces but figured it is towards the end of the day already, that tiredness probably caught up to them. The shop looks fairly clean, with casual atmosphere and it is located in one of the small strip malls near old town Ellicott City, parking can get crowded but still have availability. I purchased an Original Half Mozzarella, Half Beef and two donuts, Ube for myself and Oreo for my hubby. They offer different coating for the corndog including: Potato, Cheetos, or Ramen. I will definitely try the Potato or Ramen next time. For the donuts I was narrowing it down to Ube, Oreo, Tiramisu, or Pinkholic. Jae said the Ube is like Taro so I went with that since I like Taro. The donuts were light and chewy on the inside and wonderfully flavorful. The corndog was crunchy on the outside and the cheese was nice and gooey. Delicious all around! Jae took my order and was super friendly and helpful. I asked Jae for a knife and fork to cut the corndog and he kindly asked if I wanted him to cut it into slices, which I said yes to. Shortly thereafter, he asked if I wanted to try the honey garlic sauce, which I vaguely recall him saying they just made. It was a thicker consistency and more sweet compared to a honey garlic sauce typically available at standard Korean BBQ restaurants. First time trying Mochi Donuts and I love how they're a gluten free, rice flour option that isn't greasy and feels lighter (and hopefully healthier). The shop itself is very cute and aesthetically pleasing. I love how they incorporate yellow into their exterior design. Personally, I enjoyed the chewy, mochi texture compared to normal donuts. I also enjoyed the variety of unique flavor options. Honestly, I'm not a donut person, but it was nice trying unique flavors and seeing the hype of mochi donuts. ELLI Mochi I have been wanting to try mochi donuts near where I live since coming back from my trip to Hawaii where these shops are found in abundance. For those who wish to try a lighter, less sweet and lower caloric treat that will still satisfy that sweet tooth, I would highly recommend you try mochi donuts! The main ingredient is made with rice flour so perfect for gluten free restrictions. This shop is a bit hidden in the plaza it is located but worth a visit. The mochi donuts were displayed in an attractive case and there were several flavors to choose from. They are a bit more expensive than a regular donut but the quality of the ingredients comes shining through. They do have a shorter shelf life and it is recommended to eat them on the day of purchase but I placed my donuts in an airtight container and kept them in the refrigerator overnight and they were still delicious to eat the next day. By the way, they also serve corn dogs that come with different coatings along with bubble tea. But I will have to save a review for those treats on another visit. The staff were very helpful and the shop was well lit and clean. They also have a small outdoor area to sit and eat if that is preferred. Parking is easy. read more

A small but bright shop tucked away in EC. It was pretty empty so service was quick, and the employee even brought us our order to the table. I tried the blueberry cream cheese mochi donut. The flavor was good but I didn't get much of a cream cheese flavor. It was soft and chewy as a mochi donut should be, and wasn't oily like some other places I've had it at. My bf got a buldak corn dog and oh boy, it was spicy. Although it was suuuuper spicy and painful after every bite, he couldn't stop eating it. You can either get it with half hot dog half cheese or all cheese. The corn dog is coated with crushed up ramen pieces and doused in the buldak sauce. I wanted to try the ice cream (and thought it would help with the spicy corn dog) so we asked for a sample which wasn't a problem. The soft serve was really good, specifically the mango flavor, so we got a cup. It was a soft sorbet kind of ice cream-- very refreshing and sweet. It paired well with the creamy vanilla flavor. But, I didn't like the vanilla flavor on its own, so I'd only get it as a swirl to complement the mango. The donuts here are really flavorful, especially when fresh. I highly recommend eating the donuts in a day or two, or it will start to feel a little greasy. Fortunately, they are really good, so it probably won't be a problem! The fruit flavors have a real pop to them. We tried the strawberry (pink) and mango ones, and they were really good, especially the latter. We also tried the matcha, cinnamel, and oreo, and these were good as well. For those unfamiliar with the texture of mochi donuts, it is different than a cake or yeast donut because they have rice flour. So, it is much chewier (like mochi) by design. You can find these kinds of donuts in asia. In Dunkin Donuts in S. Korea, they sell donuts like this as well, and they are really good too! My opinion is these donuts are better than the ones at Over Rice, which is also in Ellicott City. They also sell bubble tea and Korean style hot dogs (like Ssong's hot dogs in the Columbia mall). The employees were very friendly and helpful. My only complaint is the price is more expensive than I expected for the donuts. It was $3.50 for a single donut. Half a dozen is a better deal at $18, and i think a dozen is $35. read more

First time having mochi donuts. We love mochi and donuts so we were hopeful these would be amazing! To me they tasted like a funnel cake dough that was in not hot enough oil. Definitely an oily texture. The oreo topping was decent. I don't think I'd get these again unless there was a flavor I was really excited to try, as these didn't feel worth the price ($7 for two) especially with them not having as much dough as your average donut, with the large empty center.
