Decent food but the place needs a major makeover. Probably better for take out than eat in.

I have never thought food was so bad that I had to go on an app to let the world know, their food taste, so burnt and bad. The place was so disorganized, the one guy couldn't even speak English. I did go up to one gentleman and he offered to let my dinner be for free but I wasn't there for a free dinner. I was there to enjoy a dinner with my wife. I hope that they can get things resolved for better service and better tasting food. I would highly recommend firing the chef. read more

If you like Chinese food you will not do any better than the Emerald Garden. Where the emerald garden truly excels is in the service and what amounts to the entertainment provided by the Family that runs this establishment. They are true characters and will literally sprint to get your next drink or your meal. Located in a strip mall next to a Walmart do not let the exterior turn you away. The atmosphere with soft Chinese music and traditional tea is always soothing. And while Inside the restaurant may not be the expression of a professional designer the delicious food and the enthusiasm of the chefs and family that run this restaurant will bring you back again and again. I have never left this restaurant without bursting into laughter two or three times. And that part is completely complementary! read more

I've been going to Emerald Gardens for years now since Ive moved to PA from MD ,( Nothin like MD Chinese food!! but this place is compatible) the staff is so nice n friendly never had an issue with my food. Sushi is fresh n amazing, it's a great family environment to seat down and catch up wit the family over great Chinese Food!! I eat from here at least weekly!! Good job guys!! read more

The best place in York county as a whole. The orange chicken is beyond anything I have ever had. Waiter and host are beyond friendly to me and my girlfriend. A great spot to start a tradition. We wanted some Chinese so we checked this place out. We were seated right away and was greeted by our waitress who was attentive and friendly. We ordered egg drop soup, egg roll, sweet and sour chicken and general tso. It was all good, nothing extravagant nor bad. They did have sushi to which we didn't try. Their Chinese dishes are decent, especially for the lunch deal prices. Their sushi, however, is absolutely horrid. It is the worst sushi I've ever encountered in a restaurant. How do they manage to make eel taste fishy? As for the "chef's special sauce"... it is watered down mayo. Not spicy mayo, not a mayo-based sauce... they literally squirted plain white watered-down mayo over the roll. I don't understand how they think that's acceptable. read more

Really good chinese food. Ordered the seasame chicken with vegetable fried rice and it was the best we have had in a while. Also tried the crab wontons which were above average...but the chicken and rice were top notch. read more

Not real good. Ordered a beef dish and got beef with waaaaay too many onions. As a matter of fact there was very little beef in the dish. Fried wontons were pretty tasteless. Soup was fair to average. Service was good, but food quality is fair to poor. read more

Not the fanciest establishment, but the food and the wait staff won me over. The one waiter sang, the other had a wry wit - so fun! The rangoons were delicious, the sesame chicken was hot and crispy and not at all greasy. The Singapore rice noodles were perhaps a bit overdone but seasoned perfectly. We've been here dine-in and carryout a few times and have had great service and delicious food each time. The order was correct, hot and tasty each visit. Prices are reasonable and portions are generous. I don't think we've ever left without a doggy bag or had next day leftovers at home. The staff are friendly and attentive as well. Local American Chinese spots are pretty run of the mill. Any where you go, there's at least 2-3 different spots within the same zip code. At least that's the case with good ole Shrewsbury, PA. Having lived here for 2 years now, we've bounced around for our weekly carry out sampling of fried rice, lo mein, general tsos, and other common choices. For the most part they're all pretty comparable. So what makes Emerald Garden stand out? They have the most extensive menu around. They're the only "Chinese" restaurant that also offers sushi. Ginza does too but that place is a whole different story... The sushi while isn't anything to highlight, is definitely a nice addition to the choices available at this place. It's nice to be able to add an eel and avacado roll to the end of my order. Also in my opinion I'd say they're the friendliest. Going off my own personal experiences, the employees seem to be hard working and genuinely just deliver you a good meal. What more could you ask for? Better decor and atmosphere maybe but to me this place is more take out than eat in. Do yourself a favor and try the Young Chow Fried Rice. read more

Tonight was a spur of the moment visit to the Emerald Garden. We wanted to have dinner out for a small personal celebration. We've eaten here a handful of times over the last few years. Each visit was enjoyable. Service & food has always been excellent. Tonight's visit was no different. The interior of the restaurant is on the small side - but not overly so. It has pleasant, but simple decor and seating. The owners and wait staff are always very attentive and friendly. Their food is delicious. We started with one of our favorite appetizers - crab rangoon. I have had this at other restaurants and the crab filling has been way too sweet. At Emerald Garden it was fresh, hot and had just enough sweetness. I ordered my usual - special order sesame chicken w/all white meat. I generally have only one or two Chinese dishes that I enjoy. Sesame chicken usually is not one since it's not normally made with just white meat. Emerald Garden never has an issue making it the way I prefer. My husband had sizzling beef. As usual - we shared. And now I have another Chinese dish to add to my choices. Oh, my that dish was tasty. The brown sauce had just a slight hint of spice. We don't go here very often just due to it being a little pricey. Though, the servings are a good size. I think we are going to try to go back more often. It's just that good. I'm very anxious to go back for the sizzling beef. read more

