I've gone to this beauty school twice in the last eight months for a basic trim and both times was disappointed, but the last time was it for me! DO NOT go to this school for even a basic hair cut! When you call for an appt. and go in and they don't have you on the calendar, warning sign! Then they "squeeze" you in. I had a student that is scheduled to graduate in March and she butchered my hair! I went in for a trim on my long hair, middle of my back or longer, and by the time they were done "fixing" it, it is now above my shoulders! To say I am not happy is an understatement! One of the "teachers" was not very helpful in instructing the student on how to fix it and then the main instructor came over and fixed it. She apologized profusely and the student kept apologizing and then they had the audacity to charge me! I was so mad I just paid it and left! I couldn't even speak. Yes, I know it's a "school", but you are supposedly getting your hair cut with a senior student who should know what they are doing on a basic trim! This one obviously did not! read more

I applied to receive more info on the Scholarship program online. 30 secs later they texted me. That's great, then they called me 1 min later and the phone staff members are highly immature and rude. They don't have the proper phone etiquette. First thing she said was "How are you doing"? lol like you don't know me. She didn't say 'Thanks for your interest in EBS, this is whoever speaking'..... then she said how are you doing again. 'Not how is your day?' I went in to get my brow cleaned up and tinted, and I told them I wanted a strip of lashes.. the director of the school came and was super nice and she got the lashes and the ladies to do my brows. Don't recommend coming here if you're looking at cosmetology school not worth the money and stress they put you through. Teachers are very wishy washy and pick and choose a lot they're quite unfair and you don't learn as much as they say you do. Not inclusive at all to POC. The people in the office have this fake nice act to manipulate you to get here but when it's all said it done it was never really worth. Do more research on what you wanna do before you decided because all the good stuff they say about it isn't true and this goes for all cosmetology schools in Minnesota. read more

I've visited another Empire Beauty School in Milwaukee Wi about 8 yrs ago but this one has more of a togetherness atmosphere, the teachers come around and are present for questioning and training questions of students; where as I didn't see that in WI. Natalia did my hair she said she was nervous but she did absolutely great! I have a shop I go to in WI however beings that I was here and needed it done I decided this time with Empire Beauty School instead of JCPennys Salon. Natalia took direction from both the trainer and myself and did a good job. I just just wish I'd made it back before 4:30 to tip her. read more

It's like I had every right to be there, but I was only able to interact with specific people. Walking through those doors as a black male student already made me feel like people were hoping that the extra pressures put on me, would bring about my instincts, and prove my ignorance. So I dropped out because, I felt like a distraction to my peers. I Wish I felt like more of a student in a part time night class. It was as though my experience there was to be picked probed and manipulated into not wanting to be there. Soon as I said I wanted to drop out leadership jumped at the opportunity. Just disappointing how easy it was to confirm my drop out and discredit the rest of my hours in theory. It felt as though there was a "condition" to becoming accepted as a cosmetologist here. I was always on time and ready for class very open and responsive if anything, I felt as though I was a model for professionalism and ambition. Never mind the effort, they wanted to make sure I got to where "I needed to be". Clearly I didn't deserve to go to school with such "ambitious" professionals. Maybe I'm where I deserve to be.? Either way they will sell you an idea before they go through with actual commitments. I mean after all, me attending school didn't pay my bills. It's not like I paid for a fair chance or even a real opportunity. Saying stuff like this in person only warrants Defensive responses. I don't feel wronged, I feel obligated to share my experience, and this place is not about "HEALTH OR BEAUTY" in an individual sense. People seemed miserable following rules or maybe that was just when I was around. Don't waste your time here if you wish for high expectations. I Refuse to lower my standards, specifically at a school that's funded to follow major guidelines while holding students "accountable". Just about Over a hundred women and 3 guys, sorry correction 2 guys in attendance at this school That should tell you about the environment.! I've shared peacefully, it's off my chest, probably shouldn't expect my return. This is my opinion in combination with the Authority I lost as a developing individual here. read more

I was really impressed with Imani Nurse's treatment of my hair. I was really impressed and greatly surprised that she washed my hair completely three times and then also, like you're supposed to do apply a solution to my scalp. I was extremely impressed with her. As far as I know, I have never had any beautician, either student or professional wise, that has ever done this before. I kind of know how hair is to be treated as I have had two people in my family who have been hairdressers. I normally do not give bad reviews. I know what it's like being in the service industry and bad reviews don't always tell the whole story. I will.say I made a 5:45 appointment. I patiently waited as the student who was to cut my hair was late and I was ok with that. Waited about 15 to 25 min. Finally got sat in a chair and waited another 25 minutes before anyone communicated with me as the stylist disappeared. Apparently she was sick. Ok I can understand that, but after waiting an hour with no communication is absolutely ridiculous. I have never had such poor service. I usually love to support the students and get my hair cut there but after this I don't think I'll ever go back. read more

