Performed a Kitchen remodel.
-threatened to sue us if we did…read morenot pay in full - we attempted to deduct money for damages he caused and parts of the project that were not completed. We were so distraught over the whole situation we caved just to be done with him. The final bill was $4000 over the quote, we were only told about $1000 extra for electrical at the beginning of the project. This did not include costs of materials I paid for separately (back splash - handles, etc all were part of the quote)
-did not hear from him for 8 days after giving him a deposit and he still had not met with the cabinet people. Poor communication throughout the project.
-poor work ethic did not show up when he said he would 95% of the time and did not complete projects as he said he would
-He did not complete our project in full even though we paid him in full - I have him on video stating he would finish
-damaged personal property and did not take responsibility
-damaged new SS kitchen sink and did not take responsibility
-complete lack of respect for us, our home, our cats
-Had to remove the two-piece ceiling in the storage room below the kitchen to access pipes and electrical - he did not tell us this and when that came down so did a bunch of dirt and debris, which he did not clean up, had he told us we could have taken half an hour to empty the room and avoided the mess and the damage to items stored in there.
-The ceiling in the storage room was never replaced properly, there was a joiner that went between the 2 pieces and it was never put back, so now there is a big gap in the ceiling.
-damaged new kitchen floor and thought it was a favor to us to fix it
-No work helper as he claimed at discussion and quoting of project, my husband had to help him unload cabinets and more than once to put up cabinets, unacceptable.
-there were chips on nearly every cabinet because again no helper to install
he complained he had to purchase special "tools" to help hold the cabinets in place because he was working alone.
-the chips were pointed out to him, and he covered them with some kind of compound that has come off as I've wiped them down using water with everyday cleaning.
-I asked twice about the size of our existing pantry and installation of a new one would it need to be 2 pieces; he kept saying no, it will be all one piece and it was, couldn't get it in the house!! Had to cut about 5 inches off the bottom, but said not to worry he would wedge it up to the ceiling and the base Moulding would cover the gap, that did not work, he ended up having it on the floor which left a 5" gap at the ceiling, he put a piece of wood in and then primed it, went to paint store to get white paint to match - it didn't! So now I have this with "strip around that cabinet.
-the 5" spacer he put between the kitchen wall and cabinet he left wide open at the bottom, being that wall and back wall are outside walls there is a huge draft that comes in made the kitchen a good 10 degrees colder than the rest of the house. That could have been sealed off.
-Damaged new quartz countertop by wiping with dirty sponge he used on backsplash install, resulted in the countertop company having to come out and "fix" it, we were instructed at installation, in his presence, specifically how to clean it. It didn't work and he was going to use a product they completely did NOT recommend to ever use, the gentleman who came out explained to ME why. Had we allowed him to clean them he would have made the problem worse. At this point he had developed an attitude with me and my husband had to step in. The last week and half he had such a bad attitude he no longer cared about doing quality work.
-He is not a skilled contractor, he's a Mr. fix-it and just because he says he can do something doesn't mean he can, he doesn't think through his multitude of suggestions!
-He is a loud person, he talks over you and convinces you HIS IDEAS are best
-He plays loud obnoxious music and because my husband works from home we had to ask more than once to turn it down or use earbuds.
-He would constantly leave the door open that exits the kitchen into the garage while the garage door is wide open too, it was August, the number of bees and flies that came in was ridiculous, and then had the audacity while we were out getting backsplash to turn our AC down to 65
-He did not clean up the messes he left in our kitchen AND garage, we explained that was our ingress and digress to the home, a total lack of respect.
-He took a new job before finishing ours resulting in an extra week of not being done, and we were not waiting on any materials or parts or anything.
-We will be hiring another company to come in and fix the problems he left us with.
-He has friends and family post recommendations for his "company" on Facebook group pages. He is a one man show who may be good at flooring and have enough basic knowledge to remodel his own home, but he is not a professional contractor you want to hire.
