The other side will take you to Trenton/Philly. The station has three areas for parking. The main lot, in front of the station, the side lot on the left parallel to the tracks (with the poor paving), and a recently opened lot off of Kilmer Rd, which has alleviated some of the wait list for parking spaces. The ingress to the station is a little tricky, because you have to turn onto Central Ave/Reed St - a residential road, and then race through the one way traffic of the lot, so try not to drive over 35 mph around the turns. Its best not to be late, as there isn't a way to pull in and run to the platform. I like that this station always has a few taxis waiting to take people places. I also like that the main lot makes it easier to get to the NY bound side of the platform. I dislike that the station building is small, has limited seating, is usually kinda dirty, and closes at 8 pm. If you miss your train and its after 8 pm, you have to sit outside. There are overhangs, so at least you don't have to stand in the rain, but its not necessarily comfortable in bad weather. At least there are a lot of benches. The station doesn't staff people, so you do need to know how to use the ticket machines rather than ask a person. The building does have two bathrooms but use at your own peril. Edison train station also has two elevators for those of you that need them. That said, access to the elevator requires going under the overpass, which means walking from the main lot, around the sidewalk down on Plainfield Ave, under the overpass, and then up one of the two elevators. There are stairs that are faster. The sidewalks and stairs are well salted in the winter.

This station is one of 3 or 4 that were totally renovated on the R-line several years ago,…read morere-opening around 2017. I've visited them all and they are all really nice. Each has improved seating, with "stand up boards" that let you simply lean without fully sitting. The bench seats have arms to help us old heads pry our bodies out of a sitting position. There is also improved recessed lighting that is not quite as harsh as the old fluorescent bulbs. The displays are also bright and back lit now, with some handy USB chargers if you need one in a pinch. Finally, each of the refurbished stations has some interesting and quite pretty art installation. It just looks so much better! In fact, when I stepped off the train the other day, I almost felt like I was in another cities metro system. It just looks clean and slick. That's a pretty big score for the MTA. Commuters and tourists should use it and enjoy it....you could do a lot worse.

The "M" train use to run with the "R" back in 1987, but as time went on the "M" no longer ran with the "R" in Brooklyn due to MTA's budget cuts in 2010. On the weekends and late nights the "D" & "N" provide extra service (unless stated otherwise) to help the "R" since it acts as a Shuttle train that terminates at 36th St & Bay Ridge-95th St while it skips 53rd & 45th Sts towards 36 St but stops at these two stations only if it's going towards Bay Ridge.

However, the train itself is nice and cool once you're on board. No elevator or anything modern like that. The single entrance is in the middle of the block between Greenwich and Hudson. If you didn't know the precise location, you might miss it. Narrow stairs that are clearly marked for direction but New Yorkers don't give a shit about that so you'll be fighting the traffic of people on the wrong side as you lug your suitcase down the three flights. At least there are handrails! At the platform level, two ticketing machines and a staff person who can maybe help you figure out what you're doing wrong and call for help if there is any trouble. Christopher Street is an island platform that is not as narrow as some. It is on the New York side between 9th Street Station (towards 33rd Street Station) and Hoboken Station (towards Journal Square). There are a few benches and a monitor that lets you know the next two trains are not the ones you need. I got a cell signal on the platform but there is no wifi.

It's not bad inside - fairly clean. It can get a little icky during the summer when you're waiting on the platform, but other than that it's OK. After you get off the train onto the platform at Pavonia, you walk upstairs to the ramps. Then you walk the ramps to the escalators. You go one flight up and then push through turnstiles. It can be a pain if you have or your companion has mobility issues. The outside of Pavonia-Newport PATH looks nice with greenery and flowers. It's almost like a little park.

It is much bigger than I expected, and the elevators make it really easy to get around. I appreciate that it feels accessible for everyone. I have been here at different times of the day, and it has never been overly crowded, which makes getting in and out so much easier. There are a few areas that still look like they are under construction, so parts of the station can feel a little empty or unfinished, but it has never been an issue for me. Overall, I think this is one of the better PATH stations. It is clean, spacious, easy to navigate, and a lot less hectic than some of the others. I would not mind using this station anytime I am in the area.

PATH "improved" the fare system by refusing to coordinate with the MTA's OMNY so an extra card is…read morerequired. If you buy a single ride ticket the machine no longer consumes it so you have useless piece of paper with no garbage area nearby. Machines are often out of order at Newport, causing lines for the other ones. Some mid-day trains arrive before the scheduled which is good for you go-getter types but has caused to me to get hit in the arm by closing doors more than is desirable.
