This is a quick update on my original review. I am still a client, which is huge. The staff of therapists at Aligned are still amazingly helpful and genuinely want to see their clients improve and live healthy lives. As an aside, having recently suffered a major medical setback that required extensive surgery, recovery and physical therapy, the staff at Aligned was there to help me pick up the pieces. After a few short weeks, I regained full mobility without severe pain and continue to get stronger every day. This review is specifically about Mikaela Rogers, one of their dietitians. I met with her twice, and it was a complete waste of my time. The TL;DR is that the information she provided was horribly misguided and showed her lack of knowledge in weight loss issues with someone who is in their 50s struggling to lose weight. During our first meeting, she spent a ridiculous amount of time reviewing a confusing chart when she could have bottom-lined it in a few minutes. That left only a short amount of time to discuss calorie/macro goals so we had to schedule a second apt. since we only had time to discuss breakfast. During the second apt, she sent me the zoom link after our starting time -- which is extremely frustrating since there were technical issues. I usually sign in a few minutes early when I have a link to work through any issues. I wanted to get straight to the calorie/macro information. She wasn't at all prepared for the meeting and asked if I was the wrong height and weight and then said, "oh, that's someone else" After giving her the correct weight and answering other questions, she gave me ridiculous numbers for maintenance and weight loss. I had an overall idea of how much I should be eating due to going to a weight loss spa and losing 35 lbs based on the plan they gave me. Michael Jamlang is FANTASTIC! I've been getting acupuncture treatments for 3+ years. It was hard finding the right acupuncturist who understands you and care about your concern. I tried acupuncture with Michael for the first in 2021 at the Aligned Modern Health in South Loop. I went in with a severe neck and shoulder tightness. I would get a headache every now and then. After just one treatment, my body felt like a load was lifted off. Since then, I have been coming to see Michael 2-3 times a week on a regular basis. He's an amazing at acupuncturist! I usually fall asleep right away while he puts needles on my back -- no pain at all! He's also wonderful at massages and cupping to unwind muscle knots and puts you back in alignment.  I have been very impressed with Michael and his bedside manner. He consistently makes sure that he understands your concern and talk you through treatments that are most suitable for you. Michael is personable, caring, methodical and professional. This place is a joke. I came here without checking any reviews, after I found them on my insurance in network provider list for acupuncture. It took 30 minutes to check in using their laptop and answering all questions imaginable . Then they made me pay $50 extra on top of my insurance $30 copay. That $50 exam included answering yet another computer questionnaire about my sleep pattens and shape of my stool. This was done by some gentleman acupuncturist who is not even working there but covering up for another doc. Since he was not their regular practitioner, he recommended some othe acupuncture specialist for my problem. I scheduled an appointment in a week with that acupuncturist, but when I came, a totally different woman was going to do my acupuncture. This was explained to me as "miscommunication". At this point I asked if I can just leave without owing them anything and the receptionist said it was fine. read more

I was so excited to explore other services that AMH has to offer after enjoying my experience with a chiropractor and acupuncturist at the Lincoln Park location. I've been struggling with some recent weight gain so thought I'd look into functional medicine. I decided on a couple of tests that the doctor recommended that totaled $1300. I went in for a blood test at the Lincoln Square location, with ample time before my next doctor's appointment, except I got a call a few days later, during which someone told me that the phlebotomist used expired tubes so I had to come back in. Okay, stuff happens...not great, and also why do they have expired medical supplies in their 'lab' - but I went in again, missing more work to take this $800 blood test. They assured me that the results would be in prior to my appointment with the doctor. They lied. They called me the day before my appointment and said the results weren't in. The only time that worked to reschedule with the doctor was at 7am on a Saturday. Normally, I try not to be awake at that time, and I definitely try not to after hosting a 10 person dinner party, but I guess I wouldn't expect them to give a sh*t about that. Anyway, I reluctantly re-schedule the appointment post the second blood draw. The day before my 7am doctor's appointment, cue email where they said "Unfortunately by some miscommunication and lack of attention to detail your Cyrex test was not collected or completed by the phlebotomist at Lincoln Square on 8/29/2019 when you came back in a second time, but they did complete the second half of the blood draw"... So far, only because I asked, they offered me a complimentary half hour massage, but at this point, I told them that their offering is insufficient, and I encouraged them to discuss amongst their team to come up with a more appropriate offering. I am surprised because prior to this experience, I would have gladly referred them to anyone in a heartbeat. Now, I'm not so sure. They're sucking the life out of me (literally, they've taken 24 vials of apparently tainted blood) and I'm not sure how much more I can take. Sigh. read more

