ECCC is always a lot of fun! In many ways I prefer our local comic con as it is much less intimidating than San Diego Comic con. It is still fairly easy to get tickets. The con is split between the newer Summit building and the older Arch building convention center. Summit houses the main exhibition floor in the basement and artist alley/writers block on the 3rd floor and a smattering of smaller meeting rooms for smaller panels and niche gatherings. The Arch building has the main stage panels and the celebrity photo ops and another area for more merch and things. This can be a bit of a pain as the two buildings are a few blocks from each other. Security is a walk through system which seems a lot quicker than TSA. The most current iteration of this will flag you for cell phone power banks, umbrellas and eyeglasses cases of all random things. ECCC is also renowned for the high bar when it comes to cosplay and every year the crowds deliver! The March timing of ECCC lends itself to some chilly rainy days so plan your cosplay accordingly. The food situation is what you would expect from a con but if your desperate there are some food stands available inside. Panels are still pretty easy to get into and I never had to resort to getting a VIP pass to make it into the main stage panels I wanted to hit. The celebrity photo ops were completely unorganized and there was no coherent help desk available. I was in the group one line for Hayden Christensens photo op for about 2 hours. Had to leave the group one line due to kid having emergency health issues. No help for rescheduling or refund. The layout was insane for the rest of the convention. Will not attend gain due to this experience. read more

Having been to San Diego Comic Con, Seoul Comic Con, Honolulu Comic Con, I'd say this venue is manageable but perhaps the schedule and signage could have been better managed. The green shirts or ECCC staff were the only trusted people to go to with answers. The other well dressed staff were clueless. At the very least, they should have toured the location together in advance to know where the events were held OR an interactive map with the schedule. Group meet ups, including fan organized ones, need an ECCC contact person to help facilitate in the meet up area. And Saturday, since any con goer knows is the most hectic day, needs a better plan for Summit Level 5 management. If televisions outside of the Main Stage area could play the livestreamed events, that would be cool. Every other convention I've attended had show rooms with large screens that looped new release video game, television, movie trailers, this convention did have a couple of large empty rooms that could have been used for that. Live music would have been a nice touch as well. Otherwise, the remaining panels, rooms, and use of space seemed well organized. Lots of family oriented kid friendly events. First ECCC went as smoothly as it could during a pandemic. My badge arrived 2 weeks before the event, which made it faster the first day to check-in and get the vaccination wristband. This was the first convention I've been to that's used multiple hotels for the event. I liked that the photos and autographs were in a separate hotel vs trying to cram everything into one hotel/floor, but signage was pretty non-existent and would've been hard for anyone not relying on the ECCC app. Bringing outside food and drink (at least my water bottle) wasn't an issue, which was a nice surprise. Security and staff were nice, but staff in the auto room could have improved on the line management. Too many people with premium passes were being put in the wrong line or not being given the fast track option they paid for. I'll definitely return next year, especially now that I've been spoiled with having a convention at home vs traveling to. Tips: -Driving in? Look for garage options in advance! Some of the nearby Amazon parking garages may be open and offering free parking -Outlets are kind of sparse, external chargers are best -There's a few generic ATMs inside. Looking for a Bank of America ATM? It'll be a few blocks away -On a tight schedule and needing to go between the hotels? Consider shelling out for the premium passes if you can. You'll also get to enter a separate entrance -Caffeine fix? Try not to buy from any of the coffee spots inside the hotels as their prices are higher than the places outside of hotels read more

Finally made my first appearance at ECCC and it was filled with liveliness! This year the convention took place at Seattle Convention Center's newest building: Summit. Spanning across a whopping six floors, there were a plethora of activities of all interests. The layout for the highlights from bottom to top was as such: - Show Floor Level: Exhibitor Booths - Level One: Main Entrance - Level Two: Artist Alley - Level Three: Panels & Screenings - Level Four: Tabletop, Console, PC Gaming; Cosplay & Gaming Panels - Level Five: Main Stage; Celebrity Photo Ops Exhibitor booths below the first floor were my favorite to browse. The outdoor Garden Terrace on the third floor was a fantastic spot for photo ops. A number of photographers hung outside to capture poses of cosplayers. Next year I would like to check out some of the panels and events like the Cosplay Central Crown Championships. As expected from any popular event at a new space, the crowd control and congestion did pose a real problem. Escalators broke down and foot traffic jammed at the narrow rows between booths. Lines for food were insanely long and I was glad I had packed my own lunch. As for the ticket pricing, I had missed the early bird special and paid $65 for a Saturday ticket, which came out to be $71 after taxes and fees. Even for a stay of just five hours, I would say the cost was well worth the excitement of seeing all the merchandise and enthusiastic cosplayers. read more

