I love to dance and when I mentioned a totally different twist to the typical slow "first dance" most couples do my husband was ecstatic, but with our busy schedules we were not sure how it would fit in the formula. Not to mention we planned our wedding in two months and boy did it go by fast! So where do I begin, we were on our way to California from Washington DC to meet with our photographers for our photo shoot. Meanwhile, I was doing a Yelp search for dance choreographers, since I knew there would be no time in DC and came across Emma. I thought to myself just when I saw her pic that I loved her already not to mention her clients love her too. A few days later on our way to do our engagement shoot we were talking to our photographers and his team about the plans I had for my husband and I for the week ahead, I mentioned that I booked with Emma they were all shocked. Our photographers simply said you are in great hands, she is the best and one of them proceeded to call her on the spot. They spoke a few minutes and then he handed the phone to me and we clicked instantaneously and she fit us in right away. From our initial phone call, dance practices, days leading up to the wedding, and after I cannot express how thankful we were to have met Emma. She is a beautiful, genuine, fun, real, energetic, and not to mention awesome dancer! We had less than a week to choreograph 5 different genres of music including Persian, Armenian, French/ Arabic, and Spanish with different tempos and movement, but we made it happen, thanks to Emma believing in us. So the day finally arrived, all the dance practices we did, videos we watched from our lessons, facetime sessions with Emma we could not let ourselves or Emma down. After all her students are a reflection of her and there was not one person who could not wait till we perform. So as thing don't always go as planned, the live band started to play " Aicha" (one of the songs included in our mix) because that's how and where it all started, so thanks to our countless dance practice and sessions with Emma we winged that portion. About an hour later, our dj played our mix of the first dance it was supposed to be 4 1/2 minutes but turned out to be 8 minutes. Again, thanks to Emma for prepping us and giving us the confidence to dance with our hearts and let loose. So to sum things up, Emma is like the meaning behind her name which means universal. As Jenna Dewan says "Dance doesn't have a language, Dance is a universal language, and whether you know how to dance or grew up training in dance, you have a respect for people who love to dance, and it's also visually very entertaining to watch a great dancer. I am not the kind of bride who wanted to stand and slowly sway back and forth for 3 minutes at her wedding. I wanted to have fun and do a first dance and father-daughter dance that both me and my guests would remember -- and have a blast doing so! I reached out to Emma with my goal of having a fun choreographed upbeat first dance with my husband-to-be, complete with turns, lifts, and Barry White and asked if she was up for the challenge - and boy, was she! After our first class in her in-home studio, we had so much fun that I also booked a package with her to choreograph our father-daughter routine. Emma helped me set up a Father-Daughter dance mob surprise to the song from the Napoleon Dynamite movie (my dad's favorite). We started with a slow song that cut, and my dad tossed his tux jacket to my mom swapping it for a snazzy red one and we boogied down to some 70s choreography, joined for the last 30 seconds by our family and bridal party! Our guests were so impressed by our dances and could not believe it only took us about a month to learn them (with zero practice together for the mob!). They even said our dances inspired them to get out on the dance floor! Every week we went to class, Emma was positive, fun and looking forward to the next steps of our routine. She pushed us to not only learn the choreography, but to do it correctly, and as someone who was a professional cheerleader and dancer, I was so happy to work with a dancer who would make sure we looked coordinated and polished on the day. We started taking lessons with Emma to prepare for our first dance for our wedding. We wanted a dance that wasn't too choreographed but just choreographed enough to make us look good (we think she nailed this!). I walked into Emma's studio with two left feet and no rhythm and a lot of dancing blues. My wife and I went to Emma on a referral, and asked her to come up with a first dance routine for our wedding.