A friend of mine recommended this location to me as I was searching for a functional medicine doctor. Although her doctor was out on maternity leave she mentioned that her experience here overall was great. I chose Glowiak - a new doctor- he was the only practitioner with availability. Although my first appointment was ok, but progressively, he became less and less professional. Also, he would show up very very late to appointments without acknowledgment. I booked an appointment at Aligned as I had heard good things. I saw that the Lincoln Square was located closest to my home and had great reviews. My shoulder pain has increased lately as I have been doing a lot of travel and work out at OTF 4-5x per week. I arrived 10 minutes early and was barely greeted by anyone, I filled out my paperwork and was ignored. When Massage Therapist finally greeted me she was not very conversational, almost hesitated to ask me questions - I had marked should pain and she said well you have 60 minutes what do you want. I expected her to share what she thought the best plan was for my 60 minutes. Regardless, having an open mind, I thought ok, maybe more preliminary questions once we get into the massage. Fast forward to the massage: She entered the room and just started going at my lower back, no explanation, no asking how the pressure felt, nothing. Also, they played a Spotify playlist that was not relaxing (it was a mix of 60s pop rock). I felt a lot of pain the entire time and about 40 minutes in finally said, lay off on the pressure. It's crazy to me how not one question was asked, ever. Then like clockwork at 60 minutes she says, ok you are done and left the room! Other therapeutic massages have worked with feet and arms but not today. Once I was back out in the main area, she again was not conversational, I had to pry out of her what her thoughts were and then she gave literally no recommendations. I also noted my shoulders still hurt and she said I am sorry. Ok? I honestly think this is the worst massage therapy experience I have had and for this service at Aligned on Lincoln Ave, I would not recommend. read more

Was a struggle for her to adjust me every week it was of course my fault I'm in a "horrible" condition I was scared she was going to cause more injury and I felt horrible after every visit so I'm seeing a new chiropractor and my pain is 70% gone after 2 visits. A few months back, I was experiencing pain and tingling sensations in my right hip/leg/foot, but was hesitant to reach out for help, as my past chiropractic experiences haven't been the best. I'm so happy I came across Aligned Modern Health and their Lincoln Square location- thanks, Internet! On day one, I was instantly greeted by Michelle when walking into Aligned and immediately felt so welcomed by her and the rest of the staff behind the front desk. I was taken to a room with Dr. Ahrens, where she assessed me in many different ways- moving me around and asking multiple questions about my discomfort, lifestyle habits, past injuries, current exercise routines, etc. After spending over an hour at Aligned, I felt Dr. Ahrens knew more about myself than I! From that point on, my experience only got better. I would visit the clinic once or twice a week, where Donnie, my Rehab Specialist, would spend his time with me, sculpting movement and exercise techniques specifically designed to my body, my injury, and my workout goals. His questions were intuitive, and his knowledge of the human body was extremely impressive. His balance of kindness and professionalism made me feel comfortable, and the ease of putting my trust in him was seamless. Additionally, my routines were not cookie-cutter sequences that you'd sometimes expect all patients are given in this situation. After my times with Donnie, I would work with Dr. Ahrens as she asked questions, gave great advice regarding my discomfort, adjusted me, and shared friendly conversation. My experience with Dr. Ahrens and Donnie was unlike no other; I did not feel like a patient, whatsoever, but more so like someone important and truly cared for. Dr. Ahrens and Donnie take their time and attend to your questions, concerns, and needs, whether that takes 20 minutes or over an hour. I called a day ago to get an explanation why my doctor apptmt & massage medical therapy apptmt ( I had a back to back 1/2 hour each apptmt scheduled )had been canceled by the company -a receptionist Had called me to tell me it had been canceled but no medical reason why. I asked nice and polite receptionist Michelle why no one had called me back & she put Dr Hefner (sounds like he may be a owner possibly and chiropractor ) on the phone to explain to me . Hefner was very rude to me & raised his voice to me and spoke to me in a verbally