I just wanna say thankyou to all the staff you guys where so amazing yesterday when we brought our cat Bernadette in. My mom was a mess and was being rude to the staff and it's because she was stressed because she had to open the morning before and she had never been to a emergency vet so she didn't understand why it took so long. All the staff remained so calm and were still so nice to my mom and explained to her as many times as she needed why it costed what it did and why it took so long. A front desk lady even went out of her way to follow us out to my car and bring a pill popper because she heard my mom stressing about having to give the cat pills. Everyone was so amazing and professional and I'm so greatful for that. Bernadette is doing great today getting used to her cone and takeing her pills. Thankyou guys. read more

We had to euthanize our old dog Buddy on short notice. He had rapidly declined due to liver failure. He weighed 60 lbs. We got him into the car but could not get him out. These kind vets sent out a couple of people with a gurney and took him inside. The vet center was very, very busy, but they worked us in quickly because they didn't want our dog to suffer. They were so kind and helpful. They made us a little paw print with a tuft of Buddy's hair as part of the service. The price was one-third what the mobile vet wanted to charge us. We are grateful to the vet and all who helped us and our dog. Highly recommend. read more

There empathy and compassion for the situation will never be forgotten I have told several people how amazing they were. To start out do not take your animal here just go to Perdue or any other vet. To start off they are going to charge you an astronomical amount for the bare minimum of care they can give. My dog was diagnosed with with IMHA and was told she needed a blood transfusion. The price quoted was extremely high and I had some questions/concerns about quality of life after the procedure, is this curable, is this something my dog is going to suffer from long term or should I just put her down. The Vet said if I couldn't afford the procedure and decided to put her down she would keep my dog and do the procedure herself. With that being said if the vet was willing to do it I would proceed with a transfusion. So I agreed to move forward with the transfusion. After the transfusion was complete I was notified that they only had positive blood and my dog is a negative blood type and she had a reaction to the opposing blood type which they told me was rare but happens after they had already performed the transfusion. I was not notified until after this was done. I was told by a different vet tech that if her red blood cell numbers didn't increase I would need to get another transfusion that they couldn't perform because they don't have the proper blood type and that if I did transfer that the other vet would be upset with their treatment. They kept her for a total of 36 hours. I called them numerous times to check on her, they rarely were available and I did not receive timely calls back so I was left in the dark eventually just returning to the vet personally to check on her in person. When she was released from their care she fainted like a goat when I got her out of the car. I took her to Perdue, she received the proper blood in another transfusion, lab tests were done to find underlying issues that caused the IMHA, they called me 9 times in the 24 hours she was there. The dog is doing great and it was a couple thousand dollars cheaper than EVCC. Do yourself and your pet a favor and go to a vet that actually cares about animals, is interested in finding all the possible issues and isn't a franchised greedy bandaid station taking advantage of people that love their animals, using guilt tactics to help decide to use their overpriced mediocre so called service. read more

Drove from Knox after a mishap at the boarding kennel there. We arrived at 5:15 pm and ended up finally leaving at 1:30 am., after 21 stitches to her abdomen. Thankful but prepare to wait a while for any service. read more

Horrible. I came on a Saturday. signed up online early in the morning. I was alerted to go sometime in the afternoon (I think it was 2pm). after waiting almost 3 hours, I left. The next day (Sunday) I registered at 9:30am. Was told to be there at 3. A lot of emergencies can in but, when my cat was at the top of the list, other animals further down the list (who were triaged as not an emergency) were called back before my cat, who was having bloody stools. I again left at 7pm. Not EVCC's fault that they were busy with emergencies but I feel my cat was skipped numerous times by others who were also not critical. Staff seemed friendly but there has to be a better way to manage this. it's ridiculous. read more

Considering this clinic is the only one available for this area, I was very pleased with the staff, the care and the pricing. I also appreciated the information hanging in the exam rooms that explained how care was being handled. Not all emergencies are emergencies when compared to the workload. The staff, they were willing to test a little more compared to other vets who would just take a wait and see attitude. read more

