    Amber ale

On my first night in DC, I had a shandy that I thought was pretty yummy, and the bartender told me it came from a brewery in Ellicott City, so on my drive into Baltimore, I took a detour to check out Manor Hill Tavern. Apparently the tavern is connected to but not owned by the same folks at the brewery. It's also seemingly one of the only spots in town that's open seven days a week. Finding parking was surprisingly difficult on a Sunday night, but I circled around until I found a spot. The place seemed pretty packed, with folks waiting for tables, but since I was just there for the beer, I was sent upstairs to the bar. A couple of really nice bartenders were on duty and helped me right away. I got an amber beer which went down smooth, and I opted to get a pizza too. Heads up: If you're vegan you can basically sub out any pizza for a vegan option, but be certain to ask about ingredients, as no one pointed out the white sauce isn't vegan until I asked. I like spice and smokiness, so I opted for the Holy Smoke -- Alabama White BBQ, Tavern Blend Cheese, Cheddar, Smoky BBQ Sauce, Pulled Chicken, Pickled Jalapeños, Corn, Hardwood Smoke -- according to the menu. The pizza came out super quickly and it smelled like a campfire... in a really good way. The pizza was tasty and the crust was also realllly good. I ate half of it and took the other half to go, which ended up being another meal. And I can confirm it tastes good cold too! I'd definitely come back here, particularly on a warm day when the patio is open (it was raining pretty hard when I was there, so sadly, no outdoor seating). The people are super friendly and the menu definitely has a lot of options. If you're in Ellicott City, put it on your list!

Manor Hill for Father's Day is a nice treat from my kids. Enjoyed the special of ribs, corn bread and Cole slaw. Nice portions. Wish the ribs were a bit more tender.

we were walking in Elliot City and looking for a place to eat when we passed by Manor Hill and decided to check it out. It is a Tavern so we kept our expectations in check but we were surprised to find how good the food was. we ordered the quinoa and cauliflower salad as well as the cobb salad. both were big portion with good flavor and lots of ingredients. the mustard dressing which tasted like honey mustard was really good good food and a nice ambiance

A very good neighborhood bar bistro in old Ellicott city . Good food options and drinks. I tried the shrimp tacos , crab dip , tuna nachos and crab cake. Everything was good . Drinks and service were good. Opened til 12 midnight.

Insane burger, service could use work. Came on a Friday night with a reservation, you'll need one on a weekend! Parking was tight in the lot below so give yourself extra time. You gotta get the Tavern burger. Came with a group of 5 and all of us got it (per my recommendation) - it was delicious. Thick and tasty beef patty, delectable bacon jam, nice cheese melt, and a thick bun. A perfect burger. It came with a few side options included or some additional ones for an up-charge. We also got beers and cocktails, everything was great, maybe a tad pricey ($20 burger). The service unfortunately left much to be desired. Upon arrival, our waitress came to say hi and take alcohol orders, said she'd be back with water. Never came back with the water but came with the alcohol which took some time. So we all sat without water for even longer. I placed my drink order at another part of the meal, and I had a question on it, so we did specifically discuss it. She then brought a different drink. She noticed her mistake and was quick to get the right one. Ultimately no huge deal just some things to work on. She was able to split the check by what we ordered which is a huge plus and really appreciated. Overall we had a nice time, it's a beautiful restaurant, and ended up staying and laughing til close. Hope to visit the brewery nearby another time and we will definitely be back here!

an overall great experience, service was great and i really enjoyed my burger. the old bay fries were the perfect amount of crisp and seasoning and the burger was huge so i only could eat half. it slapped in the air fryer the next day too. my partner got wings and fries and those weren't the best, but could be a day to day thing with that, who knows. i would go again for the burger and i want to definitely try the street fries next time. it wasn't packed when we went and there was a lot different spaces in the restaurant to eat as well.

