I used Emerald Landscaping for 15 or so years for my commercial building in Livermore and was pretty happy, however, they were purchased by Brightview a year or so ago and things went to hell. Since I had excellent tenants, I only visited a few times a year. Recently, I was there and half of the lawn was dead, weeds everywhere and trash in the parking lot. Looked like they hadn't blown it off in weeks. Needless to say, I fired them. Also, I wrote a scathing letter to the CEO of Brightview two months ago but never got a response. Don't hire this company, had them do landscaping and they didn't use the plants I showed them I wanted. Paper they put down was cheap weeds started growing through paper within 2 weeks. One plant is dying already. They put landscaping rock and border in front of steps to front door so you have to walk over 2×4 and rocks to go up stairs to front door. Called them and ask to fix they responded they would charge me. I paid alot of $$$ for them to do landscaping and I could have hired the neighborhood kid to do it for a better outcome. Absolutely would not recommend Response to their response - I showed and even texted them a Picture of the plants I wanted. Ulysses said no problem not one of the plants was the ones I told him I wanted from the picture. They put repeats of two plants spaced about 5 feet apart. They never showed me what they were putting in. I did not see it until I went to house after he had texted saying they were done. My Hoa has hired this company for our landscaping. They are 'LAZY' and a waste of money! They come out every week and cut the lawn that doesn't need cutting and NEVER EVER trim or cut the overgrown foliage or bushes.MY community looks like a "JUNGLE" I have complained to the HOA but the CID HOA has a F rating as well!! Our rose bushes were full of blooms before Emerald Landscaping showed up. They also destroyed our crape myrtles, and the plants around our dog run. Such a shame. The walk around the building was graced by a carpet of roses yesterday. Today we cry for our loss. And on top of that, they used a blower inside our courtyard while our doors and windows were open. WORST LANDSCAPING AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. JUST RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! If you are thinking about using this company save yourself the grief and avoid them. I unfortunately do not have a choice as I live in a HOA that uses this company. Nick claims that he is a landscape "designer" with several degrees and many years of experience. I will post pictures of his landscape "design" on my front yard and let everyone reading this review be the judge of his "design". This all started when I moved into community in Danville around October of 2017. When I purchased the home there was a nice green lawn in the front yard. Although there were some small areas of the lawn that needed some maintenance it was in decent shape. After about a month or two those areas worsened and spread. I contacted my HOA to request that the lawn be maintained and restored to its original condition. Repeated requests over the span of 10 months and nothing was done to maintain or fix my lawn. 10 months is a very long time to neglect a lawn in need of maintenance and my lawn was beyond repair at that point. When Nick and Emerald Landscape finally decided to look at my lawn they claimed that grass would not grow and had to replace my lawn with another type of landscape design. This was briefly and vaguely explained to my husband at 7am on a Thursday morning and when I arrived home from work that day and he told me the landscaping plan was to take out the entire lawn I was not happy. I planned on contacting the HOA and Emerald landscape to express my concerns. I left the next morning (Friday) to work and when I arrived home at 4:30 pm my lawn was completely gone. For a company to take no action for over 10 months and then suddenly make such a drastic change overnight shows they no idea what customer service entails. Fast forward to about a month later as I have watched this so called landscape "design" turn into an ugly mess of a front yard. I contacted Nick and requested he come to my home, so we could discuss my concerns about the landscaping "design". He agreed to meet with me on a Friday morning at 7:30 am. In previous emails Nick had mentioned that he was responsible for the planning and maintenance of the landscaping at our community and the HOA board were merely following his advice and recommendations. He stated I should "direct further landscape items" to him. When I answered the door, I was surprised to see the HOA president as well - I guess he needed backup. Each time I expressed an opinion I was told that I was being "argumentative". It seems that if I disagree with Nick this equates to being "argumentative". Overall it was a planned attempt to dismiss my concerns and tell me nothing was going to be changed. In Nick's email he expressed a willingness to listen to my concerns and work with me toward a solution that would be best for everyone involved - that was the reason I contacted him. In person it was a completely difference experience - a experience I wouldn't wish on anyone else. Nick left the discussion by throwing his hands in the air and saying, "I'm done" and walking away. I was merely expressing my opinion in a calm, composed and polite manner and he just couldn't take it. This is a level of unprofessionalism that I have never experienced before. It is my understanding that he requested that I stop communicating with Emerald. I was having a hard time finding a company that was reliable AND did quality work. I have absolutely found both in Emerald. Their crews are professional and clean. They keep the property looking beautiful, and the customer service has been responsive and knowledgable when I have questions or need to discuss issues like changing out our color or upgrading a specific area of my property. Emerald continuously disappoints us. They service out HOA run community and IF they show up they are there for Maybe 10mins blow the leaves around and leave. We switched to them from another company expecting a vast improvement in service. Honestly after the "cleanup" the first time they came out the service continued to decline. Home owners always ask them to clean up specific areas and the service people never do it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND!!! What a waste of time and money. If I could give them zero stars I would. read more

Terrible, Terrible, strictly a blow and go operation. I've observed them week after week on our condominium property, they took Weedwhacker's to our shrubs, and their idea of pruning our hedges was to snap off branches by hand. On 11/16, A spare the air day due to smoke and ash they came through blowing crap up into the air! I love these guys. Top notch landscapers with high integrity. I purchased an older property last year that needed help! Emerald maintains several of my other properties that are in great shape, but I needed the design team on this one. With short notice they were able to do a major clean-up and prune. Emerald then provided digital mock ups for several areas that had been in decline for many years. I have slowly implemented the renovations over the course of a year. Not the best for residential properties. The crews are careless. Dirt routinely blown on to cars and into home windows - never a broom or rake to be seen. Their knowledge of plants is zero - they rarely care for plants properly or with any seasonal consideration. And they have no concept of plantings for security. We had to decide between Emerald and another company. You've heard the saying, "You get what you pay for," so we were cautious at first, but we decided to go with Emerald. Emerald has worked for us for a year now and we couldn't be happier. Their crew gives our property much better attention than the previous landscaper. We recently had mulch put in around the property. We had it done a couple of years ago, so I expected it to look similar to what had been done previously; I was very happy to see that it turned out way better than I expected. The job was done more thoroughly, and it looks great. Also, it's been very easy to work with Mario the manager; he's been very responsive to our requests. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND LANDSCAPING!!! This company has been coming to Turnleaf Apartments in San Jose to blow leaves, and it never fails, my car is destroyed after!!! Leaves, dirt, debri, sticks, trash, etc. ON MY CAR. They have also physically blown dirt onto my vehicle while I drove by, no stopping. I called the company in Livermore on 12/30/13 to complain. The conversation started out calm, until the "regional manager" told me there was nothing she could do and it was normal. It wasn't possible for their workers to do that. WHAT!? I told her I had photographs and video of their workers blowing things onto vehicles and would happily send them to her. She said I was threatening her and to never drive my vehicle then, if I'm that worried about dirt. I have never heard such an idiotic thing in my life. It's bad enough I live in an apartment complex and cannot pick my landscaper, but I should not have to be subjected to this. That is horrible customer service and seriously rude. If you want quality work and don't want to deal with people who are clueless, who actually know what they're doing, and people who care about their business, I would suggest going elsewhere. read more
