Extremely easy booking experience and a great massage. On Saturday night, I got a muscle spasm in my neck that was so painful, I couldn't sleep. I immediately went on Yelp to book a massage, but for most places in the area, you had to call in to schedule an appointment. I found Empyrean and the online booking system was so easy! The new client price was very affordable, and after a few clicks, I booked a chair massage for Monday. I had never gotten a chair massage before, but it was exactly what I needed. I am VERY picky about who I pay to work on my body, and William Lawrence is one of the chosen few. Just be aware that this isn't a spa massage; this is bodywork, with the emphasis on the WORK. He will go in deep and won't rest until he's found something, and then will dig till it's gone. After I beat up my body with exercise, I've learned to schedule an appointment afterwards, which pretty much eliminates any soreness and leaves me floating out the door. Give him a try! I went to William this morning seeking comfort for my back and shoulder problems that had been flaring up in the past week so badly that I couldn't lift one of my arms, and that I was crying every day after work from the pain. THIS GUY IS AMAZING. I pretty much danced out of the office on a cloud! I have been to many different massage therapists, and while I usually have a relaxing time, they don't take my back pain seriously and I leave feeling just as bad as I did when I came in. William is the first person I've been to who I felt really listened to me and really cared about how my body was going to feel when I left his studio. He really got into the muscles--which was temporarily painful, but completely necessary--and made sure my problem areas got as much attention as they needed, to the point where he even went over my scheduled time for no extra fee. I fractured my elbow in September and have had to have surgery to restore range of motion in my elbow. It's still not 100% so I decided to try alternative therapies to get me closer to normal movement. William listened to me very carefully. Even the part where I told him I'm not a massage person. :) For my treatment I sat in a chair while he massaged, moved, received messages from and communed with my injured arm. He also treated the other arm and my shoulders (which are also stiff as a result of taking up so much of the slack.) It's not just the physical work from which I immediately saw results, I also understood for the first time that I was avoiding using my arm and that wasn't going to help it get better.. At the end of my appointment I went to open the door with my left arm which I hadn't done instinctively since before my accident. Woo. I was lucky to have found William. Until finding William, I had always thought that massages were a luxury for other people, or something that a spa/resort would try to sell you to make some money. But after an intense winter of muscle strains, slipping on ice, and pulling nearly every muscle in my body, I found William on Yelp and gave him a try. William is a fantastic masseur--his massages are the best and most professional I've ever had. He's very personable, has a great little studio, and always discusses specific issues and knots before each massage. I run, lift, and do Yoga regularly, all of which has aggravated a musculo-skeletal issue on the entire right side of my body; William has helped tremendously. His massages leave me feeling intensely relaxed! His fees are also extremely reasonable, compared to other pricey "massages" I've received at spas that aren't nearly as good, or those $10/10 minute joints where somebody drives their elbow into your back. William tailors each massage to whatever issue I'm having, and there's great communication. If you've been on the fence about bodywork, then William will definitely change your mind! read more

I have been getting body work from William monthly for almost 4 years (even though I moved to the suburbs several years ago). He is absolutely positively the BEST!!!! He finds stuff I didn't even know was bothering me and fixes it. I have two little kids and we have affectionately nicknamed one of the knots in my right shoulder after the baby. I don't want a blissful Calgon-take-me-away massage that sends me off into a dreamlike state while lying on the table. I want the painful deep tissue massage that lengthens my shortened muscles and gives me space to move and breathe more freely. After being disappointed time after time with spas that were running deals through Groupon, I shared this complaint with the owner of my yoga studio (Turbodog Yoga, which I also love) who then referred me to William. Best. Decision. I. Ever. Made. William is warm and welcoming (usually offering hot tea or water as he consults you on what's going on with your body), very intuitive (he will find stuff you didn't even KNOW you had going on in your body) and his prices are incredibly reasonable. read more

I'll put it out there in one sentence: William is the massage therapist I compare others to. And I'm a picky SOB when it comes to massage. I've been dabbling around, trying to find "my" MT for decades now. The person who is able to have a conversation with my body while I get out of the way and eavesdrop. That's William. He finds issues I didn't even know were issues, takes care of them, and does so in a graceful, powerful way that *just* *works*. Most massages wear off after a day or two. His last at least a week. I've found MTs ranging from good to excellent. But still, William is the one I go back to when I need to remember what a transcendent massage is about. 'Nuff said, as far as I'm concerned. It doesn't hurt that he practices everything he talks about, but doesn't preach at all. å Yes yes, good for people new to massage, etcetera. But for the real connoisseurs, the people who get enough massages to know the vocabulary: you can't be satisfied that you have found "your" MT until you've at least tried William. It may or may not be him in the end, but you have to try to be sure. read more

He makes you feel so relaxed and really identifies the places in your body that are causing pain and other structural problems. WOW. WOW. WOW. William is simply amazing. After reading the favorable reviews on here, I decided to give him a try and I'm so thankful I did. I have been to many, many massage therapists and he is BY FAR the BEST I have seen. He is genuinely nice, caring and extremely welcoming. I have had several surgeries so there was not just one painful spot on my body and somehow, after 90 minutes, he managed to make me feel better than I had felt in months. He did not rush anything and seriously has some magical hands and fingers.
