Apologies for the long post... I don't post a lot about personal matters but I'm pretty pissed about what has happened with my dog. I trusted this vet clinic. This right here is my Mason, he is only 4 years old and ordinarily a healthy boy This boy has been thru a lot in the last 5 weeks. We have spent a lot of money trying to fix him and make him comfortable. We've done what was recommended by the professionals. We were told it was time to let him go, put him down. Something felt wrong about that. And not for selfish reasons. If it was to be then I would do what's best. It wasn't until I requested his vet records that I found documentation that had not been addressed. Recommendations from a specialist that our "ex" vet did not even consider. Recommendations from said vets referral and he chose not to address with me. When I found this I asked about it. I was told we didn't try this because he was getting better already. But... a new problem kept coming up. He'd get better, then be sick again. Recommendations were to test for fungal infection. Was told this was a rediculously expensive test and not cost effective. Ok. Doomed. Right eye goes bad. Told it would cost hundreds a month to maintain the eye and that still was not a guarantee. ($37 a month) is all it will cost. Possible surgery on that eye 900-1200 still no guarantees. I get nothing is ever a guarantee and yes these costs are beyond what we could afford. However,!!!!!!! SECOND OPINION: lung X-ray looks like fungal infection. Remember what I said above about specialist suggested treating for fungal infection? My 2nd opinion has her boss look at the xrays, 3rd opinion basically. Looks like fungal infection. Fungal infection in dogs causes limping, glaucoma (hence eye damage that was not there before) and pneumonia. All my dog developed during this course! So, treat for fungal infection? At this point let's try it! My boys eye could be corrected with treatment of the fungal infection. Nothing is guaranteed ever. But don't ever hide stuff from me that could work. I am no Dr, but I am pretty smart and have 26 years in the medical field. When it comes to my family, friends or animals I will go the extra mile. If i have the means to help and you need it, I will help my family, friends or animals. I will become mama bear and there will be Hell to pay if we are not on the same page. read more

I love these vets! I normally see Dr. Murphy, but I've also seen the newer woman and they're both fantastic. The other people who work in the office are also really wonderful! Everyone takes the time to answer my questions, even when I call with weird stuff, like "my kitten has extra fangs - should I be worried?" They're always polite, helpful, and they explain everything very thoroughly. Clearly they are all animal lovers themselves and understand the hold that fuzzy critters can have over a person! The only minor complaint I have is that I wish they allowed payment plans. Sometimes paying for everything upfront is difficult - I can't afford to have my dog's teeth cleaned, for example, because it's so expensive - and it would be very helpful if they would allow their patients to make payments every month on bigger expenses like that. Otherwise, University Park is an excellent veterinary clinic that I would recommend to anyone! read more

I love this vet hospital. I have to admit that Dr. Murphy is my favorite, but we have been going here for nearly 15 or more years. I have no complaints. One of our dogs had heart worm problems, and I think Dr. Murphy slept with him the whole night at the hospital instead of going home! Everybody else has also been great. People and staff are happy and helpful. Compared to a couple of other places we have been, this place is top notch! It is expensive though, and I can see why people have had to give up their pets. We have both a dog and a cat. They have been well cared for. read more

The staff and Doctors at University Park Vet Hospital are the most wonderful group. Dr. Jeff and I have shared the lives of my 11 now, four pawed children. We have shared the joys and sorrows together and he has always been the most compassionate advocate for the health and well being of my kids. I know everyone better than I know my own doctor and we even named one of our Collie rescues Gretchen, after she saved her from sure doom. I know that we still have many joys of Sharing the lives of our best friends ahead of us and I look forward to the future. read more

Absolutely the best veterinary hospital in the area! I can't say enough good things about Dr. Vogl and his staff. Dr. Vogl has helped us through the lives of four of our four legged children, dealing with everything from Parvo, allergies, and the hard decisions at the end, with as much care and concern as we have for them. I have had several times over the years when I have called with questions and have always had my calls returned the same day with advice or a request to see the patient. The love for animals shines through in each and every visit. I wouldn't take my pup anywhere else. A satisfied fur baby parent for the last 20 plus years! read more