What isn't there to like about Comic Con? It is the true place where nerds unite. Where you can freely utter the names Pokemon, Magic The Gathering, and WOW and not get judged. Where adults can dress up in costume without needing the excuse of Halloween..it is my friends, a truly magical place. The one we attended was in The WA State Convention Center in downtown Seattle. It was a great venue in prime location for anyone who lives in Seattle or for people coming via public transport. It also was next to some great restaurants in case Gandalf and Jon Snow want to grab a burger together or something. Parking was easy and we were able to quickly get our passes and begin exploring. There are just so many things to see, it's really impossible to get to them all. Some of our favorites were the MTG tables and tournaments, artist alley, getting to see everyone dressed up in some pretty epic cosplay, and of course the celebrity guests. We found things we never knew we needed at the artist booths and enjoyed chatting with other gamers and lovers of fantasy. We took pictures with various superheroes, favorite fantasy tv show characters, and some random anime puff creatures. We gawked at Summer Glau and Sean Maher from Firefly, cried with Wil Wheaton, and drooled on Matthew Lewis. All in all, I'd say it was a pretty successful Comic Con. read more

First time partaking at ECCC with my only prior experience being RCCC. It was truly an amazing experience. In comparison, ECCC was massive. The main floor was probably double the size of RCCC, with activities spanning multiple floors and even multiple buildings. Everything flowed incredibly smoothly for how incredibly busy it was. Getting our vaccination bands was easy, entering any of the panels was easy, all of which made the overall experience even better. If you're looking to spend any money, the main floor will have something for you. From apparel, to toys, to games, to books/comics, drawing/art, or cosplay, there's an abundance of booths. Some of the booths that I personally enjoyed: TeeTurtle (amazing and friendly booth we hilarious apparel and games. Deep Water Games (again friendly booth with a great selection of various table top games). I highly recommend spending more than one day if you plan on going booth to booth. There's so much to cover if you want the full experience. Things I highly recommend: Renting Table Top games, Any of main stage panels, all the cosplay groups, the main floor, even celebrity meet ups. read more

Had so much fun at ECCC! So many different sellers, and amazing goodies. Love having a whole floor for the artist alley, and still there wee even more homemade goodies. It's huge, with something for everyone, and all staff and sellers were super friendly. I just have a few minor complaints with efficiency. There wasn't an easy way to see when celebrity guests were doing autographs. On the app, if you clicked on them they had their panels and speaking times, but you had to go to the autograph hall in a separate building to get times. This is the kind of thing that should be on the app, or at least a map given start of day, which guest services didn't have any maps to hand out. I didn't see any hand held maps at all while there. The food that's as advertised, was mainly the food trucks outside and a few stands in the main hall. Which is fine, but not ideal on a hot day. Luckily, there are a few good options in the area, it's just less comfortable to go into a restaurant when in cosplay. Overall, I can't wait to go back, but I'll be sure to start my day by checking autograph times. read more

The celebs were very kind and the only reason I stayed as far as the staff that put the event on were trash and unwelcoming there was a woman that it seemed every 10 mins would go up and down our barking orders to fix the line and wouldn't let anyone sit if my wife had not approached another staff member and explained my medical issues I don't think things would have gotten better. But once she did that it was like all of the sudden we were able to sit and got vip treatment. They could have at the minimum had some mats for the lines since u were stuck standing in line for at least 8hrs. Or better yet get with the times and have like a que also work towards making it more first timer friendly as far as reservations work shops those things But at the end of the day this was my first and WILL BE MY LAST I will find other cons ECCC just counts on big names for their draw and put minimum effort it seems read more

I went to ECCC in 2018 on a Friday and thought it was entertaining. I come to PAX almost every year and it's weird going from PAX to ECCC because ECCC is so much smaller and more intimate! I thought touring the artist alley was neat. It was nice to see other things featured besides anime and video games. I bought a beautiful print of Doctor Who (it appears to be the 10th doctor and Rose chilling in front of Pike Place Market) for $10 (5x7). They had so many Funko Pops here (apart from the official vendor!). I have never seen so many Pops sold under one roof. There are very little video games here so you should go to PAX for that. There was a tiny Nintendo corner with a giant Kirby. They were featuring the new Kirby game on the Switch. I went to a Doctor Who Meetup. The room was way too small in my opinion but the people I met there were very nice. We got some photos together. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to attend ECCC but if I happen to be in the Seattle area I would consider going. There didn't seem to be all that much to see or do (granted I missed panels), so I think 1-2 days seem sufficient. read more