Emerald Garden is one of the things I miss most about living on the MD/PA line. The food is top notch and the staff are a friendly as can be. We used to visit this place every couple weeks for about 5 years. We were NEVER not satisfied. Since moving to Austin,TX I have not been able to find anything that even comes close to Emerald Garden in terms of quality of Chinese food. Good Chinese food for the area with your standard menu and attentive service. I've yet to have a bad meal here but some are better than others. I'm not a fan of the Sushi. Sizes tend to be small. On our recent visit we ordered a Rainbow Roll and the fish on the top of the roll was sliced paper thin. You could see the rice through the fish. Come for the Chinese but avoid the sushi. read more

Best Chinese food in the area! We order carry out here at least twice a month or more and have never been disappointed. Every dish we've tried has been fantastic! Always friendly service and delicious food. I love how they even remember your name. Favorites are shrimp fried rice, triple delight, lemon chicken, beef lo mein, shrimp toast and anything in their yummy brown sauce. Nit big on sushi but love the Hollywood roll. I used to go to Ginza Japanese Restaurant to eat sushi on their sushi special days. I would sit at the sushi bar and watch the meal being prepared and then eat it. It was always good, but I read the online edition of the York Daily Record and found that they continued to fail their health Inspections. So I decided to try Emerald Garden Chinese Restaurant & Sushi Bar. I didn't see a sushi bar when I entered the restaurant, so I sat at a table. I told the server that I wanted to see the sushi menu and wasn't interested in Chinese food. Her attitude completely changed for the worst. After reviewing the menu, I ordered items similar to what I would have ordered at Ginza. I waited an extremely long time for the sushi to arrive. Their portions were significantly smaller than Ginza's. When I lifted the first piece of sushi to my mouth, I noticed a fishy smell. I began smelling the other pieces of sushi and most, not all, but most had a fishy smell. I didn't order mackerel, which is oily and can be fishy tasting, but still shouldn't smell fishy. Anyone that eats sushi knows that sushi should have no smell at all. I had trouble getting the server coming back to the table. When she finally arrived at the table, I explained the problem to her, but her command of the English language made it impossible to clearly explain what was wrong. She finally got the manager to come to the table. After explaining the problem to him, he picked up the sushi and smelled it. He said that it smelled fresh to him. He explained that they freeze the sushi upon arrival and keep it frozen until time of use. He refused to take the meal back or refund me for a meal not eaten. I cannot comment on their Chinese food, but I definitely would not recommend their sushi. Since then, they have failed their health inspection, too. First, the wait service was terrible. Took a while for someone to come over to us and then took 30 minutes to get our food. restaurant was not busy. i ordered the shrimp teriyaki and it was nothing more than buttered sauteed veggies and shrimp. Not good. I would not go here again. EDIT: The day after eating there and i'm now sick. Not sure how the chinese food is but I went there on a weeknight to meet a friend who suggested this place a a halfway point. Ordered the typical Spicy Tuna roll and some other rolls. Bottom line - The sushi (raw tuna) was bad...I mean as in "spoiled or rotten". It was all I could due to not vomit. Once you get tht taste in your mouth...you just ca never return. read more

The only place to get decent Sushi within 15 miles of Shrewsbury, and a source of consistently above-average Chinese food. Featuring a an honest-to-gosh sushi bar and a full-time sushi chef, this is the only place to satisfy your sushi craving short of driving to York or Baltimore. If you're more in the mood for Chinese fare, try something off the "house specialties" menu: they are more expensive, but worth it. Very friendly staff as well. read more

Emerald Garden features a better quality of Chinese food than that typically found in a strip mall. The specials taste fresh and different, even a touch gourmet. My kids love the Pu Pu platter. The owners and staff are super friendly. The sushi is consistently decent, but lacks the creative flair of really good sushi restaurants. The standard spicy tuna roll, california roll, salmon and eel are nice, but you won't find lots of different combinations and flashy presentations. If I want a quick lunch, I will order sushi at Emerald Garden, but for more adventurous evenings out with the girls or my husband, we go to Ginza. read more

The food is consistently good. The service is alway fast and friendly. Lunch is the best value as with most Asian restaurants. They should replace the booth seats or reupholster them since the cushions are worn out. read more
