Throughout my services with her, she constantly asked to cancel and reschedule appointments and she ultimately missed the the birth of my son. I hired a doula for support during one of the most vulnerable times in my life, but I did not receive the level of care, professionalism, or support that a birth worker should have. During my labor, I contacted her when I was 5 cm dilated and having very frequent contractions (less than a minute apart). However, because her policy is to only provide in-person support starting at 6 cm, she did not come. During this time I was in severe pain, and the doctors were changing shifts. I did not receive another cervical check until the next provider came. At this point, I progressed to 10 cm and it was time to push. My partner contacted Nikita at this time but she did not come until after my birth, so I received no in-person labor support at all, which is the core service of her package. Postpartum support was also not delivered as outlined. The agreement included 2 hours of support after birth, but she arrived after delivery and stayed for approximately 40 minutes. The 1-week in-home postpartum visit, as outlined in her contract, was repeatedly cancelled at the last minute. Each week there was a new excuse, whether she was sick, she had other clients going into labor etc. She did not have availability to follow up with our appointment until a month later, in which she text me at the last minute asked to switch to a virtual appointment instead of an at home visit. In addition, I paid for placenta encapsulation services and still have not received the capsules even after more than a month postpartum. At this point, receiving the pills is pretty much useless because there When I raised these concerns and requested a refund, Nikita was dismissive and unwilling to take any accountability for the services that were not delivered. Rather than addressing the clear gaps in care, she repeatedly defaulted to contract language to justify her absence at my birth and the failure to provide other services as agreed. Her responses came across as indifferent and transactional, with little regard for the reality that labor is unpredictable or for the expectations she set when accepting payment. Additionally, a photo of me in my hospital bed immediately after giving birth was posted on social media without my knowledge or consent, using my experience for promotional purposes. This was especially inappropriate given that she was not present for my delivery, where I was supported only by my husband and best friend. Sharing such a private moment without consent, while implying involvement, demonstrated a serious lack of professionalism and respect. If you are pregnant and interested in doula services, please do not book this company. Do you research. Nikita has several bad reviews on BBB, reddit threads and yelp with similar stories of her failing to provide services and constantly rescheduling and canceling appointments. I wish I had done better research before. Book with someone else but absolutely do not choose her since she will run off with your money without providing services without any remorse.

On the date of the appointment, Nikita never called and instead texted me a few minutes after my appointment time asking if we could move the appointment to 4 hours later. I obliged. She never showed up for rescheduled appointment time though she had selected the new time. In fact, she didn't contact me at all. When I reached out and requested a refund, she ignored me and never acknowledged my message. I followed up a second time to no avail. She essentially was paid for services she did not render. Furthermore, when I expressed my disappointment on their Instagram page, I was blocked within a matter of minutes. She can find time to block people promptly but can't find time to service paying customers. I am blessed that the red flags appeared at the point of the initial consultation. Otherwise, I would have been out of alot of money and would have had a poor experience. Pregnancy is supposed to be a joyous time and doulas are great assets to parents however, this company doesn't represent the values that are typically associated with doulas. I would not want someone with questionable ethics helping me navigate pregnancy and the birth experience. I dodged a bullet and I hope this review saves other families from such a poor experience as well.

I had one meeting in person with my doula and a handful of texts and one call with her (almost all of which were initiated by me). I ended up having a precipitous birth and didn't make it to the hospital in time to deliver. I delivered in my bathtub at home just as the paramedics arrived and then was transported to the hospital via ambulance. I was in contact with the doula before this happened and she said she was on the way to the hospital to meet me there. I obviously could not call her as the birth was happening and I was transported to the hospital (I did not even have my phone on me) but my husband called the doula and let her know. When I finally got my phone back, I had a text from her from hours prior saying she was in the area and wanted to know if I still wanted her to come. I thought she had left so I texted back that the baby had arrived and that I wanted to touch base for some postpartum support. She never reached back out to me. So once I was home from the hospital, I emailed with Family Ways to ask about this. It seemed rather unfair to have paid $1,500 and to have not really received any support. I understand that they would not give me a refund, but I asked if they could at least offer some postpartum support, since I had nothing during a rather traumatic birth, and that was included in the contract. They refused any further service and argued that the contract had been fulfilled. I'll let others decide if that sits right wit them, but I was very disappointed by this. I felt abandoned and gaslight after a difficult pregnancy, traumatic delivery, and in the fog of postpartum. It was especially disappointing from a service that is supposedly based on being a support system from pregnant and postpartum people during a very vulnerable time. If you do decide to use Family Ways, I would be very clear before signing any contract what support they will give you, especially if your birth doesn't go as planned.

We were initially connected with a couple different doulas that would be available during my due date and had interviews with them -- we ended up hiring Hannah Wright. From the get-go, Hannah was amazing. She was exactly what we needed. She provided great advice throughout my pregnancy and she especially gave my husband a lot of confidence in being my support person by having her there during the actual labor and birth. She provided excellent support and kept me grounded during the entire process and immediately stepped in and started providing all the tips and tricks in her wheelhouse to help me cope during my fast and intense epidural-free birth.