NERD ALERT! I totally nerded out at Emerald City Comicon and it was awesome. I have been to several similar events and this one was great. There's something to be said about floors upon floors of people with similar interests wandering around in costumes, playing board games, listening to lectures & panel discussions, checking out the vendors and meeting stars. I was impressed with the number of vendors and there was such a wide range of items from science fiction, fantasy, literature, comics, tv shows, art, unique crafts and clothing. I didn't spend as much money as I thought but I still spent a pretty penny. I was really super happy that PUGLIE had a booth here. They sell all kinds of pug related merchandise. T-shirts, stickers, stuffed pugs, and other unique pug related items. It was just so unexpected to see them there and considering how much I love pugs, this ended up being my favorite booth. Most of the vendors were very patient, polite and friendly and I never felt pressured into buying anything from anyone. I enjoyed the panel discussion from American Gods and they really related to the audience. They weren't your typical stuffy celebrities. Very approachable. I really have an issue with the amount of money that celebrities make from autographs and photos. It was sad listening to parents tell their kids that they couldn't afford to get the pictures taken. I saw a few celebrities walk by and they were polite. I didn't like that I wasn't allowed to use a restroom because a celebrity was using it. That's just ridiculous. I don't care if Christopher Lloyd is going poop, I need to take a piss!!! Fun time, fun people but wow was it crowded!!!! I'm definitely coming back next year. read more

This is my second ECCC and it might be my last. I must be doing this wrong. I have two kids who love comics cartoons and games. We like to discover new comics, buy some fan art. But, in artists alley there's a ton of content that is just super inappropriate for kids. I.e. an underwear vendor with sayings like "stick it in my (kitty image)" or lots of sexually explicit content displayed on stickers, shirts, posters etc. I'm hyper aware now after my 9 year old asked me about a few I didn't see right away. (Kids are super perceptive!) But the part that bothered me most is the lack of comics! We luckily found Stan Sakai and got a signature but other than that I don't feel like I got the moneys worth for a family of four. We will probably skip it until the kids are older. read more

This was my first Comic Con and I had a blast. I wanted to get the whole attire but I knew we would have to walk through every hallway of the Seattle Convention Center. That is why I decided to wear tennis shoes and I think it was the best idea!! Feet get swollen hahaha It gets so warm that they need to add another ice pop booth, please! I am not that into the Con thing. Probably that is why I think there might be more attractive stuff. But what fought our attention was definitely the laser swords. Expensive by the way. Be prepared to deal with rivers of people as day goes by. I wish there would be more people willing to dress up and making it super attractive. Kudos for the ones that did it! It was great! ECCC is by far the best convention I've attended. Great panels, smart layout, knowledgeable staff, and amazing artists are just a few reasons why I love ECCC. First, the Panels were absolutely amazing! They invite really interesting and varied celebrity guests so all different types of fans (anime, cartoon, movie, TV show, comic) have something to look forward to. The moderator is very well spoken and has good control of the panel which I really liked. They do sometimes allow some time for fan questions which can get a bit awkward, but having the majority of the panel be pre-thought out and directed saves a lot of the panel weird-ness I've seen at smaller conventions (seriously, I don't get why some people ask the most inappropriate things). In the main hall there is a TON of seating and TV monitors so no matter where you are you'll be able to see the stage. The overall layout of the con is also very nice. They have huge open areas for both vendors and artist alley which are on entirely separate floors. Isles can get a bit squishy from time to time, but that's kind of expected at such a large scale event. Panel/autograph/photo lines are very well controlled and all had really great signage. This prevented blockage of the major pathways which was very much appreciated. They even had staff members standing to point out the ends of lines with the wait from that point forward or whether the line was already capped. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the con itself was run so incredibly well. I've been to other cons that are primarily volunteer driven and found them to be generally useless and disorganized. The ECCC "Minions", however, were all really nice and could answer any questions I had. I was a bit disappointed at the general lack of good cosplays and meetups, but all of the other events more than made up for this. read more