My hair was very long and tangled and no professional would want to deal with it. I called Empire and they said it was no problem. It took them a long time to get through it but they never complained and got it done. I had it cut short. The supervisor tweaked the cut a little and it turned out very cute. I received compliments on it. I hope that my next visit will be as successful! read more

so yesterday i come in with my sister shes a little girl , now her hair type is 4b hair and its really thick , now if you CAN NOT work with that hair type then you should not accept that client or shouldn't be doing hair. so she gets seated in the chair they wash do all of that stuff. now keep in mind we're paying for her hair to get straighten , so a Mexican lady starts to work on her hair , and then another Mexican lady comes and starts to work on her hair ( red flag ) now she needed her ends clip and when you clip ends you shouldn't be cutting chunks of hair and they were doing that to my sister , and i didn't even notice until the next day , so then they had a white lady working on her hair as well so it's 3 lady's working on her hair , at this point they should've just said they couldn't do it . after she was done it didn't look bad ... so we payed and left now the next day my sister hair went from straighten to fuzzy they didn't even moisturize her hair and also after they were done with her hair a black hair stylist came up to me and said next time have me do her hair. so the next day when her hair was fuzzy , me n her realized they cut so much of her hair off and you could tell like really easily and my sister started crying cause she loves her hair , and i'm just so disappointed they would even try to do her hair knowing they probably had no experience with African American hair , i dont recommended this place at all it's horrible. read more

I would never go back there again. They didn't listen to me or give me the color I wanted. Once the color was completed I got home and saw clumps of color. It looks awful. Then I had a manicure and the selection of colors are horrible and small amount of colors to choose. The finger polish was old and clumpy. They don't give full manicures. I got my money back for the manicure. Don't go there. They have outdated means of doing hair. read more

Empire will forever have my heart!! I was positive from the beginning this was the right school for me. With warm welcomes from literally everyone, to finding forever friends. I couldn't be more happier with my choice to choose empire as my school. The teachers (specifically Ms. Andi and Ms. Kari) are so knowledgable, helpful and personable. They focus on that one on one time that everyone appreciates! The curriculum is AMAZING. You learn advanced things from the start which makes you an easy hire after school! I got offered many jobs on the spot for knowing what I know from Empire! I've recommended several people who have loved it just as much as me & I'll continue to do so! read more

I went in to get a bleach and tone. I had some pretty grown out blonde, with natural brown hair showing (a good 6-7 inches of natural hair). i said i wanted a full head of blonde. They asked if i wanted lowlights, i said no, and said that i wanted all blonde. Same shade on my entire head. I thought we were on the same page, but I guess not. Before i knew it, i was getting highlights?! Never once were highlights brought up by me, the instructor or the student. By the time i realized i was getting highlights I had already been there for 3 hours while the back of my head was being done. I didn't realize until she got to the front of my head that i wasn't going to walk out of there with a full head of blonde hair. The highlights are very 2000's, very chunky and thick highlights. they aren't even. They are different colors (some being platinum blonde, some being dark blonde, some yellow, some brassy colored, some spots with no highlights) so they messed up AND what i got looks horrid. I am very disappointed and now i have to go to my old hair colorist, multiple times, to fix this. This was not worth wasting my money or 5 hours of my day for really bad highlights. My first visit to Empire this morning and I'm a fan. I called on Wednesday and was able to get in right away Thursday morning...which is surprising because it was really busy. I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment, checked in and no sooner than they asked me to have a seat my stylist, Abbey came to show me to her station. Abbey is polite and professional. We chatted a bit about my curly hair which I now wanted straight. I could not have been more pleased with my experience...from the service, the price ($10 for shampoo, deep condition, blow dry and flat iron), cleanliness of the salon and how friendly everyone was...just seemed like they all were excited to be there. I will definitely go back again and see Abbey or Shareisha, who also does wonders with the flat iron. read more

STAY AWAY!!! This is going for any student or customer thinking about going here! I went to school here and it was the biggest regret of my life. The same price as Aveda too. Very ghetto, some of the teachers either don't know what they're doing or don't care or both. One of them even admitted that to me! Many of the students don't care how good of a job they do, so I would not trust them to do my hair. Before I was a student I got my hair cut by a student there, I thought I was safe with the instructor around, but no. She cut my bangs extremely short, and then cut two random slices below my bangs. I had no way of fixing it or hiding it until it grew out. If you're thinking about being a student here-DON'T. They are pretty much scam artists. They bring in companies that sell things- that have NOTHING to do with cosmetology, they sell things and take our money, and then we never get what we bought! If you're paying $80 a day to be there, why would they disrupt your learning by bringing companies in for an hour or two to try to sell you stuff? Makes no sense to me. I have friends that have gone to school at Aveda. Honestly they know so much more about hair than I do. I feel like I barely learned anything. Lesson learned the hard way. read more

Horrible school! I was a student there for 2 weeks and left after having to argue with the one of the administrator/teacher about switching to part time! Said I could not switch to part time until after 18 weeks! When I decided to transfer schools, I called the same lady to withdraw and to grab my transcript and she was getting into my personal life and later offered me the part time position. WOW, how ridiculous! After I rejected her offer, she decided to give me attitude and tell me that I will be receiving a bill of $500+ in the mail and it has to be paid and for me to get my stuff out of my locker if I was transferring and I must come after hours after 6PM because I will be "disrupting" the students in their learning. They do a horrible teaching at Empire, I am glad to be out of there. They are nice and sweet when you go in for a tour, once you are enrolled, they steal your money and have you pay for all these things that weren't even mentioned in the beginning, after I finished paying, the lady then told me that I was qualify for MN CARE and I didn't have to make anymore payments, My question was " Because I already paid it off and if they are going to take care of it, Am I going to get a refund for my 100+ payments? " She looked at me like I was stupid and said No, why would you? WOW, I can not believe how much money they stole from me. I never received my Tablet from them that I PAID FOR.
