We thought it might be the thermostat so we bought a Nest thermostat and thought the service man would install it. When he came he checked furnace and thermostat and agreed it was the thermostat that needed replacing. I mentioned we had purchased a Nest and asked if he could install it. He didn't seem to think the Nest was compatible. He said he had thermostats in his truck and brought one in, it was a simple Honeywell thermostat. I asked how much it was going to cost, he said $600.00 for thermostat and install. We said no, too expensive. He charged $173.00 for approx 20-30 minutes of his time. I wrote a check. I called another company and had another serviceman come to give me a quote. He took a quick look at the furnace and thermostat and said "there is nothing wrong with your thermostat, it has not been set up correctly." He made a slight adjustment and lo and behold the thermostat is working perfectly! Nice to know there are still some honest people making an honest living. I will call this company any time and trust what they tell me. One thing I didn't mention earlier was that the furnace and thermostat was working last winter. However this past summer I did have another serviceman from Unique come to check if it would be possible to have a humidifier connected to the furnace. I can't say for sure that he touched the thermostat. He may have changed the setup and left without changing it back? Can't say for sure, but mighty suspicious Since we never mess with the setup. Either way, the serviceman from Unique was either totally incompetent or dishonest and just trying to sell me a thermostat for $600.00. I called the company several times, but they never respond. I will never use them again or refer anyone to them. SM

I was incredibly impressed by how quickly Affordable HVAC responded, with a technician arriving within 30 minutes. The technician was on-site for about 45 minutes total, seemed knowledgeable, and checked the pressure in addition to diagnosing the problem. He identified a swollen capacitor, a clear sign of failure. I was a bit confused during the diagnosis, as I had observed my unit turning on and blowing marginally cold air before his arrival, and he stated a bad capacitor would prevent the unit from turning on at all; perhaps there was a misunderstanding or a communication gap regarding the nuanced stages of capacitor failure, or it failed completely just prior to his check. He then proceeded to efficiently replace the capacitor very quickly, getting my AC up and running in about 15 minutes. Before starting the work, I was quoted $420, which I agreed to at the time. In the literal heat of the moment (it was 85 degrees!), I blame myself for not voicing my concern about the price and simply wanting my AC fixed. After the repair was complete and he was preparing the bill, he asked if I would be leaving a review. When I said yes, he offered a discount, bringing the total down to $390. While I'm very happy my AC is fixed and truly appreciate the fast, effective service, I do feel that the final cost of $390 was quite high for such a straightforward and quick capacitor replacement. As someone who is handy and has even tackled much harder DIY projects (like replacing an entire sump pump last year), and later learned the part itself costs around $30 locally, I couldn't help but feel the price was on the steeper side for this specific fix. Frankly, if the total had been closer to $290, I honestly wouldn't be having this buyer's remorse, and it truly would have been a 5-star experience. The irony of the company name, 'Affordable HVAC,' was certainly not lost on me given the cost. Ultimately, you live and learn.
