MEMORY CARE UNIT IS NOT A SAFE PLACE FOR LATE ALZHEIMER RESIDENTS…read more My mother could no longer care for my father at home at age 93 with late-stage Alzheimer. She had to make a 3-day decision because the hospital could not keep him there. She paid more than 10K a month at this Memory Care. She was impressed by the delicious food, clean environment, locked doors to outside Pavillion area and easy access for her visits. She did not know the questions to ask about trained staff for Alzheimer residents and about the high turnover of staff monthly. They do have one day and one night nurse and CNAs on the Memory Care side, but they also were taking care of the ALF side of the facility. There was supposed to be activities for the Memory Care unit but when we visited we did not see any. My dad progressed quickly into complete loss of memory and speech. He had some balance issues. There was no exercise program and someone who would help him eat. He could say a few words still, but didn't know us. He was not changed daily and his sheets were bloody from abrasions on his back and sometimes no sheets at all on the bed with a very rough mattress. He was always cold and asked for the thermostat to be turned up so the AC would not come on with his few words. They listened only when we put a note and told everyone who came in the room that it is too cold for dad to sleep at night or sit in the room and visit. We feel that he was neglected and abused by the staff with the abrasions, cuts, bruises, a broken nose and injured face. He also went to the hospital a few times while there. There are no video monitors in the halls or great rooms for accountability. When asked how he got hurt, most of the time they didn't know or say that he ran away from them and fell. He could only shuffle walk. We were in the process of intervening to get mother to transfer him to a smaller more experienced with Alzheimer place, when we came in for a visit and dad was laying on the bed with a death rattle with his eyes shut. We brought him home with Hospice care until he passed 2 days later. We believe he could have lived a few more months or so if he had better care and was not harmed. Please do not choose this Memory Care unit for your loved one as the lack of skilled care will cut their life short and they will just give up. My dad deserved to be treated with respect and honor and so does your loved one.

I missed my next appointment because I was given a tour and immediately knew this was the right place for my mom. The community is small, warm, and easy to navigate -- it feels like a home, not an institution. I love the intimate dining rooms and the individual living areas for each hall. Shan'a and her assistant Aixa are fantastic about keeping in touch and are always easy to reach for even minor questions. The nurses call with any updates or changes, which gives me so much peace of mind. I had been my mom's caregiver in my home, so I know firsthand how hard this job is. Arden Courts has a terrific management team and caregivers who truly care. Many of them have been there a long time -- Bernice, Jaquice, Gigi, and Kate have all given my mom so much attention and affection. My mom no longer speaks and mostly communicates with a smile, but every caregiver still stops to greet her and often gives her a hug. She's also a fall risk and likes to get up at night so she doesn't "miss anything" -- she has always been this way. The evening shift lets her stay with them in the dining room while they finish their tasks, then they tuck her into bed when she starts getting sleepy. That kind of flexibility and compassion is rare, and it means a great deal to me. Before Arden Courts, she lived in an assisted living community with her husband and complained about the food constantly. Now she enjoys her meals and the special activities the staff plans. About once a month, they host a family event, which is such a thoughtful way to bring everyone together. My daughter says it feels like a sorority house -- and honestly, I love that image. Arden Courts has been a blessing, and I'm so grateful for the care and warmth they've shown my mom.

I was at ease when I knew my dad was being so well taken care of. The facility is spacious, clean and "homey". My dad loved to walk, they have a large outside walking court, which he used often. The staff (most not all) are rude and do not communicate with family members about their loved one. They do not return phone calls. They talk rudely to the residents and about the residents to other staff members. My loved one sat in their soiled brief for over 2 hours on more than one instance because the nurse would not answer their call to take them to the restroom, which resulted in an infection. My loved one has also been given the wrong medication which resulted in an ER trip. Seniors deserve to be treated with dignity and respect, not like they are children without a say. Do yourself and your family member a favor and do not send them here for nursing/rehabilitation. I can't speak about the other parts but this area is horrible.

As of today 11-4-22 the residents are still not allowed to go to their apartments even to pick up their belongings. Many are living in hotels. The Mayflower neglected to take care of flooding which has happened in the past but this time it fried their electrical, the generator and the elevators. Here is the latest update from CEO Steve Kramer on 11-4-22: This week, we continued to make progress on repairs to our electrical system. We received two tractor trailer loads of temporary electrical gear, which are being prepared for installation once the demolition of the existing electrical equipment is complete. We expect demolition to be complete and equipment installation to begin by the middle of next week. Once temporary gear is installed and activated, we will be able to initiate elevator repairs. Again, much of this work is happening simultaneously. As you know, we originally asked residents to prepare to vacate their apartments for three to four weeks, based on information we had at the time. Next week will be the four-week mark - and while we have made monumental progress in a relatively short amount of time, given the scope of our repairs, we clearly will not be able to have residents return yet. Because we are still awaiting confirmation on lead times for some critical repair components, we cannot yet provide a specific return date - but our contractors and suppliers are working with us to expedite the process as much as possible. As soon as we are able to solidify the timeline, you will know. We've had a number of inquiries regarding concerns about the possibility for mold growth in the apartments. Please know that we are regularly monitoring the apartment towers, and both our Building Services Director and Director of Construction agree that this should not be a concern in the apartments. Check-in was quick and modern with an AI system that scans your name and takes a photo for added security. Each area is clean, organized, and secured with locks. Inside, there are inviting gathering spaces for games, activities, and entertainment, and the rooms are designed to feel like home rather than a facility. One of the most thoughtful touches I noticed in the memory care unit was the personalized photo frames outside each resident's door, often showing them with a spouse or in their younger years. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a pleasant scent throughout the building. During my visit, I saw residents enjoying themselves in different ways--some were watching TV, some resting peacefully, and others actively engaged in activities. Everything about the environment made me feel confident in the level of care and dignity provided here. If I were looking for a place for my own family, I would feel at peace choosing this community.