abusive manner. I told him I do not nor will ever stand for being spoken to like that and will not contribute to his business due to his erratic phone manner . I fully understood I had to always see a chiro on the same day I see a massage therapist & all my apptmts had been scheduled like that. Dr ahrens was the first apptmt & she also had treated me and then next apptmt I saw a diff chiro first as I was scheduled since dr ahrens was out of town and she just spoke With me during apptmt and then sent me to massage therapy . I was confused as I wanted chiro apptmt with that dr but she told me she was more comfortable to send me straight to the massage therapist after our talking in her office . Nobody at The office ever respected my time to call me & tell me that I wasn't going to be treated by the chiropractor otherwise I would have canceled as I sat on the floor and did foam rolling my own exercises wasting my time .The office never respected my time to call me & tell me that I wasn't going to be treated by the chiropractor Deever otherwise I would have canceled. I felt as if she knew she was not going to not treat me she should've respected my time & have office contact me. The last appointment a couple days before the apptmt they decided to call me and tell me they were going to cancel on me without explanation so I asked someone to call me back and tell me why and what was the medical reason they cancled on me as I am in severe pain. They never called back. I had a inkling that the reason they may have canceled was that I wrote a letter as I was concerned that I was Having a medical problem that I had never had before in a body part ( private )& wondering if it couldn't have been a side effect of the chiropractic treatment or Could it have been another reason something that I did on my own and that did the doctor have a trick up their sleeve that they could help me treat this problem? It was a nice and polite letter that I sent, then mysteriously I get a call that they canceled my appointment For a half hour chiropractic doc appointment with a half hour massage therapy appointment back to back as I have major pain syndromes and my muscles seize up if I don't have physical therapy or massage or chiro to treat me. In summary the medical motto***********, " DO NO HARM", dr Hefner the owner and chiro Needs to study up on the important medical term as he needs to learn that when he talks to a patient like me so rudely and in a aggressive manner That it did me a lot of harm in terms of I did not have high blood press/ pulse or anxiety level of panic attack before the phone call but after talking to him I did and he has zero bedside manner on the phone and I would never go back to the clinic considering this man is possibly in charge of it considering his rude personality . I normally have anxiety issues as nervous from pain so that was last thing I needed!!!!No apologies from him since his ego has stopped him. I can't imagine having to deal with that demeanor in person . Chiropractors are very difficult to find that have good Bedside manner at the same time as having amazing skills and I have seen them almost my whole adult life but in California. If anybody knows of a good one in Chicagoland who does not do the Thompson method Please let me know as I need more of a hands on touch therapy which I found easily in Cali and struggle to find here . I def do NOT recommend this clinic due to dr Hefner's rude behavior as management has a trickle down effect. read more

Going to Physical Therapy twice a week isn't something I'd classify as "fun," but I really do enjoy my visits. Dr. Gemelas is a life saver. After years, we are talking 7+ of trying to figure out what was wrong with me I finally landed here and within a month we not only had a diagnosis but a treatment plan. Over a year ago, I was going thru a phase where I thought I was a power-lifter. I ended up throwing out my back and could barely bend past a 45° angle. Upon first seeing Dr Ahrens, I was skeptical that this petite, elegant woman would be able to fix a lunk like me. I guess I should have done my research because Dr Ahrens is a beast! She snapped, cracked and popped me (in a good way) right back into place. A few weeks ago, I felt a twinge in my lower back - uncomfortable, but not terrible. Then I decided to work out. The next morning I could barely get out of my bed, and once I did, found walking to be such a challenge that I called into my office to say I had to work from home. I realized I had to do something about this pain as soon as possible and narrowed my options down to two choices: 1) Urgent Care, 2) Chiropractor. I was always suspect of Chiropractics, though I'm not entirely sure why, but I was also not too crazy about going to an Urgent Care facility and probably leaving with nothing more than a fistful of wonderful little pills that would make me feel better, but probably wouldn't actually fix anything. How does one solve such a quandary? Why, one checks their insurance benefits, of course! A visit to Urgent Care would result in a $100 copay, the Chiropractor would be a $30 copay. Looks like I'll be exploring the exciting world of chiropractics! I then went immediately to Yelp to find a chiropractor and the reviews made it clear the only real choice was Aligned Modern