I stopped at UPS and instead of driving somewhere else to get wrapping paper, I stopped in Paper Plus. It smelled sooo good in there and the service was wonderful. I was promptly greeted and shown where the wrapping paper was. I liked the selection a lot and although it was pricey, I left with two rolls of paper (for $20, mind you). I was mad at myself all the way home for spending that much on wrapping paper, BUT! When I got home, I immediately noticed the amazing quality of the paper. It was thick and beautiful paper! It was actually a pleasure to wrap gifts with it. I used up both of the rolls and now my gifts look amazing under the tree. I saw a bunch of other really nice items in the shop, but I was on a mission and didn't get to mill around much. Look forward to my next visit!

Located in the quaint, lively, historic retail district of Carytown, Merrymaker proudly holds the title of Richmond's oldest stationery shop. The space itself is small-but-mighty, with everything from locally-made greeting cards to an impressive selection of planners, calendars, and notepads in literally every shape, size, and color. They also have rack upon rack of specialty wrapping paper, and an entire corner of the store is dedicated to custom stationery. At the front of the shop, you'll find a jawdropping selection of pens (including fountain pens) in every shape, color, and price range. Of course, I couldn't leave here without a small notebook (or two), a couple of lovely postcards to send to friends back home, and the determination to start my own fountain pen hobby "someday." It's curated with love. The people who work here are extremely passionate and helpful. I came here with my manager and we had a blast. She ended up getting a few postcards and a travel planner. I fell in love with a small journal I got for about $16. I loved the journal because it reminded me of the Canal Saint-Martin, I'm excited to use it for card game scoring. There is really something for everyone here. There are lined journals, blank ones, squared one, and more. There is a huge variety of planners with different layouts. It felt like they had something for every preference. Not to mention, the fanciest pens I've ever laid my eyes on. I highly recommend checking this local gem out.

The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful! I had the pleasure of unexpectedly meeting and speaking with John Fogarty, Burton Parish Church Comptroller, who readily gave me some insight on some of the items displayed in the museum and made me excited to visit their Church too. You are sure to find something unique in this store and the profits are used to do great work for communities. YES!!! While we have been to Bruton Parish church many times, (it's my favorite thing on DOG Street by…read morefar) currently the church is closed for tourist visitation due to the installation of their new organ. With that in mind I figured I would finally make the big one block walk down to the gift shop to see what they've got shakin'. The scene would best be described as part hospital gift shop meets a Hallmark store for the 70 and over crowd. So many little trinkets and nick-knacks everywhere. Also noteworthy is that while the shop has an excellent mission, the prices here are very steep. Deals you will not find and some of the clothing that they're selling has never been seen in public since the Golden Girls was cancelled. Dorthy Zbornak would have had a field day in here. In the back of the building is a small chapel which is very respectfully laid out even if it was odd walking by tables of "discounted" Christmas things right by the entrance. I bought my obligatory Bruton Parish fridge magnet ($7!) and had a nice talk with the one volunteer at the register about the current organ project and a few rumored things happening in the near future. She was really a great ambassador for their brand and truly showed that this is a living-breathing-vibrant Episcopal church. I'm not really a retail person so I doubt I'll be back but if you are into trinkets or curiosities then this place might be for you and at the least it's worth the short trip away from the CW buildings on DOG Street.