This was my first time at ECCC, but I've previously gone to other cons: - Silicon Valley Comic Con 2016 - San Diego Comic Con 2016 and 2017 Apparently 2019 was the first year ECCC tightened up security with metal detectors. It didn't bother me at all, but I also didn't wear any elaborate cosplay and I felt the crowds entering ECCC was super tame compared to SDCC 2017. ECCC understandably didn't have as many big names compared to SDCC. Big names to me equal movie and TV celebrities. Guest panelists I enjoyed: - Boy Meets World cast - Rupert Grint - Ross Marquand I'm not sure if all these panels are ECCC traditions, but I recommend them if so: - Twisted Toonz: live script reading with actors doing various impressions - Real Nerds Of Comedy: stand up comedy - You Can Draw in 30 minutes: geared for families with small children, but I still enjoyed myself There was also a pop up escape room that I enjoyed. I forget the name of the company, but they were from Victoria. It was $15/person for a 15 minute escape room, and they had 2 to choose I didn't like how the panels were spread out. The main stage was at the Hyatt Regency. Other panels were spread across the 2 halves of the convention center and you had to cross via the sky bridge on the 4th floor or by going outside. Not really the organizers fault though, just have to work with the space you have. I did appreciate that when Rupert Grint's panel was rescheduled from Friday to Sunday, they allowed those of us with Friday only badges to attend his panel on Sunday. I waited in line to enter the main stage 1-1.5 hours early for the panels I wanted to see, which compared to SDCC isn't long at all. I would say the number of exhibitor and artist alley booths is comparable in size to SDCC. They all kind of blend together after going to a couple of these but it's always fun to find that unique item that speaks to you. read more

Oh my gosh. This year was my first time going - what have I been missing out on!!! So much to see and do. I definitely did not see it all!! :( Wish I had gone more than one day! Make sure to check out a few panels and stop by the celebrity autograph area. I did not purchase any signature tickets or photo op tickets, but was allowed to walk up to the celebrities and say hi! I got to meet Scott Wilson (The Walking Dead) and Finn Jones (Game Of Thrones) - got to talk to each of them for a few minutes! SO cool! So many rooms filled with comics, board games, art. There is just so much. I loved that there were a lot of local authors and artists there, you were able to chat with them and see how passionate they are about their work. Pretty amazing. Also. DRESS UP! SO MUCH FUN! It's cool seeing how crazy people get with their costumes! Some are SO amazingly detailed! My friends and I dressed up, it was exciting having people want to take photos with you and commenting on your outfits. Bring cash, as a lot of places are cash only. Try to discover some stuff you've never been into before, keep your mind open to new things. Lots of merchandise. I bought a comic! I was so excited! Haha. They have clothing, art, books, costumes, armor, jewelry. You can even get a tattoo here. Will certianly be back next year - already planning my next costume! read more

The ECCC 2017 was my first ComiCon EVER. So I didn't exactly know, what would await me before I got there. I had some friends who have been a few times before, so I wasn't completely on my own. Thursday was the opening day and I tried to figure out where I could find what. I got lost and overwhelmed in the big halls where all the merch and stuff was sold. Your nerdy/geeky hard can find everything it desires here. From art prints over comic books (duh!), books, games and collectibles to clothing and home accessories. Next time I will save up some money before I go and spend definitely more time at the artists alley! I met some great artists, saw nice costumes (but less than I thought), bought some games, books, art and a dress and lots of impressions and memories. I would recommend coming here but be prepared beforehand so you don't get lost and too overwhelmed with all the stuff presented and going on and the masses of people! I loved that there were so many families with kids! :) read more

What an experience! I'd give the costumes, vendors, and atmosphere a 4 Star. But the information crew on the 4th floor and the "security" badge checker at the vendor showroom were both soo soo rude! I lost my Dad in the crowd and was inquiring on how to find him. I got cold shoulders like they didn't have time for me at all! Come to find out there is NO PA system in the Washington State Convention Center. How are they supposed to make safety announcements? read more

