Big store with tons of selections. I was nervous from pictures that this would be all comic books. I was a little relieved when we pulled up and there was a sign that included toys. We were here on a very specific mission, one son was looking for ghostbusters toys and the other was looking for pokemon cards. One of the employees told us that they get the most calls from people looking for pokemon cards. So I don't bury the lead, they don't have just packs of pokemon cards, but they do have a set that includes multiple packs for $60. We ended up getting that for my older son and I've been giving him a pack every couple of days. I was little nervous about our mission to find ghostbuster stuff. There were tons of star wars stuff and a lot of funko figurines. We did find ghostbuster funko figures, but that wasn't really what we were looking for. Eventually after walking around a bit, we did find three small ghostbuster items. I think they're meant to be kept on a desk, but my son has been playing with them like they're toys. I haven't seen ghostbusters so I'm not going to describe this well, but they are items to track and then trap ghosts. He was ecstatic that we found them, so mission accomplished. If you're looking for comic books then this is heaven. If you're looking for specific toys, it may be hit or miss, but for us it was a hit. This is definitely a place worth checking out. read more

WOW! Talk about a warehouse store. This was a nice stop after being down at the beach. My Paramour needed to pick up his currents and I agreed to go along for the ride. I was impressed with the selection of items. They literally have -everything- comic related. They even have comics! Felt like Indy walking through that giant room full of artifacts. Place is crazy cool. More comics than I think I've ever seen at a comic shop. Not as many figures as others though. Emerald City Comics and Games is an extremely rare find in this country. To find a store this large, one would need to go to Los Angeles. Just stepping foot into the store gives me pride in Tampa Bay. Are we going to be as cool as California? New York comic shops don't even come close to the selection and vast array of titles, figures, and games. The layout is a warehouse that is comfortably air conditioned, even in the hottest of Florida summers. There are smiling employees roaming around, offering help to anyone that needs it. They are more than willing special order any title. My husband was quite excited to find a large space devoted to tabletop gaming, and a room for gamers to come together and play. To my excitement, I found collectible action figures and cards, which is always my favorite, and reminds me of Nagano Broadway shops in Japan. Don't forget about free comic book days. Even if you are not into comic books or gaming, I recommend visting Emerald City at least once to see for yourself. You never know, you might get hooked. read more

