Update to Business Mgr: The mulch was not the missing item, it was power washing...I asked for the additional quote on the mulch, it was not the issue, I understand the work involved and was willing to pay for the service. To my point, this could have been communicated so much better instead of through the Receptionist, who tried to get a hold of Henry or maybe you, but stated you didn't have to call me back. I had left voicemails and asked the Receptionist to attempt to get someone to call me back for 2 weeks to no avail...only to have the contract cancelled at 7:44pm the night before. House is going on the market this weekend, so it was not great timing. Similar to what others experienced, received a quote when I caught Henry in-person doing a neighbors yard; however, have had a really difficult time getting them to actually follow-up and start the job. Putting a house on the market this week, and had a signed contract with them to start tomorrow, instead they cancel last minute at almost 8pm the night before. I've been waiting on a call-back and have left voicemails and messages with their receptionist, but not having heard from them I called earlier today and of course some things had changed from what was quoted in-person and what they were planning on doing tomorrow. I recently needed to replace a couple of old sprinkler valves (one was actually broken) so I contacted HC Gardening and Landscaping to see if they could replace them. Henry came over and gave me an estimate, which I agreed with, and we set a date for the work to be performed. On the scheduled date, Henry came over and replaced the valves. This was not an easy job as the valves are located underground below the sidewalk so Henry had to dig thru a small opening to get to the valves and the lines connecting them. This review is a year overdue. I was going to only wait 3-4 months to see how well the yard stood up, but then life got in the way. HC Gardening is AWESOME! If I could give 10 stars, I would! These guys have the eye for landscape design. We started with a discussion on what we were looking for, a rough sketch, and a budget. Henry, the owner, had some immediate ideas and also areas where we could spend a little less and more to achieve our goals. For example, we wanted a softer lawn rather than the hard, pokey lawn that the original builders put in. He immediately pulled out brochures on different lawns, their price points, his recommendations, and we had a great discussion. Same thing with the other plants. We also discussed where we could save some money too. For example, we discussed plants and flowers. He said he could get them for us from his normal shop, or we could purchase them ourselves from a place of our choice which led to be the cheaper option. This kind of dialog and process was really comforting. Henry's team did our front and back yards... almost every plant and shrub was touched, including a pesky tree and root in the front yard. Pretty big job in my opinion- I certainly could not have done this in a month. HC Gardening did it all in 3 days!! Thumbs up to an awesome crew! We hired HC G&L to help ya turn our backyard mayhem into something useful and attractive. They removed a dying peach tree and cactus, ground down the stumps, cleared tall weeds/grass, cut back a neighbor's tree that had encroached into our yard, built 4 raised garden beds, installed drip irrigation in both the front and backyard which involved removing and replacing cobble stone pavers. Some of the materials for the garden beds were not available locally, so they sent a runner to get them from another city. The only thing we did ourselves was to lay down mulch. Talk about making a hard project doable! They will go the extra mile and their fees are reasonable. But above the rest, the work is great and pictures speak for themselves! The team was impressively fast at each stage (assessment, quote, and project). They left us with both everything we wanted and set us up for the next phase which is plant installation. I had a gnarly issue with a section of my landscape lighting not working--Henry responded quickly to my Yelp message, came out the next day, gave a very reasonable quote, and came back and fixed it the following week. Sorry, but getting a quote from them was agony. They immediately set up an appointment via Yelp, then called and canceled it. I called the day of the appointment and they scheduled the owner to come out the next day, at 5pm. Great! He showed up, knew exactly what needed to be done, it's a pretty big job, sprinkler system and drip irrigation and replacing plants damaged by a tree that fell. He was on it! I would have a quote by Saturday! Never to be seen or heard from again... Okay, that's an exaggeration. I called and spoke with his Office Manager every day for weeks and got a quote when I said I was going to write a quote and ask him to put in numbers and send it back. He sent a quote for sprinklers and drip irrigation and forgot about the landscaping. Isn't that what you do???!!! They asked for pictures of the yard, again and stupidly I sent them thinking I would have a quote. Nope. Don't waste your time.