Health. I pulled up their site and sent an email requesting the soonest possible appointment. I was pleasantly surprised when I received an email back well before their office opened for the day offering up a couple of different appointment options (the email was great not only because it offered me hope for some relief, but also because they responded to my email via email - it's amazing how many places, in 2012, respond to email requests via phone -- if I wanted to talk, I'd have called you... curmudgeonly rant over). So when the time came, I hobbled on out to my car and headed down to Lincoln Square, filled with blinding pain and crippling optimism... or maybe it was the other way around? Anyway, I showed up and was greeted by the incredibly friendly and helpful Andrew, who, after I finished my requisite paperwork, gave me a tour of their attractive and welcoming facility (this seems like a good time to note that they have the best music of any doctor's office I have ever visited -- Andrew gave the credit to Pandora... so humble, they are). While the doctor finished with her current patient, I was able to take in this amazing bed-type thing that makes any massage chair you ever sat in at a Brookstone weep with envy, then had my lower back hooked up to some electric current and ice, which sounds mid evil (except the electric part), but was actually quite enjoyable. After this, I was introduced to Dr. Ford. I described the pain, explained that I had no idea what caused it, had my posture checked (actually quite good - thanks, grandma!), and snapped a few x-rays right there in the office. The doctor snap-crackle-and-popped me across the back and neck and then Andrew set me up for my next few appointments. What really struck me here is that Andrew took the time to explain that if what they're doing doesn't work after a few appointments, they'll send me somewhere else. He also addressed the idea that many people have of chiropractors just trying to bleed your insurance - he insists they don't practice such shenanigans and so far I have no reason to doubt that. I have since returned probably a half-dozen times, each time experiencing the same welcoming atmosphere and feel just about perfect now. Andrew and Dr. Ford are always friendly and eager to help. I've also been lucky enough to have prescribed deep-tissue massage every-other appointment or so with Teresa, who seems to know exactly how to keep the massage just shy of blindingly painful - I have never left that massage room without feeling better. Aligned is a great one-stop shop for your chiro needs - everything you need is on-site. I have a friend from High School who is now a Chiropractor in the St. Louis area and he certainly doesn't have access to all of this in his office - he has to send people all sorts of places for their therapeutic massages, or x-rays, or just about anything that isn't an exam or adjustment. I am so happy to recommend Aligned, in fact, that I dusted off my Yelp account after THREE YEARS of review dormancy. Aligned is in Lincoln Square! I have seen many chiropractors over the past 6 years. AMH is the most comprehensive facility I've experienced and my favorite by a landslide. The professionals are fun, fresh and on top of their game. ...So I'm a runner, and very active. This winter I was dealing with numbness and tingling down my left side. I couldn't do the things I loved and I was uncomfortable even when I was inactive. After working with Dr. Maloof I was able run, lift, bike, work and feel great! He gave me at-home stretches and exercises that would help strengthen my body and maintain wellness. When I showed him my weird spasm in my C4 area, he did a little detective work to figure out the cause. When I would show other chiros this, they just ignored it. So glad he is now at the Lincoln Square location, closer to my home! Yesterday I came in and Dr. Maloof introduced me to Dr. Ford. She is a runner herself, and specializes in Active Release. She performed some soft tissue work I have never experienced, and it certainly got the job done! Afterwards, she taught me the benefits of dynamic stretches versus static stretches. For all you who don't know what that means, GO SEE HER! I am in the exercise/running industry and would highly recommend her expertise. The atmosphere there is super friendly and welcoming. Brian will greet you at the door and deal with all things scheduling/billing/etc, which is a super easy in-and-out process. You know they care about wellness as a whole - nutrition, exercise, attitude, are all things they have a pulse on. I am used to chiropractors who do adjustments, then send you on your way, no questions asked. AMH takes the time to listen. And I can't wait to go back and get a deep tissue massage done by Teresa, their massage therapist after my half! read more

