I went in for braces years ago and was fitted for a retainer before my two veneers were put in. Now years later I am stuck with a gap on the side of my mouth and need new braces. Very disappointing!! If I could do less than 1 star I would. They oversell with codes not covered under the insurance when perfectly acceptable treatment is available. We had to pay up front for the entire plan but then changed the plan, which should have resulted in a refund. It's been 2 months and the money that was to be credited back 2 weeks ago still hasn't happened and when I call the office, the manager Michelle is never there. She is always on vacation or in the other office or otherwise unavailable. Hold on to your wallet if you are using this office. It has been a nightmare. I went here for the first time just for a cleaning since i don't live in pitt full time, i'm just here for school. and they immediately said i had three cavities. (i don't have any cavities and just went back to my regular dentist and he said i'm fine) and i said i can't do x rays because insurance only covers one time a year and i already got them done last 6 months but they promised it wouldn't cost anything and they would waive it but we just got insurance statement and it says they did charge to insurance. horrible people and they try to scam you. if you go here, don't trust what they say. read more

My husband had a tooth issue and needed to get an emergency check-up. We were told they were in-network and when we went, we left early before work could be done due to reading the bad reviews online. It turns out, while Emmert Dental itself (allegedly) accepts MetLife, the dentist my husband saw does not. We got a $539 bill that we are now going to fight, as we were charged for a procedure that was not done. Sadly, we are now in the group of bad reviews for this place. We should have read through the terrible reviews beforehand! To others: do NOT go to this dentist's office! We are so mad we didn't research beforehand due to the emergency. I see Dr. Solomon. I have been in a crunch to get my dental work cared for since I am getting braces and jaw surgery soon. I am naturally a very patient person and understanding, but have had a run of bad dentist. When he numbs you up on the bottom half, he will literally jab your jaw multiple times to the point of being in tears (my S.O has to come with me because it's so anxiety inducing). My cavities have hurt and right now I have temporary crowns and have been hurting since I got them (I don't take pharma but have went through a whole bottle of advil in 5 months since starting with him). Avoid this place, it's a quick get your money dental place and out. I will be finding a new dentist once my last crown is cared for. read more

UPDATED REVIEW! Thumbs down!!! I have never encountered such an disorganized and unprofessional practice until I came to Emmett Dental. My current dental insurance is a DHMO plan that when I signed up I had little knowledge of reputable dentists in the area. With that said, I selected Emmert since they seemed to be a good network. When I signed up, I selected the Market Square location thinking that I could go to any Emmert location in the area. After that, I scheduled an appointment at the Robinson location. I went to the appointment and when I checked in, I was advised that I needed to change my insurance to the Robinson location. I went ahead and did that through my insurance and they accepted me as a patient that day. I received a cleaning and bitewing/full mouth series X-ray. After completing that appointment, I scheduled an appointment for the following week. Later in the week, I was contacted by the Robinson location's office manager. She advised that they did not receive information that I changed my insurance to their location. I assured her that it was changed and she stated that she would call me back once confirmed. Shortly thereafter, she called back and confirmed that my insurance was changed to their location. However, I was informed that I was not on their "roster" and that I couldn't be seen for an appointment until the following month. At that point, I told the office manager that it won't be necessary to schedule an appointment for the following month since these business practices were far from acceptable as treating a new patient. The office manager also wasn't a pleasant person and wasn't willing to work with me considering that location had already seen me as a patient. A few days later, I went ahead and contacted my dental insurance company and switched to another dentist office in the area that wasn't Emmert. That new office requested that I obtain my X-rays from Emmert so that they could evaluate. I then contacted Emmert requesting this information to be released which I was advised that I would need to sign a release form (which is understandable). I then provided a fax number to the office manager (who I had great pleasure of dealing with once again, *sarcasm). Once again, she was far from being pleasant and helpful to my request. It actually took me 3 phone calls to have the form faxed over to me. Not sure what their excuse was, but it was obvious that she did not care about sending it. After this request was completed, I was advised that the records would be mailed to my new dentist. Fast forward to 2 weeks later, my new dentist office never received any X-ray records. At this point, I was utterly baffled on how terrible this practice is run. I then called Emmert once again... Luckily I was able to speak with someone other than the office manager. This person, one of the hygienist said that they would personally take care of mailing out the films. After I completed my phone call, my new dentist office called and advised that they spoke with the office manager who indicated that they were "waiting to confirm if I was transferring to their office." As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter which office I go to and frankly it's none of their business. If I wanted to get a second opinion from another dentist, I can do that. But in this case, it was me removing myself from this horribly run office. Best advice, STAY AWAY from Emmert Dental and find another dentist. ****UPDATE**** The office never sent the X-Rays and it took more phone calls to this office. Later they sent a photo copy of a copy of the X-rays which made them impossible to evaluate. Luckily with my dental insurance, it was no cost for me to have the new X-rays completed at the new dentist office. Also, when the dentist at this location evaluated my teeth he indicated that I had 6 cavities (which I completely disagreed with since I take great care of my teeth). New evaluation by new dentist indicated ZERO cavities whatsoever. So unless there was some act of god or the pending lunar eclipse had some adverse effect on my cavities miraculously healing or the dentist at Emmert is a complete FRAUD trying to bill for work that isn't needed at all. read more