BEST of the BEST!!! Dr. Vogl has been our vet since 1986! We started out with him when he was in South Bend and followed him ever since then to the present location. He has given phenomenal care to each and every one of our furry kiddos through all the years, and their have been many. He is everything you wou,d want in a vet. Knowledgeable, compassionate, caring, understanding, excellent in explaining and answering any questions, etc -including a great sense of humor. He treats your furry family member like his own. All ours have always loved going to see him! He has gone above beyond with his care and treatment when a condition warranted. The staff is also the best!!!! The facility is always extremely clean. We would give UPVH 10 stars if we could. Highly recommend all the way. read more

I took my sick pet in recently - had to make a late appointment ... which felt like I was asking for a kidney. I told them it was not possible to get out of work early ... I ended up having to anyway. Sorry teenagers, I didn't mean to make you stay late to GOD FORBID do the job your being paid to do. The newer staff they have are not that compassionate. This blonde tech was more worried about upselling me vaccinations than trying to figure out what was wrong with my pet (I sure hope she isn't planning on becoming a vet ... if she does, she better fix her people skills). They put him on an antibiotic and is now throwing up bile (over a week later) and still not feeling well. I'm going to a different vet on monday ... I love Dr. Murphy, but I am not going to pay $270 for a misdiagnosis by some other random vet that's working there ... and have my pet still sick! Some "hospital". read more

We took our pets to this practice for 10 years and started out seeing Dr. K. Murphy. I drove 25 minutes just to see her. She was so kind and compassionate regarding our animals. She never pushed meds and tried to find a natural remedy first. Only after I called, and specifically asked to see Dr. Murphy, did they tell me she was no longer there. After she left, we started seeing the new female veterinarian. Whenever we took our elderly dog, we were always coming home with some kind of med. One in particular, Rimadol, which was suppose to help with arthritis. Our dog had a severe reaction to it. When I called to let them know, Dr. Vogel indicated that he had NEVER heard of any reaction like the one I described. I find that hard to believe considering you can look up the reactions on-line and in some cases dogs have died because of the med. His reaction made me feel like I didn't know what I was talking about, when I had seen it first hand with my dog, by the way he was a very big part of my life for 13 years. After seeing another vet, we were told that our dog never had arthritis, which was confirmed by x-rays. When we told Dr. Vogel, he said, he prescribes Rimadol to all dogs that come in with joint pain. After we lost our dog, we called to let them know that we would be moving our animals to another vet, because we were not comfortable with their practice. Dr. Vogel personally called us back to ask why. He indicated that the passing of our dog was basically our fault and that it was America and we could take our other pets anywhere we wanted! MInd you, at the time to of his call, our dog had not even been gone 24 hours. So for compassion, a big fat ZERO. If you want compassion and a practice who really cares for your pet, in most cases, a furry family member, DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! Dr. Vogel comes across as he can do no wrong regarding his practice and always seems to have some med that will fix the problem regardless if your pet needs it or not!!!!!!! read more

My cat got a flu or some virus a while back. I took her to a vet but she did not heal after over two weeks. She had a sever pain in her abdomen and her rear parts. I called the University Park Veterinary Hospital to schedule an appointment, and the soonest they could see her was in five days (as if sick animals stay sick forever). They could not be more inconsiderate and irresponsible. Brought her in after five days and the first question I was asked was if I wanted to have her vaccinated? And the follow-up question was "do you want to microchip your cat?" Right then I realized that these people are just after my money (who vaccinates a creature who is in pain and running a fever?!). But what could I do, my kitty was in pain so I told them no and explained her problems to them. They said they need to test her blood to see what is going on and I agreed. They took her to the other room and I heard my cat screaming like never before, I was not even sure if it was really her or some other cat. They came back and said they could not draw blood from her (really?), and that they have to sedate her and keep her in the hospital for the day (now you get where this is going). This of course costs me some nonsense $$$. I told them no and took my cat home and called another vet. The other vet let me drop her off the next day and drew blood from her without sedation. read more