This was my first year attending the convention and I had a blast! Got to see Felicia Day, Patrick Stewart, and Will Wheaton. I would definitely recommend visiting any of Will Wheaton's panels. He's very entertaining! I also loved looking at all the costumes, meeting the various comic book artists, and visiting all the unique exhibits around the convention. Plus everyone was super friendly and nerdy, like me! Some tips for fellow con-goers for next year: 1. SCHEDULE YOURSELF: Print out a copy of the panels and guests you want to visit (ECC has an app, but I prefer good ol' fashioned paper). Friday is a great day to explore, get all the signatures and photo ops out of the way (if possible), and get familiar with the layout of the convention. Saturday is a great day to cosplay and stand around (it gets really crowded). Sunday (not sure, didn't attend this day) is probably the best day to visit all the booths you weren't able to visit during the first two days of the convention. 2. PREP: Wear comfortable shoes, wear a sweater you can easily take off and tie around your waist or shoulders once inside the con, bring at least one bottle of water, some snacks, and a backpack. If cosplaying, bring a friend who is not cosplaying to help guide you around in your cumbersome costume and carry this stuff for you. Kind of like your own designated con-goer. LOL. 3. ARRIVE EARLY!!! Arrive about an hour before the convention starts on each day. By doing this, you'll be able to find some decent parking (maybe not right in the convention, but nearby at least) and move through the badge pickup lines relatively fast once getting into the convention. I did this and it worked out great for me! 4. PHOTO OPS: PART 1 (if you want one that is): After the staff opens up the convention area, run right away to the photo op ticket line (this year it was to the left of the badge pickup area when facing the badge pickup area), so you don't have to spend a long time waiting to buy a ticket. PHOTO OPS: PART 2: You'll be told by convention staff and various ECC literature to arrive 20 minutes early to wait in line for the actual photo op. Don't listen to them. Arrive at least 30-40 minutes early. The line is going to be huge! PHOTO OPS: PART 3: You'll be told by convention staff and various ECC literature that it will take 2 hours to print out your photo. It actually takes around 1 hour to an hour and a half. Return about an hour later and check. PHOTO OPS: PART 4: Don't go for the digital option. I've heard of horror stories where people were sent the wrong picture or didn't receive a picture at all. Just get the actual photo and then scan it on your own time. 5. PANELS: If the panel is in the large main room, arrive 20-25 minutes early. It gets packed really fast! If you are planning on attending a smaller, but popular panel in one of the smaller rooms, arrive about an hour early (at least from what I read. For smaller, not so popular panels, arrive about 3-5 minutes early. I hope this helps! I'll be definitely trying to go back next year! read more

When I was younger you kept your love of comic books where it belonged, hidden deep in the closet. Only nerds and dorks read comics! So as an adult it was a beautiful experience to see so many people celebrating something I was once embarrassed by. The artists were inspiring, the cosplay amazing, and the stench of nerd hung mustily in the air. The signs calling for consent when interacting with cosplayers were appreciated for their existence, but disappointing that they were even necessary. read more

Review Number 400. The Emerald City Comicon is one of my absolute favorite events of the year. This is three days of awesomeness that includes tons and tons of comic books (of course), crazy costumed characters, artists showcasing their stuff, exhibitors...exhibiting, and a lineup of celebrity guests that seems to get better and better every year. This event is held at the Washington State Convention Center and this year the organizers found a way to nearly double the size of the event which kept everything from feeling too crowded although you could easily get yourself lost in the sheer size of the event as well. There were some complaints of people having to wait in line literally hours to get in the door and the maze-like layout can get you turned around pretty quick, but overall it seemed like everyone was having a great time. Since I am reviewing the event as a whole, I won't touch on any specific celebrity appearances or other year specific topics, but they always do a great job of bringing in a bigger and better roster of talent each and every year. All the nerdiest genres are well represented by their biggest names so you can totally geek out when you get to the front of the autograph and photo opp lines. If you have any interest in anything to do with geek culture which, to be honest, has pretty much taken over popular culture these days, you will want to check out this event. Whether you are into the latest TV shows, blockbuster movies, video games, artwork, graphic novels, comic books, or clothing, you will find something here to enjoy. Even if you just want to see tons of people dressed up in their favorite costumes, you will never a find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy...oops, I mean cooler building filled with passionate fans of all ages. read more

I love ECCC and go every year. They always have amazing guests and a great variety of nerdoms covered - TV and film, comics, gaming, and local crafty goodness. However, I wish there were more programs to be found around the floors. The app is great, but the reception inside the building sucks. So, it's best to have the hardcopy, but I think they only keep it near the entrance. Also, I love the celebrities they have their, but the price of the photo-ops are crazy. read more