Would not recommend. I've never had a cavity, but recognize that it could happen so when they told me that I was starting to get one I asked what I needed to do. They recommended fluoride treatment, which of course my insurance doesn't cover and additional cleanings, which also my insurance does not cover. I paid for these services. But what caused my dissatisfaction was when the dentist stated that my cavity needed to be filled, but it was in a DIFFERENT location then from where he had originally stated I was developing one! I went to a different dentist, they took X-rays and I never said that the previous dentist told me I had a cavity. He said everything looks good. I said are you sure? He said yes, no cavities my teeth looked great. I then told him what happened and he again said no I don't see any cavities! This is the office in Settlers Ridge Robinson! read more

I recently accompanied my adult daughter while she had to have several root canals. Tech was fine. Absolutely terrible, completely unprofessional, did not know how to bill. Billing lady/secretary. She was in a hurry because it was evening. My daughter ended up paying over 4 grand on her personal credit and will have to deal w reimbursed. All this while my daughter was still waiting to go back to have her final root canal. She was nasty in the way she spoke, she caused unnecessary stress, impatient and honestly just a nightmare. read more

I went here to have my teeth cleaned and they told me they found a cavity. Since I have never had a cavity in my life, I asked the dentist to show it to me on the x-ray and he said he wasn't able to. I didn't feel comfortable with his diagnosis so I went to another dentist (whose office is not a chain like Emmert) and that dentist did not find a cavity. This was three years ago and my teeth are fine, still no cavities. I don't believe in going to a dental chain and I don't recommend anyone else goes either. I have read horrible articles about their pushy sales tactics and performing un-needed procedures which is what I would have experienced at Emmert had I not been smart enough to find a second opinion. There are better, independent dentists in the area and I recommend people to go to them. read more

My first visit to this office was in November for a cleaning and check-up. After discovering a cavity and slight crack in my wisdom teeth, it was opined to go ahead and have them extracted. I made an appointment to do so for January with the same Robinson Township office, but weeks before the date, I received a call saying that they wanted to do a follow up consultation and another Emmert Dental office in Bethel Park (which was 30 minutes from my home). I completed that consultation earlier this week and after meeting with yet another Emmert dentist, it was decided to leave the wisdom teeth in for now and have the cavity treated. Only they couldn't go that service and I needed to make an appointment back with the Robinson Township office. Low and behold, today I received a $75.00 bill for the "consultation" and I still haven't had the cavity treated. I'm honestly not sure if they're simply incompetent and don't communicate from location to location, or they're simply making every effort possible to up-charge my treatments by bouncing me back and fourth from office to office. read more

Then with clear mind i change my mind about product didn't need it, i let them know. Came to follow up appointment and still tried forcing product, with a clear mind i said no. The worst dental office I ever been. No one can beat it!!! You should avoid it at any time.

Despite the low rating here on Yelp, I don't feel this dental office is all that bad. The office looks new or renovated, clean and organized. Emmert Dental has three locations: Settler's Ridge, Market Square and Bethel Park. I'm usually a patient of the Market Square location of Emmert Dental and so far, I prefer the Settler's Ridge location. I came here for an emergency appointment and this was the only office that could squeeze me in. I arrived 15 minutes early and they called me back exactly at my appointment time. The assistant was so friendly and made me feel comfortable at all times. The doctor was also friendly and made a great effort to make sure I left satisfied. I was in and out in a matter of minutes and the service was great. read more

