Great meal plans ( not full meals which was told to us from the beginning ) but the variety and selections of food were amazing ! I have nothing to complain about this was an experience we never had but NEEDED. The cameras are accessible from day one , so if you feel you need to monitor your child through out the day you can ! We got so comfortable to the point after a couple weeks we didn't even look at the camera. I never feared for my child's safety inreally have the upmost respect for the staff. Dealing with young children with a count of 15+ in one room can be challenging , but I've never not ONE TIME saw the staff discouraged or exhausted from their day. CHEERS ... Apparently he had a hard time transitioning from one activity to the next ( something that I thought would be taught while in preschool?) It was suggested I look into a child study as well. I was made to think maybe something was wrong with my son. I decided to give another preschool a try ( a real Christian school). It took a few days but he eventually got into a good routine. He has done so well that I realized it wasn't my child... it was the lack of care and unwillingness of not one but two teachers ! I am sorry but there is just no excuse . Our new school has been around for over 30 years and expressed to me how in all that time they have never turned away a child. that's when I realized I wasn't dealing with a Christian School that actually wanted to help children. they are more interested in collecting what funds they can without having to put in much effort and that is just sa.. my son was not given a proper chance. My children were in daycare at Harvest Ministries (HM) for eight months before we pulled them out…read more One of the main reasons we chose this place was because of the overwhelming number of positive reviews. But I can tell you that this place has numerous problems, and will outline why I don't recommend this center: 1. A wise person once wrote in a review that you should always check inspection reports for any daycare facility you are looking to send your children too. HM never had any inspection reports posted because they are a religiously-exempt facility, and UNlicensed despite their care.com flyer saying they are. However, as I checked back to post the link, they do have an inspection report posted; apparently some complaints triggered the state to do an inspection (they still have to comply with VA code even though they are religiously exempt from other state requirements). That report (http://www.dss.virginia.gov/facility/search/cc2.cgi?rm=Details;ID=41580;search_exact_fips=199) indicates numerous egregious issues, like failing to get background checks done on their employees (are you kidding me?!), not ensuring children are immunized, and failing to meet required staff-to-child ratios. 2. This facility has a TV in every room and they use it to babysit the kids. Every morning the kids watch TV from 6-8am (approx..) and again in the afternoon when they wake up from nap, from 3:30-6pm. That doesn't include the other movies and shows they watch throughout the day. So if you work regular hours, your kid will probably get exposed to 2+ hours of TV a day. 3. The teachers yell at the kids ALL. The. Time. They also threaten. I once observed one of the teachers taking a group of kids to the restroom, and she said to them in a stern voice, "If you don't have to go potty and you're just making it up you're going in time out." So if a little kid felt like maybe she had to use the bathroom but wasn't sure, she was going to get punished for trying. Totally unnecessary. I have also observed teachers grabbing kids by the shoulders, yelling at them and saying things like, "if you don't calm down you're going to lose your playtime!!" Instead of positive discipline, they just yell a lot. I noticed this negatively affecting my 3-year-old in his behavior when he came home - he would be defiant and irritable. While pretty much all kids this age have tempers, he would really only act this way when he came home from HM. 4. Safety concerns: One time while I was dropping my younger child off in the infant room, I noticed a remote control lying on the floor (yes, they even have a tv in the infant room, though it is mostly used to play music videos of nursery rhymes all day), so I picked the remote up off the floor and placed it on the ledge out of reach, saying "this is a safety hazard and should be kept away from the little ones' reach". The director mocked me, saying, "We've never had an issue with it." "But don't you see," I said, "they could get into the batteries - it's a safety issue" The battery cover wasn't even taped shut. "Whatever makes you feel comfortable" the director said to me in a completely sarcastic and condescending tone. Like I was the one overreacting. Isn't it plain common sense to keep anything with non-screwed on batteries like a remote out of babies' reach? 5. The toys are dirty and rarely cleaned. On more than a few occasions, while settling my younger child in to the tiny play area in the infant room, I noticed dirty, grimy toys with so much filth on them I had to put them aside and tell the teachers that these toys needed to be cleaned. I'm not a clean-freak but it was disgusting. 6. The center does NOT want you, the parent, to see your child in their classrooms. In fact, you, the parent, are not allowed to walk around the facility "unsupervised" (this is what one of the teachers actually said to me). EVERY other daycare center we have used has had an open door policy with parents. But I was told I needed to drop off my kids at the front and they would take them back to their classrooms, the only exception is the infant room. But when I would stay for a few minutes and play with my little one, I'd get text messages from them saying I needed to just drop her off and go so she would learn to be without me. This lack of encouraging parents to be involved really bothered me. The director told me they do this to mirror the public schools, but I now realize that's a big cover-up, because there are myriad other ways they don't mirror public schools. In retrospect, I wish we had never allowed our kids to go here. I wish there had been reviews saying what it's really like there, and we would have made a different decision, but we assumed a daycare run by a Christian church would be a great environment. The fact that they didn't do background checks on their employees alone is completely reckless and inexcusable.

For the past few weeks the daycare teacher has been reporting that my 3 year old son has been…read morehaving issues with getting potty trained and has been throwing tantrums. So the school director suggested that we get some help from a specialist which I took into consideration, my wife returned to the school the next day to speak to the director regarding my son's behavior. As she was speaking to the director my wife was looking into my son's classroom and observed the teacher yank my son by the arm and then proceed to pull him and push him into a time out chair. Mom immediately stepped in and removed my son and told the teacher don't ever put your hands on my child like that again. When speaking to the director she requested that the video from yesterday be pulled to review what might be the cause of my son's tantrums. I returned with my wife to view the video the director said she was unable to do that but she does have video from the incident that happened this morning and I should watch it before I say anything, which I agreed. Upon watching the video I saw my son pick up a chair that was on the floor and another child promptly sit in the chair, I'm assuming my son said to the child that he was going to sit there and they began to argue (no hitting or pushing was involved) which got the teachers attention she immediately turned and grabbed my son by the arm and pulled him away from the chair, after exchanging a brief comment with my son she then dragged him by the arm and put him into the chair. I then said to the director why did she pull my son by the arm in such a fashion, she replied because he hit the other child, I said "no he didn't show me where on the video", she clarified no that's what the teacher said! We just watched the whole incident and as you can see my son did not hit anyone. She remained defensive and then her husband said we don't do stuff like that here, I reminded him of what I had just witnessed on the video. The director then instructed us to leave the premises and called the police without further explanation or discussion. Prior to this incident it appeared that my son was in a relatively stable environment, this incident calls everything they have been saying about my son into question, and the fact that they will not let me view the video of the prior day raises major concerns. When we first enrolled our son they insisted that we would be able to view video whenever we wanted without question. When your child's school becomes resistant and uncooperative to your needs as a concerned parent it's time for you to remove your child from their care. I don't think it's a bad environment for kids but I do think the management and staff need better training on how to discipline children and communicate with parents who have questions about how their child is being treated. Instead of being defensive and making excuses when a parent holds your feet to the fire regarding the daily treatment of their child. Have some relevant answers and proof to back up your story, what's the point of having video cameras to document what goes on in your establishment if you're not going to show it. A CPS investigation has been opened and I am following up on every available option to find out what went on in the days prior to removing my child.