When we walked in, we were greeted by the host. He was very friendly. We sat in the pizza oven section. My kids loved looking in the pizza oven as the pizzas were cooking.. Our server helped navigate the menu for us. We started with the street fries that were soooo good, that I forgot to take a picture of them because we started chomping when the plate hit our table ha ha ha.. I had the tavern burger that was certainly a 10 out of 10. That sauce with the bacon jam.....dreams are made of that combo!!! My kids had a cheese pizza and pepperoni pizza. If you like crispy and chewy crust this is for you. They use the small pepperonis that have a great crisp on them when they come out of the oven. My kids certainly loved the pizza. It was really cool inside the restaurant because you see the original stone of the building all over the walls on the first floor. It was really cool..

Manor hill tavern is charming, laid back, and fun to eat at. In the heart of old ec, it has all the charm of downtown. The food is good and the beer is local. I don't drink, but know it's that place to be and their brewery is not far from here. As for the food, they have a fresh made pizza oven. It's really good with fun flavors. Thin Neapolitan style crust. I also love the salads here. I went out on a limb and ordered the salmon Balt wrap. It was not my favorite, but I still know I like most other things on the menu. We also got the street fries and they were outstanding. Packed with flavor. We ordered them with jalapeños on the side, but they came on the fries. We picked them off and it was still delicious.

Went here with my wife for Mother's Day. We had each been here once or twice before, and had a positive experience each time. What we liked: - Food. Everything smelled excellent. This time around, we decided to get the chicken sandwich, one spicy, one regular. Very juicy, great flavor. I would absolutely get it again, I just wish the bun was a bit larger to contain all of what was on it. Also had a side of the chimichurri potatoes which were also very solid. - Staff. Everyone was very kind. They delivered very well on my wife's request for extra pickles. Food came out reasonably quickly and was an ideal temperature. What we disliked: - My only real concern with Manor Hill Tavern is how cramped the seating is. I personally have a larger stature than most, so I cannot say with certainty that many others may feel the same; however, I couldn't really stretch out my arms at all and I sat kind of hunched most of the time to accommodate my seat. I could barely even scoot my seat back to get out since it was rather close to the cabinet by the kitchen. I would have been a bit less bothered had we been seated in either of the open booths, neither of which were taken throughout the duration of our meal. Overall, I would give this place a solid 4/5. I've had Manor Hill beer in the past and was not impressed by the prices for quality. I'd go again for the food, but please hold the drinks and space to move more than an inch.

What a lovely bar to pop into on a cold night. My friends all ordered martinis that were really well made! The bartenders were so nice and there is just good energy in this bar. We also had the street fries which did not disappoint. I can't wait to come back and try more food. Very comforting for a great price.

Great vibes here! I went on a Friday night and was genuinely surprised by the massive crowd here. My friends and I walked in and it was packed. There was no seating for another 20 minutes, but surprisingly enough they have an entirely to-go service at their outdoor garden which was quite the vibe. We were fortunate the weather was quite warm, but if it was any other condition the outdoor seating would have been a much different experience. The outdoor seating was quite nice. Sets of picnic tables on rocks, each table with two menus clipped onto the sides. There is a server to take orders for you and all the food is delivered in to go boxes. The only note is there is no free tap water for you there. The food comes out quite fast and you are limited to can drinks and caprisun (which several flavors of capri sun to pick from funny enough). I ordered a margarita pizza which was quite filling for one person and I enjoyed it! It was hot and fresh and quite delightful. For 12 dollars one of the better oven brick pizza places I have tried! My friends both ordered burgers and they enjoyed their burger and fries (came with a lot fries). Of note their menu states they have a shrimp Alfredo pizza but they actually stopped offering this. Good vibes here, just expect it to be filled during prime hours if you do not want to sit outdoors.

You order, put the number on the table, eat, and go. The food comes out surprisingly fast. The ingredients just taste fresh and clean. Not overly salted. It's simple food, but done right. I was surprised how much I liked the place. It's not a place you would travel to go eat. It's a place that if you're in the area and need breakfast and brunch, you can't go wrong. I recommend checking this place out.

