I don't leave Yelp reviews. But the customer service at Elsewhere Vintage was so incredible that I simply had to. I came in looking for clothing from the Edwardian era/the 1910s and this store certainly delivered. Both the lady at the front (I never caught her name but she had shorter jet black hair and was wearing a black outfit the day I came in) and the owner were so incredibly patient with me while I looked through the entire stock and made my decision-I never felt pressured to get anything and I really appreciate that they let me take the time to look around and try on pieces. I ended up purchasing a gorgeous brown 1910s jacket with velvet jacket in near perfect condition as well as some jewelry and a 1940s jacket on sale and I've been extremely happy with all my purchases. I do want to take the time to commend the passion and love that the employee and the owner had for vintage clothing. It was obvious they were extremely well educated on vintage clothing and I enjoyed some wonderful conversations with the staff. Again, I cannot stress enough how enjoyable and low stress the experience was for me-I genuinely appreciate it. I also appreciate the honesty in sizing-I fell in love with this corset cover that simply would not fit my 'ample bust'-I was very sad but I knew better than to try to make it fit. It wasn't for me but I did get some inspiration to make my own from it, so that's the positive! I did not feel judged for my size at all. These are one of a kind garments and it would be tragic if I had ripped a dress from the Edwardian era-that kind of thing can be super devastating. That being said, they actually do carry a pretty decent range of sizes (granted, I am on the smaller side when it comes to waist measurements so I cannot speak on behalf of everyone), but there were a couple of pretty old pieces that ended up fitting too loosely on me. Overall, this was an incredible experience and I am so, so grateful to have visited and grateful to the owner and staff. I absolutely love this store because they only carry the finest pieces of vintage clothing! Each time I've come in the staff have been really friendly towards me. I was really nervous at first because some past reviews said they were rude and I wanted to look at fur coats and was scared to handle them. Obviously, this wasn't the case because I just made my third visit to purchase another one today. The last time I got a coat, a girl even showed me the inside to point out there was a small tear in the lining. Usually sales people don't point out small details like this but I love how honest she was and this is the main reason why I will come back to this store. Vintage fur is the hardest thing to buy because there's not really much you can do to "revive" them once they are forgotten about in someone's attic and smell musty, but all of the furs here are in great condition! I've looked at their dresses (just appreciate their beauty, I don't do drag lol) and can tell they only buy from people who take great care of their clothing. I would recommend this store as your first stop if you're planning a vintage shopping day or need accessories for an event. PS. I'll definitely not go to this store anymore. I've been coming here like once or twice a month from last year. The selection here is amazing, clothing are well organized in places and be really taken care of. Customer service is ok, not friendly. If you touch the hat on their displayed table, the lady will yell at you and told you "don't ruin them" HOWEVER, this is not the reason I only rate it for two stars. The worst part of this store is the post-sale service. This store has NO POST-SALE SERVICE AT ALL. I bought this gown at this store, and the lady who sold this to me only mentioned that this is the final sale, no return or refund or exchange at checkout . I totally understand cuz it's vintage. I know some basic "rule" for the vintage clothes. I found that the thread on the gown is a kind of yellowish color, and I asked her if it's rotted or something, she said no, it is just a golden color thread. I hand washed this gown when I took it home (the water was super brownish color, imagine how dirty it is) like I always do for my vintages, and the label shows on the gown said it is "hand washable". BUT, the gown just totally fall into pieces after it dried. I found it that the thread is actually rotted. And I'm so upset that I think I just waisted 70 bucks for buying a piece of I went back to the store and explained what happened. I knew it's final sale, I didn't ask for refund or anything but ask them to fix it for me. And the lady said "no", because this is not the condition she sold me. And educated me that "vintage clothes can not be washed" and this is a "COMMON SENSE" even the label said it's hand washable. What kind of common sense is this?!!!!! The attitude just make me even more uncomfortable. And then she told me she cannot fix it for me, if I ask she to do so, she'll charge me way more than the gown's price because it takes her lot of time. I then leave immediately. I don't wanna argue with her. I spend at least one thousand dollar in this store for buying vintages, and for me, I coordinate vintage with my other clothes for a casual daily wear out. It's not for photography or party that only wear once or twice. I need to clean them. This store just broke my heart. I'll never ever come back to this store again. I'm a green buyer when it comes to vintage; I haven't shopped many vintage stores before nor have I owned any. I owe the discovery of this location to one of my freshman roommates who interviewed the owner for a Broadcast Journalism assignment. In my freshman year, I looked in the small space which was organized by clothing type: dresses, pants, shirts, intimates, and accessories. I never purchased anything but enjoyed the friendly service. Fast forward to this year, I visited the shop for grins after seeing one of their cute window displays in the new location. In the new location, the garments are arranged in the same way but also by size increasing from smallest to largest. This is helpful for women who want to shop by size quickly and efficiently. This is how I spotted a 1980s plaid suspender skirt and 1950s Pringles of Scotland knit sweater with intarsia design. Clerks were friendly and led me to a room to try them on. The rooms have a soft, warm lighting setting which isn't ideal for taking pictures if you plan to share with friends for opinions or seeing minute details but that's a minor thing to note. I ended up only buying the sweater based on practicality in my wardrobe, but I'm glad that on the tag for the 1980s skirt, a worn spot near the button placket had been noted. To those who complained about rushing home and finding flaws in the clothes, make sure to look clothes over carefully and check the tags! (The signs in the store clearly state that.) The clerks are all enthusiastic about vintage items which is great to see for such a young staff. (This in turn encourages a younger generation to take an interest in vintage fashion) Will definitely be coming back! read more