My dog got into some poison on a Sunday afternoon and North Central Veterinary Emergency Care was the closest place that I could find that was open on a Sunday. I called from the car and explained what happened. They told me that it would be best to get him to the clinic within 2 hours of ingesting the poison so they could induce vomiting. They also told me that they were curbside only and that I would need to call once I arrived so they could come out and get my pet. I got there about an hour later and called. They immediately came out and took my dog inside. 20 or so minutes later I got a phone call back from them saying they were able to get two chunks of the poison up and asked me to call the ASPCA Poison Control line. They warned me that I would probably be on hold for about 45 minutes, which I was. They did not tell me that it would be a $75 consulting fee for me to talk to them and get a case number that the vets office could call in and reference for treatment assistance. After I called back in with the case number, things went quiet. An hour passed. Then another. Finally at hour #3 (with me still sitting in the parking lot) they called me back and told me that they wanted to give activated charcoal and do a blood draw to establish a baseline for my pets numbers. They also told me the activated charcoal process took about 4 hours, and I explained we didn't live in the area and I couldn't keep him there that long. They agreed, but the way in which it was told me to was like I had made the decision to put my pet to sleep. Fear and intimidation is what I felt, and I felt like if I didn't open up my wallet and fork over everything I had, I was a bad pet parent and the chances he would survive were slim to none. I allowed them to do the bloodwork, which took almost two hours. Finally, after about 6 hours of waiting around, my pet was discharged with instructions to give him a slurry mixture every 8 hours and to follow-up with my home vet. A couple of things that I liked about North Central: 1) They were able to induce vomiting early, and that probably saved my pet's life. 2) When the receptionist called, she was very polite and friendly. She also let me inside when I had to use the restroom after sitting in my car for 4 hours. What I didn't like about North Central: 1) My pet was inside after ingesting poison. I was thinking the absolute worst and wasn't getting any communication on how he was doing. When he finally came out, he was perfectly happy and seemed completely normal. 2) Because I had no idea what condition my pet was in, the severity of the situation was much more grave to me. I pictured my dog inside on an IV with heart monitors hooked up to him while he was barely holding on. A call to do another potentially life saving measure? Yes.. yes.. do it... I don't need to pay rent this month. Little did I know my little guy was inside playing his heart out. I'll always be thankful for North Central for helping me out of a terrible situation, but I just wish I wasn't made to feel like a bad parent for not being able to do everything they felt was needed. read more

Staff was friendly, and the facility was clean. They took care of our needs but the wait time was quite long. Considering it was a poison issue, this stressed me out because I wasn't sure if my dog should've been made to vomit to get the substance out of her body and every minute that passed, the option faded. The Dr apologized and said they had to wait for poison control to answer the call so they could be told what to do. I did wish I had more precise answers regarding our issue, but luckily everything turned out ok. They suggested we leave our dog for monitoring overnight, but I didn't want to cause her any undue stress, and considering by the time we finally left she had been symptom free for 5 hours from time of ingesting the substance, I decided to just monitor her myself. She ended up being completely fine...and we didn't have to pay the more than $1,000 estimated overnight fee. read more

We had to take our 11 year old dog there Saturday afternoon in September 2023. Front desk staff was attentive, informative and compassionate. We did end up waiting for several hours of testing but they are high volume and had emergencies come in. Dr. Burkhardt was exceptional in explaining results. Our Emma had cancer and we decided to put her down. The vet techs were wonderful. Brought in treats like bacon, peanut butter and cheese for her and even had a paw imprint frame for us. They waited for our daughter to arrive and say her good byes as well. The whole experience was made more tolerable by the expert care we received. Initial exam was $145 which is way less than most emergency vets. Only complaint was their waiting room fluctuated in temperature and got extremely cold. read more