Okay, I've been collecting comics/toys/memorabilia for almost 30 years. My wife and I were regulars at SDCC when we lived in San Diego, I have been Sideshow's "Featured Collector." I was in Tampa for business and searched "comic book stores near me" and decided to give EC a chance... WOW! Easily the best comic book store experience I have ever had! Something for literally everyone; comics, toys, games, statues, collectibles, etc. High end to entry level. Not "just" a selection either but a really really really good selection. If I ever owned my own store this is what it would look like. Found myself a Jimmy Olsen 134 at a very fair price and also a couple other smaller items I thought were very fairly priced and BTW, that I had not seen on a shelf anywhere else. This is a great store to go to if you are looking for comic books, board games and the popular Funko's that everyone is buying. They have a large selection of the above mentioned items and are always getting in new stock. The staff is friendly and will help you find anything you need. I go here for the board games. They have a learn to play on Wednesday's and Saturday's where they teach you how to play a board game. There is also a large wall of demo games if there is a game you were thinking of getting, but want to try it out first. This store is also all about events. It seems like they have an event almost every week. They have superheros for people to take pictures with and also run a lot of giveaways. I love this place! From getting current and back comic book issues, to raiding the bargain bins. Great source to find rare issue action figures and they even have life size replicas of the Silver Surfer and Alien movie egg. I was able to score a full size metal Captain America shield. They always have the best selection of comics, new and old and they have a huge selection of toys, games and memorabilia. There store is one of the biggest I have been in and they have a great atmosphere and awesome people working for them, who are always very knowledgable and friendly. I really enjoy the raffles and give aways they have twice a week and they are always doing some kind of event for all the new movies and shows and comics that come out including cosplay meet and greats and signings with some of the artist and creators of comics. They have a pretty good selection of silver.age books, but I found the condition of most books very low. Also the prices were high. Most books were not priced and a worker will give the book a one minute grade and price while you wait. At that point it becomes a take it or leave it scenario. I ended up buying two books and left behind around fifteen books that in my estimation were either overgraded or overpriced. I left disappointed with a pocket full of money that I was hoping to spend. This was the second time this has happened, and I do not think I will be back as I live about an hour away. Very helpful staff and a nice sized store. I had an issue where they put a previous month's comic in my pull box, which I then purchased. When I realized the error, they told me to bring it on back and they'd return it for me, no problems. The staff is also very knowledgeable and not "stuffy." This is the most well organized and set up comic store I've ever been to. Huge selection, in fact, I think I saw about half of what they had to offer in an hour. There's a kids' section and tons of toys as well as a ton of books. I loved that they had a "top shelf" section, which spanned two walls. I spent a lot of my time there. Found some books I've been after for a year or more, and they were in pristine condition. So many boxes of back issues. Too many to go through them all in one go, which is a plus for us diggers. I will be back. Struck up a conversation with an employee that turned out to be the general manager. We talked about Tom King, Miracle Man and Omega Men, as well as the comic industry. That was a highlight for sure, as I felt like I was talking to a friend and not someone just interested in selling me stuff. The staff on a whole are very friendly and helpful. None of that super loud, endless pontificating that so many comic store employees are prone to. On that note, there were a lot of employees working, which means you're getting asked if you need help a lot (maybe 12 times in an hour), but I guess that's the only way you're going to have that level of cleanliness and organization (staff on hand to achieve it). The back issues in boxes are not priced which I found weird at first and was a little reluctant to buy an older issue of Hulk, but they only asked $3.50 for the book and I thought that was more than fair. I guess they do this to accommodate for fluctuations in pricing (they price on the spot). I can see why, but it's also means your odds of getting a really great deal are basically zero. I just feel like that's part of the fun of the hunt: finding a book that is recently hot and also a great deal. Of course, I understand why they do that. The top shelf books were definitely marked up slightly from what you'd see online, but I think they were reasonable considering you're not having to pay shipping and you can support the LCS. Also they had a lot of pristine books well graded and sometimes slabbed. Might well be my favorite comic store period, and I've only been once. Amazing! read more

Stopped into Emerald City when I was visiting Tampa last week. In my opinion it's not a good trip until I've gone to a comic store. Emerald City was definitely a highlight, comics on comics on comics!! I left with a little stack of about 17 comics that I've been enjoying since I walked out the door. Though they are heavy in the comic selection, they also have a fairly impressive figure collection. I spotted some harder to find items and figures such as original Ghostbusters, The Crow, Transformers, etc. This isn't really the place for someone who is more interested in Japanese anime figures or Japanese novelty plushes, there may be a few in there somewhere but I didn't notice them and it's definitely one of my major interests. There was a good selection of table top games and lots of funko pop figures. The staff was super friendly, not only asking me if I needed help with anything, which is standard even though many stores don't even do that, Emerald City went beyond the standard by actually taking the time to notice which comics I was considering and giving me some info and suggestions. Every time I noticed one of the staff members they were always smiling, in the way that can't be forced or trained but can only come from someone truly enjoying their job. Seeing people enjoy their work environment really goes to encourage a customer to stay and browse a little longer. I have kept Emerald City in my bookmarked list and whenever I'm back in Tampa I definitely plan to visit again. read more

I always try to visit comic book stores in different cities I visit. And man, I wish this store was around my area. They have a ton of comics, new books, trade paperbacks, back issues, and premium comics as well. They also had a great selection of art prints, posters, and random stuff to display around the house. They even had a poster my wife wanted so we could put it up in our place. If you're into gaming like Warhammer and other similar stuff there's a room dedicated to it in the back. Tons of stuff, tons of space, and at least 5 people asked if we needed help as we roamed around. Fantastic! read more