Vintage clothing here is spot on! But it'll take some time to sort through the clothes and a lot of trying things on to figure out what's right and what fits. I came here to look for two outfits for my engagement photoshoot last year: both inspired by the 50's look (orange and blue dress) but I turned the blue dress into a modern fairytale look (Belle-inspired from Beauty and the Beast). My husband got his vintage pieces from the men's store right next door! I'm a very small petite Asian woman so I had to do a bit of an alteration to the blue dress but the shoot couldn't have been more successful without this store! The service was great! This place is so cute and adorable I just cannot get over how awesome it is! I came here to look for a Dapper Day dress and the girl who worked there was so helpful and wonderful! She really helped me and my cousin look dapper! She was also really patient and was very attentive. Just when I thought all hope was lost that day she whipped out the perfect dress for me! Elsewhere Vintage has an incredible selection of beautiful vintage finds! I live in LA but this place is well worth the drive for me. I recently found my wedding dress here and to be honest it was hard to pick because there were so many great options! Absolutely love this store- the owner is awesome and the staff is very helpful. Scanning the less than great reviews here, it's clear some people don't understand the world of vintage. It's not for everyone, I suppose. Vintage stores are not costume shops. Polyester grandma housedress hell. So it was a lovely Friday afternoon, after having basically a horrible overpriced meal at the Urth Caffe across the street, (but that's a different review), we decided to take a look in the vintage stores. The first store we encountered was Elsewhere Vintage. It looked pretty cool from the outside. The mannequins were styled etc. lot's of junk to look at everywhere although the place was completely empty, looked like they hadn't had a customer in eons. My daughter and I were looking around. Kind of looked like my grandma's closet. Lots of giant polyester house dresses. We didn't see much we realistically would buy but there were a few pairs of overpriced vintage looking shades I was willing to pay quadruple the value for, to support a local business. I was putting the items we were planning on buying on the counter. My daughter had picked a couple dresses she was going to try on, and so had I. Then the woman in charge, I'm guessing the owner, commented on my mask. She said in a fake friendly tone, "Wow what a cool mask. Is that crocheted? Did you make it yourself?" AS IF she was just making chit chat. I said "Ya I made it." She went on, "Soooo is it liiined? Like does it have fabric on the inside?" I said, "No". At that point, Karen the mask monitor, had an A-HA-gotcha moment and gleefully informed me the kind of mask I had on was "Against store policy." She handed me a blue surgical mask and instructed me to put it on. Ok, I get it. She just PRETENDED to be interested in the details of my mask so she could go all tyrant on me and bust me for having the wrong kind of mask. Guess she didn't want my money. Unfortunately for her and her business it is against MY personal "policy" to spend money in stores owned and operated by bossy control freaks. Honestly I was only trying to find a few things to buy to support local business. I left what I had intended to buy, on the counter, and told my daughter to put down what she was going to buy. I put back the dress I was interested in and took my $100 I would have spent at her musty, vacant store and walked down the block to a very cool vintage store where the owner had no issue with my mask. I didn't get any 3rd degree or some phony fakery I was subjected to at the Elsewhere place. Ironically I did go ELSEWHERE and bought a bunch of cool stuff at the guy down the street's store. read more

Word of advice to retail salespersons: DO inform a customer that a particular clothing item runs small. DO NOT refuse to allow them to try on without first taking their measurements in the middle of the store while "sizing them up". Unless it's a couture bridal gown, there is no reason for this. Today I came with my friend to find dresses for Disney's Dapper Day, and we tried out countless amounts of clothes. I really appreciated the help the employees were happy to help you. Especially to the cashier who was assisting us in getting our dresses and hanging them until we were ready to try them on. It is understandable that some prices are higher than others , due to the history, era, and well curated they are. But again, the staff there were really nice and are more than happy to help you. Came here to look for vintage threads that would be appropriate for rainy/cold weather. There's a good selection of fur towards the back of the store which will definitely keep you warm during SoCal winters (I think it'll dip into the mid-60s this weekend, that's the coldest it has been in months!) After looking through the whole store, I was able to find 3-4 dresses that I thought were my style. Unfortunately, only one of them fit me. There's not a lot of extra small sizes here. There are a lot of great accessories including hats, jewelry, scarves. Prices are pretty reasonable given the great selection and seemingly good quality of the used clothes. The dressing room is super dark. I overheard another customer complain about that and the store clerk stated they are working on getting some more lights in. read more