I was forced to pay for a service that my insurance covers 100% and they refuse to refund my money. My husband went in for an annual exam and they told him he needed 2 root canals. He had no pain and had never had any work on his teeth done before, not even a filling. They also said he needed scaling and root planing. So we scheduled the two S&RP appointments. During the first visit, I went with him and they then said he needed 3 root canals and 4 fillings!! He was never told this on his first visit. So I called them back that night to discuss a treatment plan. They would not let me talk to the dentist or set up a time to do so. They said she would review the chart and they would call me back. They did not. So we went for the second half of the S&RP and they told us 6 fillings and 3 root canals. I told her to have the dentist check the chart and call me back. I also needed the office manager to give me payment information. She called around 7 pm that night and said it was SEVEN fillings and at least one root canal, so we should keep the root canal appointment we had made. I asked if it made more sense to bring him in for an exam and then decide what to do. She said, no for sure he needs at least one root canal. I tried to explain that it isn't fair to my husband to have him numb multiple times when they could just do everything at once. That makes more sense for their schedule and for his quality of life. So I told her to give me all the teeth numbers that they say need work and I canceled the appointment. We got a second opinion. 3 areas need fillings, none of which need drilling (like Emmert said). They were quoting me well over $2500. The second dentist said it will cost $84.40 to get ALL of the work done...in one sitting! AND I called the insurance company to see how much I had left o nmy deductible (etc) and Emmert never billed them for the scaling and root planing. They charged us out of pocket. $380. I am SO GLAD that we didn't just do whatever they told us. That would have been TEN of my husband's teeth. I have NEVER heard of someone needing that much work at one time. NEVER. Dr. Greca (spelling?) was wonderful with my exam and cleaning, but Dr. Carnivale and her BOTH looked at my husband's charts. They were definitely taking us for a ride. THE WORST DENTAL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. THEY ARE BUTCHERS! My husband and I went to Emmert Dental in Bethel Park for a routine cleaning and check up. I had one tooth that I had a recent root canal on and a few small cavities that needed filled. After the so called dentist - Dr Carnavali - did my exam, I needed 3 additional root canals and an extraction! An extraction on the tooth that just had a root canal. I was told that part of the tooth had broken off and that a crown was no longer possible. I didn't know any better, so I agreed to schedule the extraction for a few weeks later. The "dentist" wanted to extract it that day, but I had plans for the weekend and was not about to be in pain. So, 2 weeks later, I went in for the extraction. After they gave me novocaine they get me with "you need a bone graft also in that area since we are extracting that tooth". I have never had any issues with bone loss with previous extractions so I didn't feel it was necessary. I had 3 employees surrounding me, pressuring me for this bone graft. So, I reluctantly agreed. I had to pay $259.00 for this "bone graft". So, I signed everything. I wasn't even given enough time to read the document, so I should have known and got up and left right then and there. The "dentist" started the extraction. I have never been so uncomfortable in my life. He pulled on my tooth, used a metal instrument to pound on my tooth and was pulling so hard that my head was coming up and slamming back down against the head rest. Finally, after a good 15 minutes of this torture, he ripped the tooth out of the side of my jaw. I was literally ganging from all the blood running down the back of my throat. He then stuck some pink powder up in the extraction area. I'm assuming this was the bone graft. I ended up with many stitches. I was given an antibiotic and instructed to schedule an appointment for the following Saturday so they could start the bridge. Then I was hit with a bill of $569.00! My insurance covers 100% of extractions. I was in so much pain for 2 weeks following the extraction. Pain severe enough that I had to call off work and I couldn't sleep at night. I refused to go back to Emmert Dental. And after a visit to a very reputable dentist, an endodontist and an oral surgeon, I have to have oral surgery to try and repair the damage Emmert Dental has done to my mouth. They caused a very large deformity in my jaw and I am at risk to lose additional teeth. Save yourself a lot of time, money and pain. Emmert dental only cares about the money, will over charge you and leave you less than happy with the dental work. They are butchers and should not even call themselves dentist. And if you have an issue with their billing practices, don't expect to that resolved easily. I have called numerous times and I am always told that the manager and or billing department is not in. I have contacted the BBB and a lawyer. I expect and want a full refund. No one should have to go thru what I am currently going thru. They do unnecessary extractions so they can do a more expensive procedure such as a bridge or an implant. Now I have to go thru oral surgery, more pain and suffering and more time missed from work because of Emmert Dental. And the root canals they said I needed, my current dentist and my endodontist both agreed that I do not need tooth canals. In fact, the teeth are perfectly healthy. Horrible Practice!! Please save yourself the hassle & go anywhere but here! The office manager is so rude & unprofessional that it's hard to believe they would employ such an individual! My husband & I loved the dentist but were placed in a very uncomfortable situation when we both were told we needed crowns. We have amazing dental insurance & never in our history of having dental work ever paid more than 100$ max for work that was done. The day we both had our crowns, the office manager insisted before she even billed to our insurance company, we both owed an 800$ co pay! Thats 1,600 $ that she argued & basically threatend us to pay before we left! Furious that this was how we were treated, we contacted our insurance company immediately, long story short...we ended up only owing 200$ in co pays!! Our insurance company was working with them so we could be reimbursed & even couldn't believe how rude they were especially given the fact it was their mistake! It took a month and a half for us to get our money back! On top of it all we tried to get ourdental records so we could go eles where & the office manager refused to prepare them for us stating the next practice we go to can request a copy of them, we dont just give patients records...Um What?? They're our records...it's our information?? Please whatever you do..just dont even, you ll regret it for sure!! read more

