Our experiences with Foss have been good overall - the team there has done a good job addressing challenges that have come up.

I was in the market to get my child enrolled in swim lessons when this ad pulled up on social…read moremedia. We signed our child up and have been pretty happy with the lessons overall. They mentioned that they will do a preview lesson for children (which is free) and you can decide to enroll. What is doesn't say is that children under a certain age are not eligible for the preview lesson. I had called to ask a couple of questions about what to bring and that's when they told me, so I'm glad I didn't find out when I showed up. However, you can still do a tour and look around, so that might be worthwhile if you're considering it. The first day of the lesson was pretty chaotic. They have multiple swim areas and one big family changing room with stalls, so it was a lot of people with stuff everywhere. We were not prepared and had too much stuff with us, so the first lesson was a bit of a challenge (plus it was quite cold out, so we had coats). It was packed in there with few places to sit, so that was part of the challenge. As the weeks have gone on it's been less crowded and we have figured out a good system for changing and getting ready by bringing fewer things, so that has helped. The instructor Anna is really wonderful. We're in a baby/toddler group and she does a fantastic job. She explains everything and the parents are in there with the littles, although it is a little hard to hear at times because of the many groups at once. She is very patient when the babies aren't feeling it and has provided some good feedback to us. The lessons are 30 minutes long and it's a little pricey at more than $25 a lesson. You have to enroll in and pay for a whole semester at a time, which are 9-ish to 14-ish weeks. The groups are small (I think our group is 5 kids) and there seems to be some personal attention during the lesson, so that is a definite benefit. It's lots of cute songs and toys at that age to make it fun and engaging. Overall, my child enjoys his lessons and we are pleased with the quality of the instruction. I would definitely sign him up for another lesson if he is interested. Definitely recommend doing a tour or a preview lesson before signing up just so you know what you're in for.

The management and coaching is lacking and misleading. We have a daughter that has been in the same…read moreprogram for 6 quarters and were told after 5 quarters of the same program they would have an additional coach in the water with her to make sure she was progressing to the next level, which they never followed through with. We were also told by management that she would be progressing to the next level and then a different coach indicated the opposite. The management and coaching staff give misleading and false information to get your money and don't progress the students or teach them appropriately. They don't follow through with their commitments and then won't re-imburse you for giving false and misleading information.

Often the teacher handing our kids back to us didn't speak English, so we didn't have a great idea of how the kids were doing, how their days were, etc. And the communication through the app, when present, was often inaccurate. The teachers and staff seemed nice, but they missed stuff that happened under their care, and they would check the security footage only after we asked about scratches the kids came home with. Your kids would probably be safe there, but for how much they charge, you could do a lot better than Jardin.

As a parent, this really helped relieve some of the stinging of the sticker shock. They started taking teacher consistency, more seriously, and I think it is made a huge difference. No more cycling of teachers as much. It's a warm pool, warm locker room, and Good curriculum where your kid will make progress. There's lots of repeating of levels, but that's true at any swim school. To avoid that, you just need your kid to have tons of pool time outside of lessons. They have a few family open swim times a month but not a lot, you almost need a gym membership with pool access such as at the YMCA in addition to foss lessons if you want to avoid repeating lots of levels. It's still crazy expensive, but you get what you pay for. I have yet to find another swim place that can produce the results that Foss can.

They announce their courses (a slate of weekly sessions stretching over a couple of months) and they almost immediately fill up. It's like buying Superbowl tickets. I think the reason is that not many places have a curriculum of very organized, structured, swim teaching programs like Foss. The prices are reasonable, too. Our little guy was a bit scared the first class (groups of 4-5 kids plus 1 parent per kid), but we kept going and the teacher kept working with him and now he loves swim class and even dances around in the lobby when we get there. The facility is clean, well maintained, etc. and the people are super friendly. I highly recommend Foss for teaching your kids to swim.