I waited in line with Child #1 and Child #2 to make our order and fortunately, a staffer saw us looking for a table and waved us over to an area that they were cleaning as another party of three stood up. It's worth noting that while there are a few small 2-top and 4-top tables, most of the space is jam-packed where your table will butt right up against a different party. It adds a bit to the convivial experience, but it does also mean a larger group may have to split up. Got some brunch, and Child #2 got a kids' meal of pancakes with bacon. Seemed pretty standard. I love a good plate of chicken and waffles so I sprang for that. The chicken was decently seasoned but the waffles were underwhelming. Child #1 got The berry cheesecake french toast and loved it. I tasted a bite and it was not bad. There is an area with condiments that customers can just grab (there is no table-side service, so this makes sense), including a place to grab your own water. Child #1 ordered an orange juice, which we both tasted and it was definitely fermented (unpleasant). When I brought it up to the staff behind the counter, it was "oh, that's too bad" with no offer to remedy it. We bought a bottled one from their fridge, which was better. I got a mango peach lemonade, which was sweet but otherwise very nice. Child #2's meal came with a juice box. We were meeting up with my wife just a few minutes later, so I ordered her an iced coffee and a cubano sandwich. To the barista's credit, they said "hey, just wave me down when you're about finished eating and I'll make it fresh for you to go." Nice. The cubano was okay - it came on what seemed like white bread, rather than a sturdier ciabatta or sub roll that can be pressed (like a cubano normally is) so my wife found it to be okay at best. Overall, the experience didn't blow me away, but there were some decent items and clearly folks in the know come here often so maybe we just had a down day. If I come back, I think I'll try any of the Korean fusion dishes (it is in Ellicott City, after all).

It took a while for the flight to be prepared because I think they're a little bit shortstaffed on a Monday morning, but they had a lot of comfortable places to sit and wait. The corn beef sandwich came out good and I mentioned it was simple because it's literally just corn beef with some white bread and some cheese, but it was actually pretty tasty for breakfast. The coffee flight came out and it's on a large paddle and it looked really delicious. I have to say the regular flavored lattes and the croissant weren't my favorite choices, but as I started moving down the paddleboard towards flavored lattes and the Blondi bar, it was pretty good. My favorite latte was the butter beer and my favorite pastry actually turned out to be the Blondie brownie bar. The inside has enough seating for about 50 people and it's really cutely decorated. I highly recommend stopping in if you're in the mood for a coffee after a day of shopping in Ellicott city.

There were 6 of us, and they were able to put two tables together to accommodate us. I was overall disappointed with the food. The waffle which I paid $5 for was super small and there were just chunks of sugar in it. I also ordered scrambled eggs with spinach and cheese. The spinach came out on the side of the eggs and was uncooked. The cheese was not melted, and the eggs were burnt (dark brown and dry). The waitress was kind enough to take the eggs back for the cheese and spinach to be mixed/melted. They were still burnt and flavorless. I picked around and ate what I could. I also ordered some kind of spinach and feta pastry from the front case, which was good. We also all enjoyed the homefries which were crispy with a unique seasoning. We ordered the stuffed french toast which had a great flavor, but it wasn't really stuffed, there were just toppings on it. My nephew ordered the chicken and waffles. He's 15. I'm guessing that waitress assumed he was a kid and gave him the kids portion. Either way, the fried chicken looked like two pieces of frozen chicken schnitzel. My mother ordered the Reuben and did not like it at all because it lacked flavor.