Even with the new security checkpoints this year with bag check and metal detectors the lines were fast and staff was great. Every year the con grows in attendees and rooms. The aisles are narrow in the vending area that when people pause to look and stack up it is nearly impossible to get down them. Plenty of places to take a rest and have a snack. The only complaint is the lack of signal in the building and no free WiFi. I have been to other events at the convention center and they have had a signal booster/free WiFi available so I don't know who didn't pony up on that. Merchants had a WiFi for transactions and seemed to have no problem thankfully. Just makes it difficult to meet up or track down a lost friend in your group. That would be a huge improvement if they got on board with that. read more

Me and the Emerald City Comicon have a long and illustrious history together. The first year I was planning on going, I made a list of the comics I wanted, creators I wanted to try to meet, and things I wanted to keep my eye open for. I grabbed an empty backpack (to load with my purchases, of course), and drove down to the Qwest Field Event Center. Once there, I quickly hopped in line with a bunch of people who looked like they would rather be going to a hot-rod show than comic convention. ...only to discover that they were in line for a hot-rod show. And that the comic convention had been the previous weekend. Drat. So, the next year, I was even more excited to go. Unfortunately, I decided to throw back a few (dozen) glasses of wine (I'm classy like that) before going to the convention, and ended up being too drunk to get myself down there. So, I went to Baguette Box instead (please see my Baguette Box review). Finally, the third year, I double checked my calender, skipped the booze, and made it down to the Convention clutching $100 in my sweaty palm. You see, I was only going to spend $100, since I'm saving for a Round the World trip. Unfortunately, 15 minutes later, I'd spent $125 and my wife was dragging me out into the street before I completely toppled over the edge into financial oblivion. As she bought me a vendor hot dog, I'm sure she noticed my glassy, wall-eyed stare as I repeatedly mumbled to myself "only five dollars x-men number one-twenty-three very good condition only five dollars only five dollars..." I mean the place was like a freaking opium den. I just went to Emerald City Comicon for the first time ever last weekend and it was amazing!!! I wasn't one of the 3-day pass holders, but forcing myself to just get a 1-day pass was probably a blessing because this place wiped my paycheck faster than the slots with the pretty lights and pictures at the casino! Local, independent, and many well-known artists were there and I bought so many cute, awesome, nerd art! There were cosplayers and Bronies and so many TARDIS's! And let's not forget to mention the photo-ops you get with some well-known celebrities! I've only gone to PAX before going to ECCC, and although PAX is definitely a lot bigger and more popular, there was still plenty to do. PAX is geared more towards video games and board games and all sorts of games, but ECCC has more to do with comics (obviously), art, and your favorite TV shoes/movies. Totally different content, but you'll still see PLENTY of cosplayers and people who dress up or come in wearing a graphic tee based off their favorite book/cartoon/etc! You won't get as much swag as PAX and there aren't a lot of things to try out, but there are PLENTY of things that make you stop every other booth that you really have to resist the urge to buy everything! Seriously...I thought this place was like a huge ass nerd art fair! I know that there is the ever-so-popular SDCC (which I've never been to, but I heard that the crowds can be chaotic!) or PAX that sells out in minutes, but don't let that fool you into thinking there's nothing to see at ECCC. Although ECCC is a bit smaller than PAX, I heard it's been growing more and more every year - I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes as big as PAX in the future! read more

The Emerald City con this year was in a slightly smaller space-- more concise for the size of the crowd that showed up this year. These people-- the organizers-- they should be given a round of applause, landing the huge amount of talent that they do year after year. It's a geek fantasy come alive. read more

I went this year with a three day pass. Overall, I had a lot of fun. Friday is clearly the day to do your shopping if you plan on it, because the exhibitors floor is fucking nuts on Saturday. Also, stuff can sell out, as I found out to my chagrin. Some highlights: The Night Zero booth (yay free photos and double-yay for supporting something local) Wil Wheaton (90 minutes was not enough) George Takei (Oh my!) Edward James Olmos (just an all around awesome human being) The Star Wars radio play with a bunch of famous voice actors (John Dimaggio and Billy West were hi-larious) etc etc etc. There were a few cancellations that were kinda lame (I'm looking at you, Katie Sackhoff), and ironically, the line for people with presale tickets was about ten times as long as the line to just walk up and buy tickets, so I may just come with money in hand next year, but all in all I say the three day pass is worth it. I heard about it a few months ago but didn't pre-order tickets until I saw the commercial for it on TV the weekend before. We decided to get tickets on Friday afternoon when it opened and it turned out to be the right decision. It may have costed $5 more than pre-sale but the line was 90% faster than people that had to pick up badges, ha-HA. The panels were decent and the convention space was ok. The gaming side had a lot of Magic tournaments going on and a place to play board games but nothing as cool as PAX. I'm glad we didn't get the 3-day pass. Not enough content to see. read more

