Make it count...but in all ways fair. The Mr. of this equation has been seeing Brandon Ferguson for a few years. Before I got married, I had the simplest tax return on Earth: earnings, 401(k), and some donations. We own our home and rental property together, but I always LITERALLY left that to Mr. Ferguson to work out. So this year, I was married (!) and had to be included in all this tax nonsense. I say nonsense, but the truth of the matter is that I'm very familiar with taxes and how they work (stoopid work). Brandon checked in with us on the regular regarding tax paperwork he needed. He was like the proverbial mother-in-law in the GOOD way; and when we figured out our final return: newly married, rental property, residence property...I was happy that he explained everything in plain English, (I could have taken more tax jargon, really!) and [he] found each exception he could, explaining what needed to be taken, etc.) THIS GUY. He's a CPA. He studied [and paid the] same amount as everybody else to gain this certification. I find it funny that ONE person complained about the price that you pay for a person that is on both your side, AND the LAW'S side of things. He's looking out for your best interest ALWAYS; and frankly, H&R Block are terrific people, but to say that you have an accountant of your own is not some kind of weird status thing, it's knowing that you have somebody who will best advise you on how get through this crazy tax world. I'm embarrassed to say how little we paid for this amazing service, so I'll leave it to you to call him yourself. It is a not for profit organization that really would go out of its way for its members. It is the largest corporate sponsor of Habitat for Humanity. Anyhow, this competitor was a fine company, but rarely had advisors stay past a year. The industry average for 4 year retention is around 13%. Thrivent nationwide has a 4 year retention rate north of 40% and in the Northwest it is approaching 50%. That is huge. It is not just a organization of Christians with average products, where the compete, they have some of the best. Look at their mutual funds. There are thousands of mutual fund families out their and Barron's only ranks 55. Thrivent make that list at #4. Right now Thrivent has $10 billion in reserves. A competitor that is also on the fortune 500 (just a little lower on the list). There are companies out there that I love. Costco...they never sell an item for more than 15% above cost. They find some of the best stuff. Anything they brand is the best, it might not be the cheapest, but you get more. T-Mobile, their people love the company and they give the best customer service. I have been with T-Mobile since 2004, I love that I can use the the data free in South Africa, Indonesia, Italy, Hungary and the Czech Republic. In Mexico and Canada, it is just like using it in the USA. There customer service goes out of their way to help and they are empowered to help. They don't pass the buck,I love it. Thrivent has some of the best prices for what they have. They are effient and give dividends back to their members (it is member owned). So make the company what you want it to be. Thrivent employees love Thrivent. If employees love working there, you will be well served as a member. They are an organization of Christians that teach people to use money wisely and live generosly.
