Her and I have lived in 4 different states together so you can imagine she's had a ton of vets. Dr. Brooks is by far the best doctor her or my other baby Jindo have ever been seen by. She always walked me through all the options in a way that respected my budget but made me understand pros and cons of each way forward of care. I never felt pressured by her and always knew Kami was getting the absolute best care ever. I've recommended her to all of my friends and honestly leaving her was a top 3 con to moving out of state. I honestly cannot recommend her enough. Kami and Kimmers love love love Dr. Brooks!!! Also the front desk staff is so sweet and nice. Kami is on a prescription food so we had to get it from them so I saw a lot of them. The place really felt like family!

Here's a good example of why I'll never use any other vet - I take my dog here for routine visits and immunizations but went there recently when his separation anxiety became more of an issue than in the past. The vet (Dr. Campfield) spent a lot of time with me and Rico (my dog) discussing the best strategy to use to help ease his anxiety. We came up with a plan and, in addition to some training, part of it was a small tranquilizer for occasional use to help ease him into the idea of being left alone. It worked like a charm which, along with some training tips she recommended, made him much calmer. Soon, he should be able to spend some time alone with no medicinal help. The most impressive part of this? She personally called me the next day around 6pm to see how he was doing! I've never had that happen before and it really made me feel like she cared about him and how her suggestions were working. She could have just waited in case I called her to tell her whether it was working or not but she proactively reached out to me. That is definitely the caring part of Caring Hands.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. I visited in May 2025 and called ahead to confirm they…read moreaccepted my pet insurance (Trupanion). They told me they did. I went in, saw the vet, and got two recommended vaccines. They charged $87 per vaccine, which is more than double what I've paid at Petsmart ($40). My total bill came to nearly $300 for the vet visit and two vaccines. Even with insurance, I still paid $202 out of pocket which was way more than I expected. To make matters worse, I'm now stuck going back and forth with my insurance over the bill, and I still owe the clinic money. When they called me about the balance, they casually mentioned the receptionist had been fired, but there was no real apology, just a condescending tone like I should pay and move on. The manager gave a weak acknowledgment that they messed up the billing and told me, "next time will be better." Honestly, there won't be a next time. This place feels like it's more about squeezing money out of customers than actually providing fair, transparent care. A 100% markup on vaccines is outrageous, especially in this economy. I'm only giving 2 stars because the technicians (aside from the receptionist) were kind. Go to Petsmart in Alexandria instead--they're more affordable and upfront about costs. Ive attached what their prices were as of JUN2025

Additionally, they're great about fulfilling medication and pet food if you're using a third party like Chewy. However, the wait times can be pretty rough. For example a miscommunication happened during my visit today. I asked someone if I can be seen and he said he's waiting for the doctor charts. 45 minutes pass and I hear one of the techs ask if my dog has walked in. I had to announce my arrival, a little irked that no one noticed me and my dog pacing around at all during that time. However once I was checked in, my dog was in and out in a minute for his vaccines. The doctor we see here is usually great, compassionate, and willing to answer any questions. Other than the hiccup today, I still will continue to come here. I'd say it's much better service than the other vet locations I've visited in the area. PS they have complimentary charging stations which I needed when my phone was at 1% as well as complimentary WiFi.

This last visit (my son took the dog) is what brought me here. He was neutered on Monday and had a blow out (putting it lightly) in his room. My son washed him off as best be could without soaking the incision. He took him to VCA (where we have spent a few thousand dollars) to have the vet come in the room and announce "he smells" and proceeded to have my son do everything SHE SHOULD have done (take his temp etc) and refused to touch the dog! Needless to say, we'll be looking for another vet. She is in the wrong business!!!! If you are looking for a caring vet, she is not it! This is clearly just a business.

My Merlin Cat collapsed and began seizing in the morning of Jan 6, so I immediately grabbed him and drove to Del Ray Hospital (much closer than my usual cat clinic in Kingstowne). Their current policy is to call ahead so they can let you in during an appointment, but when I knocked frantically at their door, with Merlin Cat in my arms wrapped in a thick towel to keep him warm. One of the staff quickly opened the door and ushered me in, asking what I needed and what had happened. I don't even remember exactly what I said, but they immediately took him to the back while another person took me to an exam room. Unfortunately, Merlin Cat was gone and I just lost it completely. One of the staff (and I am so sorry I can't remember any of their names), stayed with me while I cried, and another person brought Merlin in the room so I could say my goodbyes. They told me to take my time and let them know when I'm ready. I was there for nearly an hour, and they just periodically checked in, spoke about logistics when I was calm, but mostly gave their sympathy while my bf and I cried over our boy. He was only 7, and I'd expected to have 10+ more years with him. They took very good care of Merlin, even though this was our first time with them. They treated a grieving owner with kindness. When I picked up Merlin's ashes and pawprint, the lady who handed them to me just held my hand and expressed her sympathy again. Then I got a lovely sympathy card from the staff. I haven't read it yet, I'm not ready, but I appreciate gesture so much. So for being so kind and so empathetic and for their sincere sympathy, thank you. I don't want Merlin forgotten so...check out his silly face.

As our dog grew older, we have recently caught major gaps in the care for seniors. A new chronic condition was caught later than it should have been and not managed appropriately. Common side effects were not checked for, despite being in her records. Routine tests for this condition were not checked and even after I followed up, neither vet I spoke with suggested doing those tests. This was caught after a trip to the emergency vet, and when I e-mailed explaining that my dog had been in the emergency vet and asking if she had had certain tests at either of her appointments in the last six months. I got a one-sentence follow up saying that they didn't do those tests. No check in, no inquiry about how my dog was doing, no offer for follow up care. We have switched and can no longer recommend them for anything other than one-off issues or vaccines. The young, rotating vets do not seem set up for success here.