Recurring theme in this store is "DON'T". From the minute you enter the shop there are signs everywhere telling you what not to do. 1. Shoes- If you want to try shoes on you have to go in the back and sit down as so not to damage the shoes by slipping them on your feet standing up. 2. You need to flip through clothes using the top of the hangar as to not damage the clothing. 3. If you want to see what is considered the more pristine that is located in a large hutch with two glass doors that open from either right or left, you need to ask for the salesperson to open the door for you. Then once your done with one side, she will come close it and open the other side. 4. If you want to try anything on they must remove the barrier and open the curtain first for you to enter the dressing room. They will inspect the articles of clothing before you try them on, specifically the zippers to tell you they are working and how far they zip down. This is so if they come out broken you have to buy it. 5. There are notes in the dressing room that remind you to not try and squeeze yourself into anything that doesn't want to fit your body. Over all it was an ok experience for me. I understand they are trying to protect the inventory from damage. I'm relatively thin and the whole zipper call out and note in the dressing room gave me a temporary complex that maybe they were trying to tell me I'm too chubby to fit into anything. The inventory is nice, not necessarily my style though. I favor 70's and more designer couture items. If you are heavy into the 50's -60's era this is your store! read more

I wrote my original review for Elsewhere when I visited from Portland, now living in Orange, I have been able to return to Elsewhere many times over. Elsewhere continues to be one of the best vintage clothing stores I have ever been in. Their selection is amazing and ranges from true 1920s garments through the 80s, but with the main focus on 1940s and 1950s. All of their garments are in excellent condition and well displayed. They offer vintage repro 20s flapper dresses and jewelry too in case you are going to a Gatsby event, or flapper party, and don't want to buy the real deal. They also have some of the most amazing selection of vintage jewelry, hats, purses, and shoes. When it comes to the jewelry, there is everything from wonderful signed sets, to bakelite, to sterling, and in a wide decade range as well. Same goes for their hats, 20s cloches to 40s tilt toppers, to pill box hats. Prices are fair, not cheap, fair, you do get what you pay for. High quality vintage. The shop is large, spacious, and well lit. Also clean and easy to move about in. Staff has always been super helpful and nice when I've visited! Tips before visiting, KNOW YOUR measurements!!!! It is going to make shopping a whole lot easier! But don't be surprised if the staff asks to measure you. Vintage is delicate, precious, and cannot be replaced. Measuring customers prior to them trying on is a way to insure their stock will not be damaged. read more

I was not sure what this place was when we walked in and then I started noticing all these cool vintage items like period shoes and outfits. This store was beautifully laid out with outfits hanging on the wall and racks and racks of cool things. Everything was well taken care of and I found myself the most beautiful gold sweater from Joseph Magnin (iMagnin) that had scalloping and awesome buttons. You can not find clothes like that anywhere, anymore. Well made fabrics with some unique features is how clothes use to be made. We saw some great things in here and could have continued gushing over things but had so many more stores to visit. The girl on the floor was very helpful. Coming back here for sure! read more

