I'm low income so for her entire life I took my cat to PAWS wellness center in Gray's Ferry section of Philadelphia because they are low cost. PAWS is great but it can take a week or two to get an appointment. My 15 year old kitty was diagnosed with lymphoma and had weeks to live The Cat Doctor understood I needed a Vet I could take my sweetie on short notice when it was time to euthanize her. Everyone was so compassionate and understanding to my situation. Had several talks on phone with staff and when it was time they accommodated my request for an appointment right away. Vet examined her, took an ultrasound gave me her ailments and let me make the decision to euthanize. (she could have hung on a few weeks more but was starting to feel effects of her cancer). They were all so sympathetic as I stayed with my cat until the end. All told price was 257 dollars. This included euthanasia, private cremation where I'll get her ashes in a couple of weeks.

    My cat in good spirits!

While any vet is going to be "expensive," the level of care you receive with the Cat Doctor is great. We recently found out from Dr. Hooker that our young cat has a rare kidney disease, and she took the time on the phone to educate us, make recommendations, and maintain empathy during this difficult time. We also went to a specialist for this diagnosis and they confirmed what Dr. Hooker suspected. We have been back several times and also made an appointment with a Vet Tech, Amanda, who was helpful in demonstrating how to give our cat saline solution under the skin. Thank you to the Cat Doctor and staff!

The cat keeps me company while I wait.

This is a great practice…read morewith great doctors and my experiences until today have been great when I encountered JEFFREY who works the front desk by phone. I had a 2:00 PM appointment for Kobe's cough. I called and spoke with Jeffrey at 2:02 to inform I was running 10 min late and would arrive at 2:12. Jeffrey (name he provided) informed me there was a 10 min grace period and he would check with the doctors to see if my appointment would be honored. JEFFREY returned 4 minutes later(2:06) and told me I would have to reschedule because the Dr's would only have 17minutes with Kobe. I was not argumentative because I was late but asked for an exception since I had driven from DC and encountered traffic and would be only 2 minutes beyond the grace period. JEFFREY abruptly said no and asked if I wanted to reschedule, I asked if I could be seen later in the day since they close at 4:00 PM. JEFFREY snarkily said the last patient is being seen at 2:30 PM. He asked again if I want to reschedule, I said I don't think I do, he said ok I will send you Kobe's medical file via email and he hung up this was at 2:08 PM. I was 1 block away. At 2:20 JEFFREY sent me Kobe's entire 5-year medical file via email with no text. I am only posting this experience for the owners awareness. We have all seen the JEFFRIES of the world destroy business reputations and the owners sometimes are none the wiser why long-term clients do not return. I am certain JEFFREY is at Woodies having a cocktail bragging about how he dismissed a client. For the JEFFRIES a loss client is of no consequence he will get his hourly pay, for business owners it is a loss of annual revenue. I strongly suggest management evaluate the risk of JEFFREY(if even his name) on their business as I will not return.

It was a brutal winter and I also had a cold, and maybe assumed we were in the same boat. But she encouraged me, against my own reluctance, to get an x-ray immediately. I did, and the x-ray revealed it was a much more serious condition called congestive heart failure. She helped get him emergency doses of a medication that likely saved his life during a really stressful snowstorm week in February where it was difficult to coordinate. She also pushed me to take him to a cardiologist, which I was also reluctant to do. But I'm glad I did. He was really at death's door 5 months ago, and now he's under a treatment plan that has kept him alive with decent quality of life. I'm super grateful to the Dr. Lee, and the staff generally. I almost forgot to leave this review for the treatment that happened in February, because when you're stressed out over a pet and the pet survives the last thing you think about it giving credit on yelp. Your mind is on your pet. That's something to consider when reading reviews. I also just took him in for a vet-tech appointment yesterday and the tech also was super helpful and reassuring. So overall this place has been great.

If your pet needs anything more complex than routine vaccines, DO NOT GO HERE…read more I brought my young cat here with a lump that was eventually diagnosed as mammary cancer, she died later in the year. The treatment she received at world of animals was abysmal. This practice has serious issues with communication, knowledge and accuracy. I was first told my cats cancerous tumor was benign and to just "try antibiotics", then after removing the tumor, I was inaccurately told that they removed all of it, and that she would survive many more years and no treatment was needed, and I was dismissed and almost laughed at when I would bring up concerns about how she was acting. In fact, they did not remove it all, and her cancer was extremely aggressive and she needed treatment that they didn't even tell me about, so she only lived another 6 months. My final interaction with this practice was them giving me the wrong dosage for my dying cats pain medication, which was TEN TIMES her normal dose. Luckily I noticed before giving it to her. I highly recommend going to Penn Vet or PASE for anything cancer-related, and will not be taking any pet here again.

This place, and the caring people in it, made a very difficult day more bearable…read more I came in knowing that I was going to have to put my almost sixteen year old cat down, and as we pet parents know, Sidney was more than a cat to me - he was family. He got me through some REALLY tough times over the past ten years, and honestly I'm not sure how I would have gotten through the pandemic without him. So knowing his time with me was coming to a close, I left it in his hands to tell me when it was time to go. And, unfortunately, that was the day he woke up and his eyes said simply, "Enough." The staff was attentive and kind from the jump. An examination revealed the options, but it was obvious that whatever was happening was quite serious - and I was given a breakdown of potential next steps. Of course with Sid's age, putting him down was also an option, and I already knew this is what we were going with. I did not receive any pressure to run any preliminary tests, procedures, or additional costs. I was simply told what the options were, and provided with an honest opinion of what the outcomes could be. And all options sucked. BUT it was obvious that the people helping me genuinely cared, and it made the heartbreak just a tiny bit easier. I had never had to do this before and I came in with Sid alone, so the vet guided me through what we were doing, what was next, and gave me ample time in between to say goodbye. Again, no real way to make these things less painful, but there was something in the attention and care I was receiving that made me feel like I wasn't going through it alone. The staff was going through it with me. I also received a beautiful card in the mail from them afterwards, hand-signed with a personal message from each - and this small gesture brought such warmth to my heart that I felt I had to share it. Highly recommend this place.

My second visit to VEG, two years after my first, was for a completely different issue for my cat…read more Once again the team descended upon me and my boy immediately, and calmly and thoroughly triaged him and took me through all the intake questions. I spent 3+ hours there but it didn't feel like it. I was able to be by his side the entire time, there was hydration and snacks, and I was comfortable. I feel like every nurse checked in with us at least once. Even my cat felt chill enough after a while to curl up and nap in his large cage (they were quite busy and all rooms were taken). As off Feb '25 it was $200 for just the most basic care, for what it's worth, and in our situation it was very much worth it. They sent everything to my usual vet, including recommended follow up testing. Flippin' awesome and so helpful for moving forward after a terrible Sunday!