Emerald City Comic Con - Festivals Near Me - Seattle, Washington

We are blessed here in Seattle to have some stellar nerd conventions: GeekGirlCon, PAX, Sakura-Con, SteamCon, Norwescon... you get the idea. ECCC is the largest comic book and pop culture convention in the Pacific Northwest with attendance growing from 2,500 in 2003 to an excess of 50K in 2012! ECCC has something for everyone. There are interesting panel discussions with industry artists and writers. Always wanted to get that MOC figure of your favourite icon signed? You're in luck. She's doing a photo op and autograph session this weekend! They've boasted an impressive roster of media guests over the years: Patrick Stewart, George Takei, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Stan Lee, Edward James Olmos, and many more. There is a massive Exhibitors area with modern and vintage titles plus other items like models, action figures, and statues. Budget accordingly. There is a lot to see and even more to buy. And one of the best parts of ECCC is the costume contest so charge those digital cameras and get ready to take a LOT of photographs. My suggestion is to put yourself on their mailing lists so you don't miss the chance to purchase tickets when they go live. read more

Wow, this event was a lot to take in. I never imagined there would be so many vendors and people packed in there. After reviewing the convention center's list of events, this one is the busiest or one of the busiest that they host. I saw a couple celebrities (Paul Scheer) and hundred of costumes. If you are looking for collectibles like figurines, t-shirts, comics, graphic novels and a whole lot more, this is definitely the place to go. I personally about some water color renderings from one artist that were pretty sweet. Outside of that though, there wasn't quite as much to do/see as I was hoping. They had some panels but none were very interesting except for the stand-up which was a big surprise. In the future, I might hesitate to pay the $40 entrance fee but would have definitely brought more cash to buy more prints and/or graphic novels. Not all the vendors offered card so that became a problem fast. I look forward to next year and seeing what artists, writers and celebrities come. read more

Compared to the years before this was not comicon. It was overly packed, poorly organized, and very commercial. Before it was about getting to meet the people who you've seen on tv or your computer, interacting with different displays, watching panels, and just being able to hang out with like minded people. Will not be going back. :-( read more

My first-ever Con, so maybe I don't have anything to compare it to, but I thought it was awesome. Went on Saturday, it was extremely crowded and busy, but we expected that. Stood in lines for Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes autographs, didn't take too long and everything went smoothly. Went to The Guild panel with Felicia Day, Amy Okuda, and Wil Wheaton. He is hilarious! ECCC was really a lot of fun, and I look forward to returning to it and beautiful (and rain-free during our trip!) Seattle for next year's Con. read more

we only got tickets for sunday, by then there was a look of exhaustion on everyone's face. we didn't stay super long, there were no guests that we wanted to hear on sunday, i also didn't know that they were turning thursday into full day. we won't be back for a few years unless there is someone we really want to see. there is just so much to see in the artists alley (my favorite area) but it's overwhelming and sensory overload. read more

This was the worst-planned big event I have ever been to. There were twice as many people as the space/layout should have allowed for. And of the celebrity guests, only Stan Lee and Leonard Nimoy were worth seeing. Wesley Crusher and the chief from Battlestar Galactica are even lame by Canadian standards. What a suckfest. I am not nearly nerdy enough to enjoy wasting time and money like this. I felt ripped off by this comicon. read more

this is my medina...my mecca would have to be the san diego(or international comicon. this is the second year that i got the chance to go. last year i only went for sunday. this year i got to go for Saturday(best day to go) and sunday. made my rounds, went to some panels(vertigo, buffy--was dragged by friends), bought the collector book, and bought the things i wanted all dressed like impromptu bat girl on Saturday. on sunday, i went to a couple more panels(DC, dark horse) and re-made my rounds to have the monsters and dames collector book signed. every year i learn something new....something for next time...like make a route on the little pamphlet to get more accomplished in less time. Remember to look through the guests on the website so you can be prepared to have the ones you love sign the artwork that you already own(i.e. have derick robertson sign 'The Boys'). it was good this year...it's not at quest field center...it wasn't last year either, and i doubt it will be there next year...they should fix the address. read more
