Course was kinda soggy after a lot of rain this week, but surprisingly in pretty good shape. They must have had a chance to mow since the greens and fairways were in great shape aside from some soft spots in some fairways. The course is a nice layout with interesting holes and undulating greens. The best thing was that there was no one in front of us and no one behind us. The worst thing was we had to keep our gas-driven cart on the cart path. Next time I'll carry my bag, for nine holes anyway. The course seems pretty walkable. Nice bar & grill with a pool table. Pro shop okay, and has everything you want/need. I'm definitely coming back soon with more friends and family! read more

There was a mishap with the scheduling - we had a staffer tell us that sometimes that does happen in the system where it reverts to the same day and not the day you choose. Also, The starter was willing to fit us in. But the front desk was not willing to in anyway. We all drove 40 minutes to get to the course. Something tells us that the guy who had the power to fit us in saw when we walked into the golf shop that we were 4 tattooed black men and was not willing to work with us at all. One of the main reasons - he said was because they weren't going to have enough golf carts... we were there 50 minutes waiting and there were over 35 carts not being used. From 9:10 to 10 am... only 2 groups showed up.... Overall the staff is amazing - everyone was willing to work with us EXCEPT the Golf Shop front desk guy ... it's upsetting the golf shop was not willing to work with us - I've been to many courses where I've witnessed or been a part of scheduling mishaps and they still fit people in because scheduling errors aren't uncommon ... was a long 45 minute drive back home smh... read more

Unfortunately I need to make this review to warn anyone that these might be the worst greens in Charlotte, certainly at the price point of $65. The picture highlights how patchy they were. Some spots had grass, some weeds sprinkled isome had just a thin layer of muddy slick grass, and there were divots and ball marks everywhere that were almost impossible to fix. The rest of the course was fine and it was a nice layout but it was depressing walking up to each green. Hopefully work is done to fix this course up but use this as a warning to anyone that is a stickler about the greens conditions. read more

I was robbed! Just go ahead and sell this to someone who will give this course the TLC it deserves. This course has progressively got worst. It is not well kept or fairly maintained. Paid $97 for a round today and after hole 2 realized I was taken advantage of. This course currently is no where near worth a $97. It appears they put so much into trying to make it a wedding venue that they forget it's an actual golf course. You would of thought it was a hurricane last night as soggy as the course was. The drainage must inoperable. The greens was softer than Charmin toilet tissue. The fairways were in decent shape. The sand traps were atrocious, most were overflowed with water - again a drainage issue. Wait did I said how terrible the greens were trashed. If I didn't shoot a 42 on the back I would've asked for a refund. For $97 there are so many courses in way better shape for less (Mooresville GC $37). read more

Today, I played the worst golf course in the area, Emerald Lake. One star is too much. The course looked like they have just let it go and they don't really care. This course was a poor excuse of a "golf" course. It would better be labeled a runway, because when golf balls hit these greens, they take off. You will not be able to tell the difference between fairway and rough, they are both made of dirt. Let's not forget about the range which is so sandy I thought they wanted us to practice our fairway bunker shots. And oh yeah, they robbed us of $113 for this. This course has plenty of potential but is a long way from reaching it. If the torn up greens and shaggy tee boxes weren't enough to deter me from coming back, then the entitled members and staff really did the trick. We played as a group of 3 and after making the turn in under 2 hours were repeatedly told to speed up on the back nine. We had a ranger following us timing how long it took us to play the holes. When we confronted the ranger and showed him we were on pace for a 4 hour round, he said it didn't matter because the "members" behind us had complained multiple times, and that they like to play 3 1/2 hour rounds. The ranger told us we would either have to skip a hole, or head back to the clubhouse and take a rain check. I really cannot stress enough how hard it is to play golf when someone is following you with a stopwatch. I personally will not come back here because there are too many better options in the area. If you are thinking about playing here, then I would suggest a number of other courses to play first in the area. Old Sycamore, Charles T. Myers, Red Bridge, and The Divide are much better golfing options at similar or lesser price points and you won't feel like a second class citizen while you are trying to play a game we all love. P.S. The 16oz Miller Lites are about the only redeeming quality, and the cart girl was very on point. read more

I played there today, 9/13/2022 and the greens were 18 of the worst I have ever seen in my 17 years of playing golf! They were unplayable, mostly dirt and some type of weed/grass mixture. When you hit the ball on the greens, they actually plugged for lack of grass. Divots, ball marks, and generally extremely poor conditions. I wouldn't play it again for free! read more

We recently played the Emerald Lake Golf Club out in Matthews, NC. While we had a great time, the course could certainly use some improvements. The driving range was extremely sandy, most of the greens were cut short but had weeds growing in them, and the clubhouse was a tight little trailer. The staff was extremely friendly and overall it was a great day of golf. The courses were well kept for the most part and some of the holes had excellent difficulty and style to them. If you plan to play in under 5 hours, don't go to Emerald Lake. I've played 4 times and finished once; every other round was cut short because of pace of play. Mentioned it to the pro shop and they showed zero concern--blaming the slow play on poor play. I won't be back and suggest the same for others considering this course. I love to hate Emerald Lake. Too me its a little drab in boring as it one of the flattest courses around. Don't ever pay rack rate as it just isn't worth it. You can find many deals online and this and if it is fall/winter/spring are the only times to play. This is because the greens are bent grass and unlike other places they aren't maintained as well. Also, a lot of people don't fix their ballmarks here which just sucks. There are some memorable holes though. That being 4 where you hit an iron off the tee and having a chance at sticking one close over water. The other one is #14 par 5 where you driver over a lake and then have to hit your approac shot over the lake again into a semi peninsula green. read more

If I could give a zero I would. I never leave reviews but the service, especially the bartender, is HORRIBLE. I would rather go to a worse course than pay for that service. I wanted to pay in cash and tip the bartender because I was in a rush at the turn, but she told me she was busy and turned her back on me. I went in twice (after the second hole, started on the back) to speed things up for the group behind us and the bartender refused to serve me and waited on a table before she even looked at me. No concern at this establishment for people who are trying their best to stay out of the way of people behind them and want to pay absurd prices for beer and pay in cash and leave a nice tip. The attitude I got from her was atrocious. I said I have a lot of people waiting on me (group of four behind my group) and she said she has people waiting on her too but with anger. Saturday greens fee was $60. For that price I expected a better than average golf experience. This place is a trash heap. A scrubby little cow field that needs an infusion of money and attention badly. By the 3rd hole we started considering marching back to the clubhouse and demanding a refund. I would assess the value of a round at $18. Fairways an utter mess. Greens were as if someone dumped kitty litter on them. I could go on but you get idea. A decent layout so there is opportunity but none of the little things that make you feel good are done here. Oh the surrounding community looks wealthy and pristine. The course seems to be in a little better shape than in previous years. The greens and bunkers are a little better shape since in the past few years they were poor. I agree with another review that a lot of people here do not fix their divots or ball marks. Having sand in the cart is about a 50-50 chance so maybe that has something to do with it.