Dr Gureka is great, but sometimes I end up with the owner of the place instead and he is awful. He's more of a salesperson than a dentist. He tried to sell me on whitening then fluoride treatments, when I declined he told me I had cavities. I came back and saw dr gureka and she said I had no cavities. I gave 4 stars for her. I recommend emmert dental if you see her, but not the owner. read more

My husband and I have been patients at Emmert Dental in Bethel Park. I suffer from xerostomia from having cancer treatment. It causes me to need dental care. I have put my faith into Dr. Carnivali. I Still believe he is a very good dentist, but maybe root happy to make more money. The office billed us both over what we should have paid because they are a participating dentist with our insurance. I also have a supplemental insurance through AFLAC. We have been overpaying for years. I found out that they are to go by the network fee. They were billing us from their retail fee which is $1,450 for a crown. I have found another dentist who charges $850.00 for a crown and I hardly had to pay anything due to having two insurances. It is so nice to finally find a truthful dentist. I have been waiting for our credit and have been told it is in the mail. We have waited and waited. They are know saying that they are putting a stop payment on that check and will mail out another one. I doubt this will happen. I have seen other reviews that they needed a lawyer to get there credit. If they are charging more than the network fee, they are billing wrong. and you are overpaying. read more

Dr. Carnavalli is an awful dentist, the receptionists are extremely rude, and the entire experience I had at Emmert Dental still haunts me today, 3 months after I had 6 fillings on the left side of my mouth. While I was told that I would need only 4 fillings, Dr. Carnavalli went ahead and filled a few more just for the heck of it. That is not okay, especially since my insurance did not cover the full cost of each filling. Now i'm sitting with an out of pocket expense of $550! But regardless, putting financials aside, the procedure Dr. Carnavalli performed resulted in temporary bels palsy of the left side of my face, and immense pain in every single tooth on the left side of my mouth for about 2 months. I tried to go back to see him two days after the fillings because of the extreme pain and the receptionist was extremely rude and showed absolutely no courtesy in giving me a time slot. After 2 months, I still could not chew anything except mushy food, so I sought another dentists opinion. This new dentist was apalled that a dentist could perform 6 fillings on one side of the mouth in one sitting. I had to have an expensive root canal and crown to fix the damage Dr. Carnavalli did because Dr. Carnavalli drilled too deep when performing the fillings. Now, 3 months since visiting Emmert Dental, i'm still unable to eat anything crunchy, too hot, or too cold, and at the ripe old age of 26, am going back to the dentist for another possible root canal. Just for context, I never had a single cavity before seeing Dr. Carnavalli, and just 3 months before, was told by another dentist that my teeth were in great shape. Now, i'm in pain every single day. Easily the worst dentist experience of my life. I've never been afraid of the dentist so I wasn't concerned going into this office, although it appears I should have been. The hygienist was fine, cleaned my teeth with no issues. But after the dentist told me I had FOUR cavities I became worried. I wanted to get them filled as soon as possible because I was headed to California for work for the summer and I didn't want to worry about having problems there. I had the cavities filled and while I was in California I had constant pain in the largest cavity area (three were very small). As soon as I returned to PA after three months, I returned to my previous dentist and found out that my cavity had been filled on top of an eroded root so I need to have a root canal now. I haven't been able to eat on the right side of my mouth since June. Needless to say, I will NOT be returning to the settlers ridge location, or any, for that matter. read more
