1st and last time coming here. I was looking for larger, better Halloween stores other than Spirit, that may be open all year. Gasoline Alley was one of the recommendations. So, I drove on down. The employee was a heavier set guy. He walked into the store a few minutes after we did and he went to the front counter. So, I walked up to him and was greeted. Told him i was looking for a specific type of jacket, which was a steampunk style jacket. the ones ive seen at Spirit look kind of cool, but never fit. I also told him kind of any long trenchcoat style jacket would work. They did not have what i was looking for and i was told to come back closer to Halloween when they get the Halloween stuff. Ok, I thought this was a year round place, guess not, but no big deal. Well, we did find a long trenchcoat style jacket that worked. There were two prices on the tag, so i asked him about the pricing since i had no clue why there were two. He said thats a rental. He said almost everything in there is rentals. Ok, fine, even Keith's i had no clue about this before coming in, but no problem. Here's the parts where the ONE STAR comes in. I did not know when i came in, but there was another customer in the store behind a partial wall from where i was. So he was fairly close, but I couldn't see him. At one point the amazing employee walked back to that guy and made some snide comment about "steampunk boy over there" to the customer. Sounded to me like they knew each other, at least somewhat. Thats when i saw the customer come around the other side of the wall trying something on. He to made some comment that i dont recall. Well, getting ready to leave, the employee comes back and tries to take me to the hats. He told me i needed a hat. I said no thats fine, I'll be wearing a mask so theres no need for a hat. He seemed to positively acknowledge that, but then he opened his mouth again and was a little nasty telling me if im wanting a steampunk jacket i will need a hat. So basically i reiterated what i had told him but was much more stern and told him im good. So heres the pros and cons of this place. PROs - A ton of costumes. CONs - Nasty employee. Place is WAAAYYYY too small for the amount of crap they have, it's hard to walk in there in some spots. Employee not very helpful and not very knowledgeable. Reason for ONE STAR? Nasty employee. Keeping in mind this was my first time here, with my kid. Would have looked around for a while longer and possibly found something, or something for my kid, but not after the way this guy treated me. Also, if you are mostly rental, but have some items for sale, wouldn't it make sense to have a small section for the items that are for sale? I mean, if that was the case, I easily could have looked in the for sale area (which there isnt one) and seen if i could find something or not. BOOOOO for Gasoline Alley. If you want the rental and want no help, go here. Otherwise, maybe check out Halloween Boutique in Costa Mesa, Triangle Square. Just place, organized and way more selection. read more

Even when I have gone during Halloween, probably their absolute busiest time of year, the owner is always so helpful, even though she is getting pulled in all directions!! We participated in a Pirate themed 5K this past weekend, so I decided last minute to look for something to wear. They had a whole section for Pirate outfits and I found a perfect outfit right away!! So wow. This place has been there for 50 years. Tons of choice. All kinds of sizes. From big guys to tiny. And everything in between. There are all kinds of hidden things spectacular gems and more hiding in this shop. Be careful to not miss the entrance. The lot is tiny and the traffic can only go one direction. Be patient. It's worth it. It's absolutely not close to my home but it was worth the drive. We are prepping to do a Great Gatsby Event at a Michelin Star Hotel with the Luxury Company MontBlanc. It's got lots of selections to choose from for EVERYTHING you could imagine. The value is great. If I had any idea what to do - I'd be a lot better prepared. FYI. - they do take a credit card but I'd encourage you to use cash instead. The prices are great and the value is the best of any other shop. You can however spend hundreds more if you want. Gasoline alley has been around for ages; and if you're in the need for something costume or vintage - this is the spot. They have an impressive collection jammed into a very small space. Prices are typically slightly higher than market value, but they have such great selection and I always find exactly what I'm looking for; I've bought so many things over the years and used to come in with my dad before he passed because he was good friends with the owners son. (I forget his name but he used to work at Johnny Rebs too) This year I came in looking for a suede vest for a Halloween costume. I first asked the lady at the counter- she said I don't have that, clearly flustered because it was busy after more prodding she showed me the section of leather and suede vests and told me to look around, since they were shoved in a tiny corner on the floor I pulled out the stack (6-7 vests) and was looking through them, when the owners son came rushing over making a snide comment about why I was pulling them all out. He asked me what I was looking for I explained and told him the character he cut me off saying "I know the character" he told me to pick one to try on and "get out of the aisle" because he was "trying to keep it clear". Luckily there was a perfect one in the pile and we bought it; $70 for a vest is STEEP. Idk what the attitude problem is - but y'all need to sort it out, I get that it's busy and a stressful time of year, but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth to spend $70 and get treated like a nuisance for spending money with you. I rented my Halloween costumes from there over the weekend! We loved our outfits ( mariachi and salsa dancer) i loved how they had a lot to pick from ! They have everything from outfits to shoes! A last minute invite, I only had less then 48 hours to find a costume to rock. I placed an order through Amazon.com only to be notified a few hours before the party there was an error in shipment and my costume would be delayed 24 hours. Lo and behold the Yelp Gods directed me to this family owned costume shop in the city of Orange. Located in the same plaza as the Post Office and DK Donuts is Gasoline Alley. Parking can be difficult, but parking can also be found in the back. When I walked inside the store, it was as if the gates of costume Heaven opened it's doors for me with the light shining on my head. Costumes of every sort and for every occassion. - Disney - Animals - 70's, 80's, 90's - Cartoon Characters - Classic movies - Christmas - Mascots Wigs, hats, glasses, accessories, shoes, purses and plenty more! I love the option to buy or rent. The cost to buy the Mrs. Clause costume was $65 so instead I choose to rent for $30.00 which included a pair of white go go boots, because you can't have Mrs. Clause without her go go boots. The owner of Gasoline Alley was phenomenal in helping me out. She had a really great personality and it was obvious how much passion she had for her business, which is also ran by her three sons. Awesome place to get costumes for a party whether you are looking to buy or rent. It is a little shop in a corner of strip mall who the owner who has been doing this for decades. The service is friendly and there is plenty of stuff to choose from. Be aware it is not your typical costume shop which it does sell costume but there is real clothes to fit most theme parties. Had to go all out on a 70s party. Young lady there helped me picked out the perfect outfit and shoes. Wish I could have bought the stuff as the clothes I rented could be worn every day. I had heard about this place for years and finally decided to give it a try. I was pleased to find they had a variety of costumes and vintage items at pretty reasonable costs. I wasn't greeted upon entering but I decided to let that slide as another customer was being helped. I found something relatively quickly that would work with my costume when the sales associate approached me and asked what I was there for. When I told her the event and the group I was with she proceeded to get very annoyed and rolled her eyes at me saying "oh yeah (that group)". I looked around the store some more but I couldn't shake the very uncomfortable feeling that she had just shunned me and the group I was with when, as a group, we've been giving them business for many years.