I brought my dog in for a potential intestinal blockage and to see why a dog who normally walks on all fours, for some reason could barely walk and was putting no weight on one of her back legs. After waiting for 45 minutes to an hour she was seen by a nurse, explained what was going on and why we were there. We were returned to lobby after they determined her vitals were stable. About an hour later her breathing became more intense so we asked if she could be seen asap. They carried her back for about 30 minutes and then carried her back out to the lobby. I'm not a veterinarian but I don't think a dog who is normally able to walk just fine, who now can't, should be in the lobby. After about an hour and a half were seen by the doctor and have to repeat to her everything we told the nurse. Some communication amongst the staff would be encouraged, it doesn't really instill confidence or peace of mind when it seems the staff are not all on the same page about what's going on, the nurse typed everything we said into her computer, perhaps a quick review by the doctor before seeing the dog would be beneficial and put the owners at ease. In total we were there for about 6 hours for X-rays and IV fluids. I do not recommend this place, but because it was a Sunday and the only place open we had no other option. read more

This is the worst place ever. They are basically scamming. I don't believe that the doctor we saw was a real doctor. Let your animal die before taking them here because these people will not help you. You will just sit around for hours while they try to print bills and convince people to let them hold their pets overnight and bill $5,000. read more

This was our first experience with EVCC and we were very pleased with the care that are 13-year-old dog received. It was helpful to be told upfront that our wait time may be extended, depending on the severity of other cases coming in after our arrival. Having the staff occasionally apologize for this additional wait time was appreciated! read more

Wait times are unbelievably out of control. It's understandable that times will vary with respect to your own pets state of health in comparison to others currently in the office, however, this place is just completely understaffed. Waited 4 hours with the nurse coming out saying it would be another 4-6 hours. Overheard a couple come in an office with a dog that may have suffered a fractured leg and looked in bad shape and were quoted 2-3 hours minimum. read more

Good care when my regular vet couldn't see my pet. Not a long wait and very thorough services.

I brought my dog here for an eye injury in the early morning. The wait was long, I was informed because of shift change and that the "morning doctor hasn't shown up yet, so we are waiting on her." Dr. Seng appears in the room, stands in the corner of the exam room and refuses to approach my dog. My dog who cannot see and is afraid starts to bark at her. I let the vet know, my dog is not aggressive and that if she could just smell her pant leg- she would stop barking. The vet refused to approach my dog to examine, stared at her with wide eyes and demanded that I not let go of the leash. I reassured her that I would not and then stated again that she was not aggressive- gets groomed often, and even had a vet visit yesterday. She has never had issues, just "needs to get to know you." The vet continued to refuse to even go near my dog and demanded I let my dog walk around the lobby to "calm her down." I informed her that more people in the waiting room would not calm her down. She cannot see well with the eye injury, new place, new people- the issue was not knowing her. Again if she could just smell her/the vet she would calm down. Back in the exam room, the vet informed me she was afraid of dogs. I was confused as to how she was going to examine and treat my dog, if she was afraid of dogs and did not seem willing to even come near her. I questioned, "Wait. Are you the vet or?" I thought maybe she was from Billing/Financial or perhaps a clerk of some sort. She then replied, "Yes I am vet. It's ignorant to think that as a vet I can't be afraid of dogs." She then went on to share how she has been bit before. Finally she came over to my dog, which resulted in my dog to stop barking and sit. My dog sat and allowed her to examine her without any issues. Later, the tech took my dog from the exam room for diagnostic procedures. Upon return, the vet tech stated, "She did really well. We'll let you know as soon as we have those results." While waiting in the room, I noticed indentations on my dog's snout. I assumed she was restrained with a muzzle for their safety during the diagnostic procedures of her eye- completely understandable. However, 25 minutes later the indentations remained. I took pictures of the markings. Her snout appeared disfigured and there was no edema/swelling to her face, other than the localized conjuctiva of her left eye. When the vet tech returned with results and discharge instructions. I asked why the vet wasn't reviewing these results and I was told because "They're normal, so if they were bad- she would be back in here." I asked for the diagnosis and the vet tech couldn't even pronounce the name of it. I then asked the tech about my dog's indentation and how hard they must have restrained her for marks to still be left on the bridge of her snout 25-30 minutes later. She went on to say it was for her and the vet's safety because she was growling at them. I then reminded her that she reported that my dog had done "really well." I explained that I completely understand needing to restrain or muzzle my dog's mouth to perform procedures on her eye, but did the degree of restrain/force they must have used to cause marking on my dog 30 minutes later- was that really necessary. She did not provide an explanation. I was handed eye drops and a cone and told, "Have fun!" I immediately called my routine vet who my dog has seen for over 3 years to inform them of the horrible and brutal handling my dog must have been through. It was their after hour message that referred us to use EVCC. They had a right to know of the type of service their pet/patients will receive at this place. They were appalled because they know my dog very well and cannot believe how they had treated my dog and the lack of aggressive or resistance she had ever met them with during exams/procedures. I am disgusted with how Dr. Seng and the vet tech must have treated my dog outside of my presence thinking they'd get away with the type of brutality. This is animal cruelty and abuse. I have submitted a formal complaint against Dr. Seng with the AAHA. read more