I had gone to the Aligned Modern Health on Southport about two years ago and had a chance recently to visit the newer location in Lincoln Square. The Lincoln Square office is fantastic - nothing like a traditional chiropractor's office. The staff is extremely welcoming and is proud to show off their office. I enjoyed an adjustment from Dr. Renee Zimmerman and a massage from Teresa. I don't know how Teresa packs that much deep tissue power into her tiny frame!! Massage and adjustment were awesome. Some background on why I chose to go to Aligned: I had been dealing with weird headaches and symptoms for months -- we're talking wet, warm (sometimes burning) sensations in my head, overall "head fog", numbness in both of my arms, trouble gripping things. I'm 27, relatively healthy and not someone who has had many headaches in the past so this was very sudden and completely out of the ordinary. After a particularly bad headache, I went into the E.R. because I was thinking the worst. They ruled out anything serious, chalked it up to migraines and sent me home with extra strength Ibuprofen. I never bought into the migraine theory. Given that I had some tension in my shoulder and the numbness in the arms, I eventually concluded it might be something like a pinched nerve and started looking into chiropractors who might be able to help. My initial exam showed that my neck was seriously out of whack, leaving my head floating too far forward; the bone structure around my eyes was somewhat out of place and contributing to my brain fogginess; and the tension in my neck was pinching nerves, resulting in the loss of feeling in my arms and the odd sensations in my head. Upon diagnosis, Dr. Ahrens & her team came up with a multi-faceted game plan to get me back on track. After two weeks of p.t. exercises, electrotherapy, and neck & spine adjustments (which will change your life!), my pain has decreased TREMENDOUSLY. (Basically, I went from having it 6-7 days a week to maybe a couple hours one night a week.) I was a bit of a hot mess when I walked into Aligned; I had been battling severe illness and immune system complications, but it was an ice pick headache (that turned into a full body migraine) which brought me to their door. I was seriously- and apologetically- in tears at the front desk, and the entire staff was SO KIND. Even though my insurance was being terrible, and even though they were booked ten ways 'til Tuesday, they made it happen for me. (Like, right then and there. Which pushed them to the front of the line of any health practitioner I've ever been to, ever.) The results? A) Immediate easing and relief of the migraine. (I do not say that lightly. Have you ever had a migraine keep you in its death grip? I cried again in gratitude as I left; I'm sure they thought I was a delicate li'l emotional flower.) B) I was taking painkillers all day and night when I first made an appointment. Three months later, maybe one pill A WEEK. C) I'm loyal to them for life. The entire team is skilled and magical. Dr. Ahrens does incredible work with mysterious symptoms and wonky bodies, Michelle is a joy to chat and schedule and work with, and Ryan has a gift of taping people so that they can go beyond walking functionally to legitimately thriving. I joke that his taping is my Linus blankie. (Okay, it's not really a joke; it's occasionally the only thing that gets me through the day. He also makes me laugh until I cry. This rarely affects the taping.) On the outside looking in: I was first impressed by the spine created out of apples that hung in their window in the fall. Then it was 2 dear friends' glowing recommendations. They offer *free* exercise classes on Saturdays (pilates and yoga). Finally, I reserved an amazing FB offer that included a chiropractic work-up with xrays and 30m massage for $60 (no insurance)!! Once in the door: I have high expectations and they were exceeded (not easy to do). The atmosphere is modern, sleek, and environmental. Everyone there is relationship-based, honest, and straightforward. I loved that many of my adjustments were in a chair vs laying down (this was a first). The practice utilizes the highest quality of equipment. I've been to 2 previous chiropractors in Chicago over the years and this practice is stellar. I felt so comfortable, so happy to be there. Aligned was recommended to me by a friend and it has been FANTASTIC! Everything from scheduling my first appointment, to the rehab, and the chiropractic work I've had done has been great! Everyone here is very friendly and helpful. They are constantly making sure that you are getting the best care possible. I do my rehab mainly with Desmond and he makes sure that I am working hard, helping make my body stronger to reduce/end the pains I have. I started treating here in January for low back pain and was experiencing incredible discomfort and pain. Between physical therapy and adjustments I started feeling relief quickly. The last few weeks I've added acupuncture with Kelley who is amazing!! She uses various techniques including cupping which is the best! I'm pain free and back to my regular routine. I went to Aligned Modern Health because I was experiencing some sciatica and was in severe pain. I purchased a Groupon for four visits, and Dr. Zimmerman and her staff exceeded my expectations! The pain I sought treatment for was nearly eliminated within those four visits! The only reason why I had to stop treatment is because I moved to Aurora. Dr. Zimmerman and her staff are amazing! They are very professional and courteous. She also taught me some stretches that have continued to help my back and hips. The staff is friendly and personable but respect your time, and are able to give you a treatment and get you out in a reasonable amount of time.