Whoever said finding that perfect pair of boots is a walk in the park is terribly mistaken, shopping for the perfect pair of boots is a task indeed, it is comparable to finding that perfect dress, deciding on a great haircut, picking out a complimenting bathing suit and that is why when it comes to boots I usually just let it happen to me. I'll call it fate but as soon as I walked into Elsewhere, it happened. There stood my new black leather boots, in my size, the perfect color and heel accent and to top it off it was as if they were made just for me, they had a gold C next to the base of the zipper. I had set aside the exact amount of money to purchase a hat for my Halloween costume but I knew that I had a backup just "in case" i ran into my perfect pair boots. I quickly swiped up the boots, tried them on, got the thumbs up from the Mr. and was out the door. Having such a wonderful experience the first time, we put Elsewhere on our Sunday Antique and Retro shopping adventure list. Overall, I am a fan of this store, it has a great presentation, the employees are friendly but not overly friendly, it is very clean and they have some really great stuff to browse through. I do think they are on the pricier side but you can tell it is due to the quality of their vintage merchandise. I am a big vintage shopper and was excited to check this place out as I am visiting from NYC. There was a dress hanging up high on the wall I wanted to see. I asked the associate (page) if I could see it. Her response was very unprofessional and rude. She told me the dress was extra, extra, extra small and doesn't fit many people.. basically refusing to let me look at it or try on. I wear 0-2 dress size.. I was very offended. I've never had this treatment anywhere I've ever shopped. Her job is to sell items and help customers not try to make people not want to purchase the item. This is my new favorite vintage clothing store. Love love love it! Everything is so well organized, easy to find, and clean. The clothing itself is organized by the year, and it's very helpful instead of the usual going through racks and racks of stuff until you find something you like. Everything is stylish and cute in here, I had a hard time trying not to stray and just getting everything I saw. I had spent the day at Orange Circle looking for Victorian clothing that could still be wearable, finding nothing, I came here and was greeted by the most perfect Victorian black jacket, the condition is wonderful, and in my size! I can't get over how gorgeous it is! It's so hard to fit my small frame, but when I tried it on, it seemed like it was made for me, I can't wait until it's cold enough to wear it out. Holy crap! This place is UH-MA-ZING! I'm torn - one the one hand, I want to tell everyone I know about this store and for the owner to have gobs of success; but on the other hand, I want to keep this place my little secret and save all the wonderful vintage goodness for myself. This store reminds me of my grandma - in the most wonderful sense. It smells like her home and looks like her bedroom closet. I bought the most beautiful brooch and earring set - and they were in perfect condition. There's a wide range of clothing to choose from: skirts, dresses, hats, shoes, handkerchiefs (help me bring back the trend of using handmade, needlepointed handkerchiefs!) and purses. And did I mention the jewelry? Looking through the jewelry cases, reminded me of looking through my grandma's jewelry. love love love this store. I've recently transitioned to only purchasing vintage or second hand clothing as newer clothing tends to come from inhumane working environments and conditions. My first experience with elsewhere vintage was fall 2016 before the fall dapper day. I purchased a statement wool dress that wasn't exactly cheap. However, the quality of service and merchandise quickly made up for that. Paige was the lovely girl who helped me pick out my dapper day outfit. Everything here, good quality, and so cute! There are two stores on the same street, just a couple doors down from each other--the main one and the boutique, I think the boutique is a little cheaper because it has reproductions there too and some other normal thrift-store type stuff, but there were really cute things in both! And the girls who work there are so helpful! The only thing is that it is pricey, but it is vintage stuff so you kind of have to expect that. Guaranteed to find some real gems, though! read more

I'm sure that signifies success, but I think I might have a problem...or an eye for it? The reason they're getting 5 stars is because it's SO organized. Sometimes I feel like vintage stores often look like a hoarder's closet and they are impossible to search through. Elsewhere organizes their racks by decade which makes searching through so much easier. Also, the quality and condition of their items are so much better than other stores I've been to. I purchased an amazing 2 piece tweed suit (it has a cape and matching skirt!!) and it STILL had the original price tags. Doesn't look aged at all; AND I feel fabulous in it! Elsewhere Vintage is delightful. Vintage shoppers know how hard it is to find good quality vintage in all in one place in the OC. There are only a couple of GREAT vintage clothing shops and this is definitely one of them. Elsewhere offers a huge variety of merchandise and friendly, personal, service. They make you feel at home the minute you walk in the store, and the atmosphere is wonderful. I loved hearing all the old songs playing in the background! :) Dress, hat, jewelry, handbag, swimsuit, and shoe styles range from 1930s to 1960s. They have some very unique items! Case in point: today there was a fabulous suede, western style, gaucho skirt with fringe from the 1940s. It looked like it came right out Maureen O'Hara's dressing room. I'm sure she must have worn one just like it in a John Wayne movie. Sizes run XS to L and are marked on the tags based on waist size and anything else they have to go on to compare sizing to today's standards. Try before you buy -- all sales are final. Today I walked out with a Bakelite fish pin, and an adorable felt cat. I sooooo wanted the perfect red bandana 1950s dress but unfortunately I haven't had a 24 inch waist since I was 12 years old. Tomorrow, I'm calling back and reserving a to-die-for hat and handbag pair that looks to be dead stock from the 1950s. Stock changes rapidly, and costs range from around $30 to $200++ depending on what you are choosing to buy. Rest assured, you are getting quality vintage for the price. Myrna Loy and Kate Hepburn would have been regulars in the store back in the day, I'm sure of it! I've come here a couple times to browse all the lovely vintage clothes they have. I've never really purchased anything here though. One time when I was taking a stroll through old town Orange with my friend, we decided to make a stop here. They were gonna close in a few minutes, but the dude that was working there was said that he's just gonna close the door, but can take all our time to look around. I thought that was pretty cool...there are a lot of stores that try to push you out or won't let you in if they're about to close. We probably stayed in there for about twenty minutes.. and my friend tried some stuff on. The guy working there was really friendly and helpful. Nifty place! read more