I had a great experience at EVCC today. I brought in my 5.5 year old Great Dane who had vomited 5 times in an hour and wasn't acting himself. I was worried he might be bloating and need surgery. The front staff were kind and didn't bat an eye at cleaning up vomit from my big guy. I got into a room quickly and he was evaluated quickly. A vet from his normal office (Dr Tilley) was there today and she was the one who cared for him. Fortunately, he didn't need surgery. They gave great discharge instructions and a plan for follow-up at the ER if his condition worsened or his normal vet later in the week. My big guy has a lot of anxiety and normally gets meds before a vet visit, but he didn't get them today so he was a little touchy about his temp and x-rays and anti-nausea shot, but the staff were FANTASTIC with him and knew how to distract him and keep him calm during those procedures. Hoping to not NEED to visit here again, but definitely will if I have to. read more

Please don't bring your animals here. It was a really long wait but I wouldnt hold that against them because they were short staffed and very busy but i was there for almost 9 hours waiting. My first issue was a vet tech giving me incorrect information that could have ended very badly. My cat was attacked and had wounds but my main concern was that his neck and head where very swollen almost double the normal size. During triage the vet tech told me that was just hormones and it was completely normal and my cat was fine. I wanted to leave after that because I thought he was fine but my friend who was with me insisted we stay because he didnt think that sounded right. Once we finally saw the vet we were informed that he was in a lot of danger and would not have survived if we would have left and it was in fact not "normal Hormones". If you do go here be careful who you listen to because the male vet tech gave us potentially fatal misinformation. The vet was very nice and explained everything to us very well. The stuff overall was very friendly. As for how my cat was given back to me was very upsetting. He has a very very hard open wound on his neck and they did not bandage it and when i got back home and opened the box they gave him back it it was covered in blood and the cone around his head that was rubbing the open wound was also covered in blood. I called another vets office to ask what to do because my cat was bleeding and covered in pus and blood and they were shocked that they didnt dress the wound. After spending $500 for them to take care of the wound i had to go back out and buy supplies to dress the wound myself (as the other vet recommended). I feel like they charged as much as they could but they did the bare minimum for my cat and sent him away. Please don't send your animal here. read more

They diagnosed my dog that she had yellow diarrhea, and she had very solid stools. After having given my dog the prescribed medications her symptoms continued to worsen. my dog had parvo. the mishawaka office would not allow me to purchase from them an anti nausea medicine from them after i told them he was getting better. said i had to pay another 200 after i gave them 200 already the day before. they wanted me to pay 6000 with a 4500 deposit to do any kind of treatment. at first they said it couldnt be treated then said it could be with them keeping my dog. they said there was no way the dog could survive without hospitilization. today my dog is back to normal and with time will get better. they kept focusing on bringing my dog back to put to sleep. i just wish they would do a better job caring about the animal more than money in which some of us need time to pay and offer more financing options other than care credit. i felt like it was more profit driven than anything and i will never ever take my dog back after waiting 6 hours in car and not even being allowed to use their bathrooom. had to go to a walmart to use bathroom . read more