Approximately halfway from either town is this delightful bakery that isn't just a bakery. As many have said, the aroma alone can make your mouth water - and we arrived midday, so I can only imagine what it's like early in the morning, when the baked goods are just coming out of the oven. They close at 2 on Saturdays, and we just made it by 1:30. Along with breads, rolls, and cookies, there are spreads both sweet and savory, dipping oils and vinegars, plus herb mixtures to sprinkle on them. I didn't investigate the wines but could easily see it's quite a collection. I missed the cheeses somehow, but DD the Cheese Queen said it was a nice assortment. There is also a cooler with soft drinks, so DGD got a berry lemonade & DD a kombucha. I bought a fresh loaf of garlic parmesan bread, and a loaf of cranberry orange pecan bread that was only $4! I see that another reviewer said the cheap loaves are due to the slicer mangling the loaf, but not the one I bought! It was perfect & just a couple of days old. Used to be you could go to most local bakeries & buy day old bread much cheaper. Anyway, even if it was "mangled" it still has amazing flavor and texture - worth every penny even at full price. DGD got a chocolate croissant and a banana muffin. She graciously let me have a taste and both were delicious. There is a free parking lot, which we didn't use of course, as we were walking. I wanted to write about the #9 Trolley Line but yelp doesn't have trail reviews (oversight!!) So I'm just going to add a little info here that does not pertain to The Breadery. Here are a couple of tips if you're doing the #9 Trolley Line walk: First and foremost, I highly recommend doing the uphill part first. In other words, start in Ellicott City. We walked as far as The Breadery and back, which was around 1.5 miles. We were all thankful to be going downhill once we were carrying our goodies! However, there is a farmer's market on Saturdays from May-October and it's a very small downtown so parking is tricky. The lot for the trailhead had people circling for spots. We're going to do the other side next weekend, but starting at The Breadery & returning there. And to be perfectly honest, even though it's a bit of a drive, I will be coming to get fresh loaves at The Breadery a couple of times a month.

Upon our first visit of what we hope will be many, my wife and I placed the following takeout order: 1 order of Baked Meatballs 2 orders of Garlic Bread 1 ten-inch Empire Pie (I requested no ricotta or extra virgin olive oil) 1 order of Rigatoni Meatballs alla Vodka 1 order of Spaghetti with Homemade Meat Sauce 1 slice of Limoncello Mascarpone Cake 1 slice of Pistachio Cheesecake The garlic bread and pistachio cheesecake alone conjured spectacular reminisces. The pizza is the best we've had in Maryland, although my wife regretted my choice of no ricotta; and we would gladly reorder our pasta dishes if we didn't have many more entrees that we want to try.

HIDDEN GEM!!!! I…read morestumbled across this place while visiting Columbia, MD. I was craving a good cheesesteak, so I did what any responsible foodie would do--I consulted Google. This place kept popping up, so I figured the internet couldn't be wrong... at least not this time. The restaurant is tucked away in what feels like a residential area, making it a true hidden gem. The parking situation, however, deserves its own reality show. Spaces are limited, and getting in and out of the parking lot felt like I was participating in an advanced driving course. The establishment offers nice seating, but don't expect a formal dining experience. You place your order at the counter and then find your own seat. When we arrived, the place was packed with people ordering and eating. That's usually a good sign, and at that point I knew we had either found the jackpot or everyone in Columbia had the exact same cheesesteak craving. Because of the crowd, ordering took a little while. The dining area was also in need of some attention--we ended up cleaning our own table before sitting down. The food took longer than expected to arrive, but as soon as I took the first bite, all was forgiven. We ordered two cheesesteaks and a personal pepperoni pizza. The cheesesteaks were absolutely loaded with perfectly grilled meat, topped with grilled onions and peppers, all served on a warm, soft hoagie roll. Every bite was packed with flavor and required at least a few extra napkins. The personal pepperoni pizza was also excellent. I'd describe it as a traditional thin-crust pizza with the perfect balance of sauce, cheese, and pepperoni. No ingredient was trying to steal the spotlight--it was a well-rehearsed pizza ensemble. As I said from the beginning, this place is a hidden gem. The food alone is worth the trip. The only reason I gave it 4 out of 5 stars instead of 5 is because of the challenging parking situation and the dining area's cleanliness and service. Fix those two issues, and this place might just become my new definition of a cheesesteak pilgrimage destination
