I love this place! I went in once and tried the beantown ice cream flavor, and that's basically all I had for the next couple of visits... and I don't think I will change my choice for a long time. Went in with a group of friends to grab a lot night snack. We love the wide selection and unusual flavors offered. Was a little disappointed and surprised when they told my wife "no samples- we can describe the flavor". I don't mind paying the higher than normal prices for ice cream but feel like they are asking you to just roll the dice on whether or not it will be something that you will enjoy. I'm sure someone at sometime abused the "tasting privilege" and ruined it for everybody - but not a very customer friendly policy. A wonderful place for a little indulgence. While all their flavors are very good, the peach for me is the best. Smooth ice cream with hunks of real peaches is a real delight. Their flavors rotate so unfortunately they do not always have peach. The up side is that I have tried other flavors and if you like an almond joy then a must try is the almond coconut bar. Fun ice cream place with a really cool vibe - I've been to their Bloomington location too which is similar. Lots of interesting flavors and toppings. They have some good candy and fudge too. They have ten-fifteen rotating flavors from their original thirty-two combinations. They also serve yogurt and sorbet. If you would like a cone or a cone-cup, there is an extra charge. The ice cream itself is a little pricey; one scoop came to about $3.50. I would recommend getting one scoop because the ice cream is very rich and creamy. We love Emacks in the Heights!!! On nice days we ditch the car and walk down to this ice cream parlor to enjoy a special treat. Yummy ice cream, great atmosphere, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Employees are always super helpful and pleasant. We even used their party room once for my daughter's 2nd birthday and bought the Emack Attack- which was a hit! Emack & Bolio's is a Brookline, MA-based chain of ice cream shops, who apparently are trying to break into the central Illinois market. I was curious to see if these guys could displace Jeni's of Columbus as the "go-to ice cream of the midwest". Short answer... no. But this is still a good place to go for great ice cream, and compared to Vermont-based Ben and Jerry's, Emack & Bolio's is better. I had a Bananas Foster with a Waffle Kit Kat cone to stave off lunch for a while. I don't normally like bananas in ice cream form, but this was fantastic; just enough dark rum and caramel to keep things interesting. It would be an excellent middle scoop for a unique banana split. My wife got a root beer float, which was greatly helped by 1.) serious amounts of vanilla, whether by bean or by extract, in the scoop of vanilla ice cream, and 2.) a very bite-y root beer. Some root beers go down full and smooth (A&W's), but theirs punches you in the face. It's nice. I got a vanilla bomb cream soda, which seems to fit the mold of "let's take something familiar, and crank the flavor to 11". Lots of vanilla... not necessarily coming from a bean, but that's OK - you won't regret sipping this out of a glass bottle. Flavors alternate, and today there seemed to be a *lot* of chocolate or chocolate-based flavors. I also forgot to try some of the freshly-made candy, so whenever I'm in Peoria Heights next, I'll have to make sure to try a Nutella Cup. And as far as being a chain goes, this place gives a few mom-and-pop churn-your-own places up here in Chicagoland a run for their money. I think only Gelati in Naperville is better. I'd consider that a high compliment; even better, I'm looking forward to my next trip. read more

My fave ice-cream destination in Peoria! Limited but high quality flavors, creatively named. For those wondering, this place does not serve soft-serve ice-cream, rather the traditional kind dug out from a scoop. This particular location also serves some dessert treats such as chocolates and some baked goods. If you feel like splurging, you can cradle your scoop in a ginormous size waffle cone dressed up with rice crispy treat chunks, toffee bits, or cookie crumbs to name a few. I really like a couple of smoothies I've had here, including a peach. Some of their ice cream flavors I remember were pretty decent, but I can't quite recall. I've tried an assortment of their chocolates which were decent, some a bit too heavy to my liking, but that's chocolate for you. You can't go wrong with turtles. read more

This is one of my favorite spots to stop in the summer. They have a Raspberry Limericky that I ALWAYS buy and guzzle down in no time. SO DELICIOUS! They make it with fresh fruit though, so if lime's aren't in season... you have to order something else. Like ice cream. The ice cream is extremely good and there are so many fun candy covered cones that you can have something new and delicious every time. Not to mention the plethora of mixed drinks and smoothies they offer. Also worth noting, my sister had the Citrus Cooler and was a big fan. Went here in autumn 2017. I chose the vanilla bean flavor. The ice cream had a great consistency; it was really smooth and creamy. There were no gummy, rubbery parts, and no ice crystals. The problem was that there simply wasn't much flavor. The vanilla truly wasn't very "vanilla-y" and it resulted in a rather blah experience. My companion chose a fudge or chocolate flavor and reported the same findings. In the future, if I go there again, I will try cookies and cream or chocolate chip to see how those are. Our experience just wasn't a great one, so I can't really recommend Emack and Bolio's. read more

On my birthday I was looking for a place to grab a vegan dessert near me. Galesburg doesn't have any places with vegan ice cream and it didn't seem like the only places were in Chicago. I came across Emack & Bolios and instantly decided to go here when i saw they had vegan ice cream. The inside is very colorful and clean but it did have a faint smell of cigarettes. Im not sure if its legal to smoke in businesses in Illinois because its not where i live in Oregon but it wasn't overpowering. The worker was very friendly and the Vegan Chocolate Pudding ice cream was amazing. I will definitely be returning whenever I visit Illinois again. read more
