Located in the quaint, lively, historic retail district of Carytown, Merrymaker proudly holds the title of Richmond's oldest stationery shop. The space itself is small-but-mighty, with everything from locally-made greeting cards to an impressive selection of planners, calendars, and notepads in literally every shape, size, and color. They also have rack upon rack of specialty wrapping paper, and an entire corner of the store is dedicated to custom stationery. At the front of the shop, you'll find a jawdropping selection of pens (including fountain pens) in every shape, color, and price range. Of course, I couldn't leave here without a small notebook (or two), a couple of lovely postcards to send to friends back home, and the determination to start my own fountain pen hobby "someday." I fell in love with a small journal I got for about $16. I loved the journal because it reminded me of the Canal Saint-Martin, I'm excited to use it for card game scoring. There is really something for everyone here. There are lined journals, blank ones, squared one, and more. There is a huge variety of planners with different layouts. Still Life Studios has become one of my favorite places in the city to take ceramic classes. I like how the classes are organized because clay, glaze, tools, and kiln firings are all included in the cost of the class. The space is huge and has multiple tables and rooms to practice your ceramic skills. They even have a semi-outdoor garage area for potters to set up in. In addition to the great space, the staff are all super helpful. The owner, Jess, and teacher, Brooklin, make the space very inviting and informative. It's a great environment to ask questions and be inquisitive about the process. Also, all the other potters who go there, whether members or students, are happy to share their knowledge with newcomers. I would recommend taking the "Bowl in One" class first for just $60 before committing to a whole month of classes. But I promise, once you start at Still Life, you won't ever want to stop.

They had blind boxes as well, but not everything has prices on them and I didn't want to keep asking how much everything was.
